Rating: Summary: This book was incredible! Review: I loved this book. It had my 100% attention from start to finish. Holden was an awesome character that I would love to know in actual life. His interaction w/ his sister, and the love he had for his brother catpured my heart. I wish that all people could be as honest and forward about their feelings as Holden was. My advice would definately be to give this book a chance.
Rating: Summary: a humorous book that goes deep Review: I loved this book. It is probably my favorite behind The Berstien Bears and too much T.V. It was funny, full of meaningless thoughts, and going nowhere with fun. Just like my life.
Rating: Summary: the damn phonies keep banning this book Review: I loved this book. It not only gave an in depth look at society and the stuggles of adolecnets, but a humoorous look and what it is like to be a young adult. I laughed out loud many times thoughtout the novel. I love Holden's hypocritical veiw of phonies. It shows a side of all of us we do not like to admit to. I think the government should devote time to more important things than denying people the joy of this book.
Rating: Summary: If you think your life is bad... Review: i loved this book. It was very easy to read and understand. Being a teenager, i can feel for what Holden is going through and can relate to it. I think every one should read it.
Rating: Summary: Holden C. - One of the best heros in contemporary fiction Review: I loved this novel from the very beginning. Salinger's narrative is engaging and warm and makes one feel intimately familiar with Holden Caulfield on page one. This is a 'can't-put-down' book. I mourned its ending and was compelled to read it all over again. Salinger is a masterful writer and has created one of the most endearing and human characters in American fiction.
Rating: Summary: Classic? No. Good? Not really. Review: I may have missed the point. I am sure that many previous reviewers would find it convenient to attribute this to my age (17) and the fact that this book was required reading. However, I have to wonder something. Is it possible that people are reading WAY too much into this story? I find it more than likely. It's been my experience that if you put something in front of someone and say that it's a classic and has a very deep, significant meaning, they will find one no matter what. In short, I think the novel is dull and poorly written. Those of you who found some grand significance, I applaud you but feel perhaps rather than of finding a revelation in the book, you've found one in yourself.
Rating: Summary: Heard this before??? ONE OF THE BEST EVER! Review: I mean it! I really do! I know this book has little action, no intrigue, no super covert symbolism, believe me I know this. But it is still one of the, uh, lets say, Top 3 books I have ever read! I loved it!!!Lets take a look at our Protagonist, Holden Caufield. This book is entirely his narration of one weekend after he gets kicked out of private school. He decides to run away for a few days into NYC. There he runs into old friends, prostitutes, pimps, nuns, and a bunch of other classic characters. But it is not these people that draw your interest. It is Holdens thoughts and feelings towards each of them that makes this story a classic. His thoughts are sometimes dreary, sometimes off-the-wall, and sometimes HILARIOUS, and all the time fascinating! I gotta admit that even though Holden was supposedly losing his mind, I would be willing to bet each one of us can relate to the thoughts he has. I found myself, many times, agreeing with his take on things, despite the fact that critics and psychologists declare his take bordered on the insane...I say right on Holden! That is what makes this a classic...the fact that despite his problems we can all relate!
Rating: Summary: A Worthy Read Review: I missed out reading this book in High School and have been catching up especially since schools are banning this book. This book is very conservative compared to what I can see on network TV. Yes it has mature content but is a excellent work and an easy read. When asked what it was about I replied - "Life".
Rating: Summary: Good, but overrated. Review: I must admit that this book was very disappointing because I expected a masterpiece and found simply a good book. I agree with the teen reviewers (no, I'm not one) who wrote that those who extol this book seem to have forgotten what it felt like to be a teenager. Incidentally, why was the main character so angry? After all, he was a rich, spoiled brat who had led an opulent life. Because he wasn't as intelligent and talented as his siblings? Oh, come on, what a whiner.
Rating: Summary: Most Captivating Piece of Literature Ever Written Review: I must have read and re-read this book 10 times, and each time I read it again it just gets better. What is more amazing is that the experience you gain from the book changes with age. I first read it as a freshman in high school, and now, being a sophomore in college, I pick up more things and interpret them differently than before. Important to understand while reading the book is that Salinger did NOT write it to describe today's "rebellious" youth. He was writing in a much different time, so many of his stereotypes don't apply to today. What hasn't chagned is the deeper meaning of the book.
