Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: I liked the book called Bud, Not Buddy. It was the best book I have ever read. Christopher Paul Curtis is a very good writer, and I can't wait to read The Watsons Go to Burmingham.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT BOOK! Review: Bud, Not Buddy is a great book that tells a lot about life during the Depression and the story of Bud Caldwell, an orphan searching for his father. He sets off to find Herman E. Calloway, whom he thinks is his father from some mysterious clues his mother left behind before she died. It is a page turner with suspense and a suprising ending. A must read!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful story about a young boy's search for identity Review: My husband and I read this book aloud to our 7 and 8 year old children. We found it poignant and funny in many places. Our children quickly became attached to the adventures of "Bud" and the determination that he demonstrated to find his family roots. This book offers wonderful lessons in the importance of family connections and the value of belonging and being special to someone. Kudos to Christopher Paul Curtis on his second novel which brings alive the spirit of determination and the realities of the African American way of life in the early 20th century. A great historical fiction account of the Great Depression and its effects on a little boy.
Rating: Summary: Don't miss this book Review: This book really brings the time of the Great Depression to life through the eyes of 10 year old Bud, NOT Buddy. The story was suspenseful because of his quest to find his father and the adventures he has along the way. I particularly enjoyed the part ...[with] the band members...You could almost hear the jazz music playing in the background.
Rating: Summary: A great book! Review: I have read this aloud to my fifth grade class; they LOVED it! Through this book we have studied the Great Depression, Jazz music, and the experiences of a young orphan. My students loved the story, as well as Bud's "rules." Some of the kids have even gone to their local library or book store to pick up their own copy of this book.
Rating: Summary: Adventure and Boys Review: I am very family oriented and this book touched me greatly in the end. This book allows children to see the suffering that some people go through. I suggest reading this to students. As a fourth grade teacher I can see this inspiring young children, especially boys, to write adventurous stories.
Rating: Summary: Bud, not Buddy Rules Review: It's 1936, in Flint, Michigan. Things aren't so good for ten-year-old Bud. Along with his suitcase he's looking for his dad. The famous Herman E Calloway(the Band Leader)may be his dad. Bud decided because his mom is dead to find he. I hope he does!
Rating: Summary: Depression Time Review: I remembered my deceased father while reading this book. Bothmy father and Bud were abandoned children who ran away from theirterrible, second home. My father told us how he rode in box cars, atewith tramps, and went without food for days at a time. Every child should read this book to know what true suffering is all about.
Rating: Summary: Bud, Not Buddy Review: Great Book. Enjoyed every minute of reading it. I just couldn't put the book down. It was a touchy ending when Bud finds his grandfather and some instrument playing friends. Read the book!
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I am nearing the end of this book and I cannot put it down! There is excitement and intrigue at every turn of the page. Nice to have book about your hometown and reference to the state of Michigan.
