Summary: 15 Years Latter
Review: I read this book as a sophomore in High School and didn't think too much of it. But 15 years latter the book name still pops up in references all over so I decided to give it another read. Well it is defiently worth the reread if your in the same boat. So much of the book makes a lot more sense today and I see it's words in action today better than I did back then. The greatest thing I find about the book is it's simplicity in story and words showing the shallowness of people and life yet it still brings out the bright spots out there that make it all worth while when you look deep down.

Summary: Ok, but disapointing for all the build up.
Review: I read this book as an assingment for school but considering what I had previously heard about this book I was somewhat disapointed. But the book does have its momments, so I suggest you read it, but this book is not quite as good as I had expected.

Summary: I did not much enjoy the rough edges of this book.
Review: I read this book as chosen summer reading for my freshman year. I was quite offended by the extreme use of vulgarity and the numerous references to sexual situations. I found this book morally disturbing that this 16 year old is on the verge of a mental breakdown and nobody seems to notice or care.

Summary: Entertaining and Thought Engrossing
Review: I read this book as I child and thought it was funny and "cool." Reading it again as an adult, I caught the greater meaning behind Salinger's words. Although I didn't identify with Holden completely, I did find that there's a little of Holden in each of us.

Summary: Cather and the Rye
Review: I read this book as part as my work for school. You would think a teacher might have to tell her students to read the book, but our class read in the middle os a lesson and she would tell them to put it down. She couldn't believe what she was saying. My class took this book apart, we looked at symbolism and why Holden acted that way. We read this book because it went with are theme. Are born evil or we made evil? J.D. Salinger answered that question. Holden was a product of his enviroment. This was an excellent book. I would recommend this book for anyone.

Summary: This is the best book....
Review: I read this book back in high school when i was 16, english was my second languege then, and i wasn't able to understand some of the vocabulary, but by the time i finish the book, i was like, WOW this is the best book i ever read(and yet i only read about 4 book before "The Catcher In The Rye") and it STILL the BEST book i ever read today, i'm now 22, i had read hundreds of book now, but Salinger and really catch my heart with this book. I recommend this book to any body, especially teenagers, if u want to know why i love this book so much, you just have to read it in order to understand.

Summary: Rare Dissapointment
Review: I read this book because I had heard good things about it.However, it turned out to be one of the rare books that I just can't find anything good to say about it. In most books there is always something I take away from it, a characte, the plot, the style, something. In this book I hated the main character and his constant statements of: "really I'm not kidding" or something to that effect. There was seemingly no plot and i wasn't impressed with salinger's style. It is honestly the only book i have ever hated and would never want to read again and ive read a lot of books, i'm not easy to dissapoint. However, i believe this is one of the most highly overrated works in American literature, especially if you find the characters as obnoxious as I did.

Summary: A story of a few days in the life of a disturbed teenager.
Review: I read this book because I had heard so much about it. To me, it didn't live up to all that I have heard but I did think it was a good read. The thing that bugged me about it was his constant use of the word goddamn because it got old after the first two paragraphs. I kept waiting for something to happen or for the plot to develop but it never did. At least the end was satisfying. It is just the kind of book you need to look deeper into.

Summary: have read better
Review: I read this book because I had to. But I heard from it before. Last year, at an other school, we read the beginning of the book and we watched a video in which several women told about J.D.Salinger's life. That was pretty interesting. But it was this year the same as last year, I didn't really like the book that much. I found the language difficult to read, it is probably spoken language, because he says all the time "...and all". The story however is good. It's about a 16-year old boy, Holden Cauldfield, who gets kicked out of school. He wants to leave school but doesn't want to go directly to his parents. He's afraid os their reaction, especially his mother's, who would probably freak out. All the things that happen between him leaving school and returning home are also likely to happen in real life. But I kind of hated the main character. I don't like the jargon he uses and he's always saying the same kind of things, like "really I'm not kidding", I can't stand that. However, it is possible that people recognise themselves in Holden, he is looking for himself, he's not sure who he is, and he may have things in common with some teenagers, but not with me. He is always depressed and I really don't like to read depressing books.

Summary: Boring, pointless, and stupid!
Review: I read this book because I heard it was terific and a classic, I love classics. But I hated it! It was extremely boring and there was no point to it. I just can't understand all the people who loved this book!
