Summary: A Sweet, Funny Book
Review: Your heart will go out to Bud, the main character of this book. He is an orphan looking for his father, who he suspects is Herman E. Calloway, a famous band leader. He meets some unforgettable characters along the way. The setting of Flint, Michigan during the Great Depression is described very well. The author also touches on some aspects of racism during that time. The narrator, James Avery, does a fantastic job. A great book for kids and adults alike.

Summary: Humorous and Heart-Warming
Review: Bud, Not Buddy, written by Christopher Paul Curtis, is set in Flint, Michigan during the Great Depression. The main character is a 10 year old orphan boy named Bud Caldwell. This book, in a very humorous and heart-warming way, relates the misfortunes and adventures of Bud as he runs away from a foster home where he was abused. Bud, who thinks that the famous Blues player Herman E. Calloway is his real father, sets out on a journey to find a permanent home. Along the way, Bud gets into all kinds of trouble, but he never gives up on trying to find Calloway. Eventually he does find Calloway, but both he and Bud are not prepared for what they both learn at the end of this book. This book is very humorous and light-hearted at times, but it also reveals many important lessons about life, love, and family that all young readers need to learn.

My favorite part of the book personally was when Bud said Herman E. Calloway was his daddy and Herman got mad.
