Rating: Summary: Walk Two Moons- A Gr-8 book! Review: I think that the book Walk Two Moons is the kind of book that makes you look inside your heart, like Sal did when she told Phoebe's story. If you haven't read the book yet, I strongly recomend it.
Rating: Summary: Good book depending on what you want to get out of it Review: This book, right from the get go, is serious. If you're looking for fun reading, you might want to look elsewhere. The main character is somewhat depressed and in bad straights. Don't pick this up if you're looking for light reading, but if you're interested in a book that actually has a somewhat meaningful, if heavy plot then go right ahead
Rating: Summary: Quite A Book Review: Sharon Creech is a great author, but she really out did herself here. Salamanca Tree Hiddle, more commonly known as Sal is on a long car trip with her grandparents. She is on the car trip to visit her mother who is "resting peacefully" in Lewiston, Idaho. When her grandparents ask her to tell a story, Sal tells the story of Phoebe and the strange events that took place.Sal and her dad have just moved into a small house in a cramped town. Sal's mom has left the two in order to think about things. Sal and her dad miss her so much. Sal meets Phoebe Winterbottom who is in her class at school. The next door neighbor to Sal's new home is a friend of Sal's dad. Her name is Mrs. Cadaver. The woman was one of the main reasons for Sal's dad to move. Sal doesn't like her too much, but her dad spends evenings with her and the two go out together. Phoebe is a strange person, who is scared of strangers and thinks her parents are the happiest people alive. She always defends her parents in front of anyone including Sal. Sal and Phoebe soon become very good friends. Sal finds Phoebe's mom always trying to please her children and her husband, but they never notice or seem to care. One day, a strange man appears at the home of the Winterbottom's. He is very nervous when Phoebe's mom isn't home and goes away. Strange messages start appearing at the Winterbottom's home. One of them reads Don't judge a man until you have walked two moons in his moccasins. Soon Phoebe's mom disappears and Phoebe is going nuts. Phoebe's dad thinks his wife has just gone away for a few days, and tells Phoebe not to think about it. of course, Phoebe does. She even goes so far as to look for clues and call the police. Sal is surrounded by many strange things like having hillbillies for grandparents and having a best friend who is very strange. Sal learns many things, and by the end she has changed. It is great the way Sharon Creech leaves clues along the way that Sal's mom is dead. Of course, she is resting peacefully. Mrs. Cadaver is a friend of Sal's mom, and Sal's dad talks to her because he sees his wife in her. A very sad book in some cases, with a message saying you have to live with what you have. Mrs. Cadaver's mother-in-law was sending the strange notes, because she was bored. The notes taught Sal a lot. Phoebe's mom went away to spend time with her son who was the strange young man. Yes, this is a true classic. One of my all time favorite novels!
Rating: Summary: Good Book!!!!! Review: Walk Two Moons is a very good book. I read it a week ago. The reason I picked up this book is because it has an odd title. Thirteen-year-old Salamanca Tree Hiddles' mother disappeared a few years ago. Sals' dad goes looking for her mom and comes back. He starts acting weird. A few years later Sal goes looking for her mom. I am a lot like her-not that my mother disappeared or anything, but, I am almost as old as her and I can feel all of her emotions. If you are interested in young people going on big adventures, then read this book.
Rating: Summary: Disturbing, but worth reading if your child is mature enough Review: This wonderful book outshines Creech's later work. The book has many disturbing elements -- a missing parent who turns out to be dead, for example (to give away the plot) -- but it's tastefully and beautifully written. I can't recommend it highly enough, just as I can't recommend strongly enough that your child be emotionally ready to read the material.
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK EVER!!!! Review: A must read for kids 9-16, advanced readers especially. About death and love, loss and caring, destiny and faith, and lots of sadness. If you get nightmares easily, this is not a great book for you. But an amazing book. A must-read.
Rating: Summary: Weird, but some how interesting Review: Okay, if you are looking for one of those drop dead books...dont read this. No offense to Sharon Creech, becuase I love her books like the Wanderer, but this book was weird. The character in the book never showed much emotion and I think it was a bit boring. not only that but confusing. The lunatic person was just weird becuase the book never said nothing much about her after they found out who it was. Maybe i'm being negative but i wouldn't want to recomend it if I didn't like it that much.
Rating: Summary: i love this book Review: I really truly love this book. Everyone i have talked to loves it, and I have read it multiple times. Its about a girl named Salmanca Tree Hiddle, and with a name like that, you know she has to be strange. Or at least thats what you would think. Shes just lost her mother(she isnt missing as some others say) as in her moms just died, and for the first time shes goin to see her grave. the long trip from ohio to idaho is consumed by telling Grams and Gramps the story of her friend, Phoebe, while at the same time Sal is coming to find herself also. I would recommend this book to the world. its more or a girl book though, with a easy reading level, but a lot of words.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: In Sharon Creech's "Walk Two Moons", the main character Salamanca Hiddle is truly unique. She travels across the country with her grandparents, to visit the Badlands, an Indian reserve, and even find out where her mother is. Salamanca tells her ornery grandparents stories of moving away from the family farm in Kentucky, her dad's new friend (who is a girl), school, and her weird neighbors, and her friend who supposedly has the "perfect" family. Along the way, Salamanca (Sal) faces many challenges, and finds out where her mother is. The ending to this book is great, and you truly love every character that there is.
Rating: Summary: Sentimental journey Review: This is a beautifully narrated journey to find closure after a young girl's mother leaves her. Unique and quirky characters contribute to the reader's enjoyment. The writing style is simple description, so all readers will have no difficulty reading chapter after chapter at one sitting. This is the perfect book to spark a discussion about loss.
