Rating: Summary: Bud,Not Buddy Review: I read a perfect book. It is a boy named Bud who is an orphan. His mom died 4 years previously. Bud lived in 1936 Flint,Michigan. When he is living at the orphanige he gets adopted to an evil family. He gets locked in a shed but runs away. He runs away to find his father. While he is on his journey he meets his friend Bugs, who also got adopted and ran away. They go through an adventure but it gets to a point where Bud is left behind, so Bud begins his own journey searching for his father. I like how the book starts because the author explains Bud's feelings when he is in the shed. For example, Bud is feeling very mad and angry of how they are treating him. Also, i like how the book ends and so will you. The message in the book is you can't asume something. When Bud asumes that he found his father they are not really sure. If you read about the adventures and suprises I am sure you would give this 5 stars like i did.
Rating: Summary: Bud Not Buddy, will be your buddy! Review: Bud Not Buddy is a great book especially if you have ever wondered where you belong. This book is about a boy who is trying to find his father after his mother dies. His mother passed away and he was sent to a foster home from where he made an escape into the real world. He met and had a vast of friends. He always carried around a suitcase of the things he thought were most important to him which were some rocks, fliars, and a picture of his mother. The fliars were important to him because he thought the man that was pictured on the fliars was his father. Whebn he finally got to the man on the fliar he realised that this man was indeed part of his family. You'll have to read the rest of the book to find out who he really was. This book was great! I recomend it to young and old. I recomend it to young people because it has great humor and it shows the value of friends and family. I recomend it to older people becuase it was set back durring the Great Depression. Some people remember what it was like but they were probably trying to get jobs, they didn't know what it was like through a childs eyes. Bud Not Buddy is definately a book I recomend to read one, twice, or even three times!
Rating: Summary: Bud, Not Buddy Review: Bud, Not Buddy is set during the Great Depression. Buddy is a 10-year-old boy living in a foster home due to his mother's death and not knowing his father's identity. His mother died when Bud was only 6 years old. His mother kept flyers of blues bands which resulted in Bud believing one of the band members was his father. While in his last foster home he had a terrible experience and was made to sleep in the family's woodshed. He escapes from this foster home to set out and find his father. With help along his way he was able to get a start on his journey. Bud found Bugs, who he had known from the orphanage. They were going to set out for Chicago but got separated. The challenges that were in Bud's way did not slow him down but made him more determined. When he reaches his destination he finds a place he can finally call home, although it may not be exactly what he expected. This book is a good example of a young child's strong will and determination. Bud is a true example of the desire that children have to belong to someone and their need to feel love. Bud also demonstrates the ability to cope with stressful situations which all children need to develop. In my opinion Bud, Not Buddy is a healthy and somewhat humorous display of this unique ability which could be beneficial to all young readers.

Rating: Summary: Bud, Not Buddy - Andy, October 7, 2002 Review: If you are looking for an exciting and fun book this is perfect. I never was much of a reader, and books of this length would usually take me a few days to read. Well let me tell you something, I read the book in one day! It was so good I couldn't put it down. Bud is a foster child who is in search of his real parents, or maybe he is just searching for somewhere he can call home. He has a flyer of a jazz musician he believes is his father and that motivates him to go on an exciting journey on his own. The ending is unpredictable just like the whole book. The writing is so good that a perfect picture of what is going on is in your head through out the whole book. The characters and time period are depicted perfectly. It feels like you are watching a movie following Bud everywhere he goes. This book could be great for a classroom studying history and how people lived in the time period. The book is great for young children around the age of eleven, but was so good even adults would love to read it.

Bud's mother died and he has never met his father. The only belongings he has is a suitcase filled with a few personal items. He is convinced that he will find his father, Herman E. Calloway. This is a story of Bud learning and experiencing life, while searching for his long lost father. This was a great book. I enjoyed reading every minute of it. The beginning of the book really draws the reader in. It has a major question, which motivates the reader to keep reading. It is easy to understand because there is a constant flow of language through out the book. This book was also very realistic which made the story more believable. This book would be great to use in the classroom. One topic that comes from this book is the great depression. This story discusses hoovervilles and different socio-economic classes. It also deals with race issues during this time period. This book focuses on the different types of families and how peopele treated each other in time of need.
Rating: Summary: Read. Learn. Enjoy Review: This book was truly one of the best books that I have ever read. Even if you absolutly HATE to read you'll be able to enjoy it. The way that it's written makes you feel as if your watching a movie or something. That's why I highly recomend this book to anyone. Here's an excerpt from the first page: "Here we go again. We were all standing in line waiting for breakfast when one of the case-workers came in and tap tap tapped down the line.Uh-oh this meant bad news, either they'd found a foster home or somebody was about to get paddeled. All the kids watched the woman as she moved along the line, her high-heeled shoes sounded like fire crackers going off on the wooden floor. Shoot! she stopped at me and said, "Are you Buddy Caldwell?" Pretty exciting huh- and the whole entire book is full of it!
Rating: Summary: Bud, Not Buddy Review: In 1936, during the depression, 10-year-old orphan Bud Caldwell has set out to do an amazing feat, find his father. His mother never told him his father's name, but she left him a few clues. With his suitcase full of special things, and his rules for life, Bud is determined to find this mystery man. This book is easy for readers to relate to, and Bud is depicted as a real child, facing real problems. After finding out Bud is searching for his father, the reader is drawn in and searching along with him. The reader is able to sympathize with Bud and understand what he is thinking, feeling and planning. The author also does an excellent job capturing the lingo of 1930's Flint, Michigan, and this gives the reader an authentic depiction of the times. I would recommend this book to all students. The ideas intertwined with the story have mature themes, but younger students can appreciate its adventurous nature. Students who like reading and relating to children their own age, childhood adventures, or would like to know more about homelessness or the depression will enjoy this book. The universal themes in this story make it an excellent literature selection for people of all ages and backgrounds.
