Rating: Summary: One of my All-Time Favorite Books Review: How can you describe "The Unauthorized Autobiography of Lemony Snicket"? I know a lot of people don't like this book. I know they think it is dumb, boring, or just doesn't give them enough information about anything. Let me tell you something. This book is probably anything but that. First, read the Series of Unfortunate Events up to #8 (Which is what I'm up to, I hope to get 9 soon!). If you don't read any of them, or even just skip one, YOU WILL NOT UNDERSTAND THIS BOOK. Second, read this book as many times as you need to, and don't skip anything! Even read the index! I have so far read this book 3 times, and still want to read it again. Every time I find more and more interesting things- such as Daniel Handler is shown in the book! Who is Daniel Handler? He's "Lemony Snicket's Representative". Even though Lemony Snicket is fictional, the best thing to do while reading this book is to pretend he's real. If you don't, you may find yourself getting disinterested. I was somewhat disappointed the first time that I didn't find anything out about who Beatrice is (ahh! stupid page 211!) but after looking through it again, I learned a lot! Hint: Mozart's Fourteenth Symphony. I myself can only hum Ode To Joy, Beethoven's 9th Symphony...but anyway, back to the book!! If you buy this, I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope I won't offend anyone with this, but you have to have a "logical" mind that can pierce things together. If you don't, don't bother reading this book- you'll be lost completely. I hope I've helped you decide whether or not to read this book! I enjoyed it a lot. I wish I could join VFD! And what is VFD, anyway? A Very Funky Disco! Wait... A Vascular Funnel Digest! Wait....Oh, well, I don't know what VFD is...well, actually I don't know what the initials are! I just know what it is, a few places it used to be, and how to join it...If you excuse me now, I think I just heard a page turning outside...
Rating: Summary: A look into the (fictional) world of Lemony Snicket Review: As many of you probably know, this book is fiction. It focuses on the Series of Unfortunate Events, and gives you some insider information. Made up of letters, diary entries, photographs, clippings, and more, this book features hints to answers concerned with the Baudelaires, like "Where are the Quagmire triplets now?", or "Why is there a secret passage between the Baudelaire mansion and 667 Dark Avenue?", and "What is VFD?" You won't get complete answers to these questions, but if you read carefully, you'll discover that all of the strange features of this book are pieces of a puzzle that is waiting for the reader to solve it. In addition, this book had tons of humor, as do all of Lemony Snicket's books, and, if you've read the series, you'll hear about and see a lot of familiar characters, places, and names. Read and re-read this book after you finish each book in the series- it will help you have a clear picture of all the secrets concerned with A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Rating: Summary: something else to spend money on Review: This is a somewhat amusing if not at often time confusing side note to the series of unfortunate events. While not completely needed to understand the series it does serve to somewhat flesh out some of the bad characters and tell you some more history of the author. What's aggravating is that this does not explain anything really and just leaves you with more questions. Good for the must have everything person everyone else avoid or pickup the paperback.
Rating: Summary: Lemony Snicket: A Man of Mystery Review: I would first like to start my review by telling you that the review you are about to read on your computer, no doubt, is about an author whose books are about three orphans, who encounter a diastrous fire, S.O.R.E., a tattoo of a haunting eye, parsley soda, the secret of V.F.D, and many other depressing events that a nice person like you wouldn't enjoy reading about. So if you don't enjoy authors who write about this, then you might enjoy an Autobiography about the author that writes about three happy children who ride ponies and eat cupcakes. Plus, if you haven't read the books 1-9 in the series, then you should stop reading this right now and read the review about The Bad Beginning, or The Happy Children Who Ride Ponies and Eat Cupcakes. This book is more or less about Lemony Snicket, who undoubtedly exposes the tale of the Baudelaires to the public. If you take a look inside the book, you will not find all the answers you may need to your questions; such as: who are the Quaqamire triplets? or who is Beatrice? They do have full pictures of Lemony Snicket included in the book. Although the majority doesn't show his face. Snicket fans sould be thankful that he has so graciously exposed what he calls his life to the public. It is his job to expose the events of the Baudelaires' lives to the public, not his.
Rating: Summary: Very cleverly done!! Review: This book HAD to be great fun to write, because it was great fun to read. The book itself is actually physically heavy -- did they use lead ink? It's very confusing. It's funny, but not as funny as I expected, having read some of the Series of Unfortunate Events books. The old pictures are hilarious, though -- where did he ever find them? As I looked back through the book I realized that LEMONY SNICKET: THE UNAUTHORIZED AUTOBIOGRAPHY is a book you can read over and over to try to solve the "clues." Big on detail, short on understandable explanation. Even the index is in the hilarious circular dead-end style. The presentation is extremely clever: The book comes with three covers! The reversible dust jacket is a real hoot. The artwork of the entire book is very inventive. The book turns into a newspaper, a scrapbook, a transcript, etc. If you liked the series, do read this book. You'll be confused, fascinated, worried, perplexed, and amused.
Rating: Summary: Funniest Book-And Most Confusing-EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This, is truely a Unfortunte Events book, not only because of the author is the same but the style it is writen in. The notes to the editor, the funnness of it all... And the more you read these books the more queston's you get! I would recomend this book to anyone who has not read it.
Rating: Summary: Truly Lemony Snicket Review: If readers want to find out who Lemony Snicket is and what is his connection with Baudelaire orphans, this is not the book for you! In true Lemony Snicket style, The Unauthorized Biography will leave more questions than answers. In the same writing style, Lemony Snicket elicits laughter, provides sarcasm, and showcases his wits in the particularly amusing biography. Scratched photographs, absurd lyrics and odd pages of newspapers will leave Lemony Snicket fans with marvel, wondering what genius lies behind the Lemony Snicket facade. The Unauthorized Biography will not answer important questions such as who is Beatrice and why the interest in the Baudelaire orphans. Nevertheless, The Unauthorized Biography is a must-have for avid fans of Lemony Snicket and A Series of Unfortunate Events. Hail to the genius that is Lemony Snicket!
Rating: Summary: Lemony Snicket: A Mysterious Man Revealed Review: This was an exellent book! I have read thouroghly all of the Series of Unfortunate Events. Just do not read this until you have read at least 8 or 9 of the other books. Anyway, this book is a humorous description of the fictional character of Lemony Snicket. The real author, Daniel Handler, did a good job. The book is a collection of letters and photographs, but no actual account of Snicket's life. This makes for a lot of humor because the letters give a lot of background on events in the series. I would reccomend this book to any fan of the Series of Unfortunate Events.
Rating: Summary: Law & Order meets Monty Python Review: I had lots of fun and lots of laughs reading this book (and was drawn into the mystery of it)....and I am WAY over the "recommended reading age." I haven't read any other of the Lemony Snicket books, but I think this book can stand on its own, although I'm sure if I'd known the backstory on the Baudelaire children I would have enjoyed it even more. There is so much creative detail put into the bits of information, and so much subtle humor injected into it that you definitely have to pay attention! I would almost recommend checking it out from the library since once you read it, it's not a surprise anymore, but then the good people at Amazon would be out of a job.
Rating: Summary: An informative additon to the mysterious series! Review: Although the book is rather disappointing in the sense that the questions displayed at the front of the book are never addressed, this hillarious, suspenseful, and mysterious book is an interesting addition to your SOUE collection. This book is made up of letters, brochures, sheet music, photographs, newspaper clippings, etcetera. As I mentioned, the questions that would be most helpful are never answered, but you learn many other interesting things in the book, such as how Lemony came into V.F.D, why Esme married Jerome if she truly loved Olaf, and why Beatrice Baudelaire needed to know how to whistle Mozart's fourteenth symphony with crackers in her mouth. With all due to respect, Ooga
