Summary: A Must Read
Review: Catcher in the Rye is about a troubled teen by the name of Holden Caulfield. At the beginning of the book, Holden is thrown out of his highly prestigious prep school. In fact, this the 4th school that he has been expelled from. Holden is very connected to his sister and sympathizes about his dead brother a lot in the book. I am also very connected to my sibling just like him. Throughout the book Holden refers to people as being "phony". I can relate to this greatly because nothing bothers me more than people expressing themselves differently than their true selves. Holden's struggles during the book were interesting to follow because at times they would remind me of my past. I specifically liked the ending because the author does not leave a definite ending. He allows the reader to create and ending in their own mind that would fit the way that they perceived the book.
J.D. Salinger does a magnificent job of creating a character that can relate to so many young people. He takes the reader on a 48 hour journey of Holden's life, and it makes you never want to never put the book down. I would suggest all teenagers to read this book. In fact, I would strongly recommend this book to be a must read in high school's across the country due to its extraordinary portrayal of a troubled teen in society. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Mrs. Spehar is the greatest teacher in the world!

Summary: Catcher In The Rye, The Best Book I've Read
Review: Catcher in the Rye is an amazing book. I have read many books and this is definately the best book I have read. It deals with issues. I am a teen and can relate to the book, it is interesting and is blunt, in a good way. This book is a great book for a person of any age, and changes your view on topics of things, and makes you aware of people's actions. I reccomend this book for anyone, it is amazing.

Summary: A book with no half-life.
Review: Catcher in the Rye is an extraordinary example of timeless literature, and though many would call the book pointless (rather than realistic) and refer to Holden as hypocritical (and not a teenager) I still find this book identifies with me as strongly as anyone from any other era, due to the realist/pessimistic views it displays from the teenage vantage point, rather than playing off the "best-years-of-your-life" cliché.

There's far to much to place here about the book, the author, and the message, and I feel obligated to urge anyone who reads this to pick up everything Salinger you can get your hands on, because he is truly an amazing author, and has such a way with words that even in his latter writing years, you can still identify with him as if he were a friend writing from the room next to yours. Catcher is his only published novels, but his reprinted short stories (Franny and Zooey, Nine Stories, & Raise High the Roofbeam, Carpenters) are also gems. If you can find them, the 22 unpublished shorts are also great.

There's really nothing a review can say that will show what you will learn and discover from this novel, and to attempt this would be pointless. Like Holden, I guess, we are all a little hypocritical.

Summary: Stunning Novel For All Ages
Review: CATCHER IN THE RYE is an impressive American fiction. A novel as memorable and beautiful as anything you have read before. Written in 1951, it still is a fresh and fascinating book for all ages.

Although marketed mainly for juvenile readers, the book really is an intelligent, serious literature containing every possible theme you can think of- a novella with the big picture.

Holden Caulfield is a most intriguing, realistic character, and a literary figure anyone can relate to- certainly a character who will stay in your mind. He hates "phonies", "flits", "perverts" and aspires to become 'the catcher in the rye and all'. As one reviewer already mentioned, Caulfield maybe suffering from internalised homophobia (but, really, that's for you to decide).

ENJOYABLE!!!!

Summary: A mediocre read, but an accurate portrayal of teenage life
Review: Catcher in the Rye is an interesting book, but not, as some may say, one of the best. It seems people read too much into the symbols in the book, and try to see things that aren't there. Even so, Salinger did not come up with a bad book. The portrayal of teenage life is excellent, and the feelings of the main character, Holden Caulfield seem to reflect ones which all of us have experienced at one time or another. As far as plot and depth go, however, this book is average, as is the style of writing. In other words, I've seen better, but I've also seen much worse.

Summary: The greatest Book I have ever read
Review: Catcher in the rye is by far the best book I have ever read, and It is amazing to me just how ahead of its time and controversial it was back in the early fifties. Don't wait to be forced to read it in highschool, go out and get now!

Summary: A superb and touching book...
Review: Catcher in the Rye is certainly one of the most compelling books I have ever encountered. The narrator, Holden Caulfield, has a style of thought and language which sticks quickly - the writing sits with you or doesnt as a personality may. Caulfield is now the archetype of the cynical adolescent, and J. D. Salinger manages to illustrate him with great depth and sensitity. The large majority of people who read Catcher in the Rye will find an affinity and connection with Holden Caulfield - if not this, then they will recognize aspects Caulfield in themselves or others. He is irrationaly critical and cynical in his judgements of people he does not know, however he is an extremely sympathetic and generous person.

I highly recommend this book to anyone. Catcher in the Rye is very readable and certainly has a huge impact on its readers. Whether it is a condemnation of immaturity, an account of a few days in the life of an adolescent, a critique of society (in general or in the books context) or an example of the misinterpretations of good and admirable people - It nevertheless remains an essential text, guaranteed to resonate with something in your bones.

Summary: Catcher in the Rye
Review: Catcher in the Rye is easily one of the most brilliant books ever written. It is wildly entertaining but also very deep. If I had to pick only 5 books to read over and over again for the rest of my life, this would be on that list, and probably in the top two or three. Very few classic works of literature from the United States are actually worth reading, but this book is the exception. Everyone should read this at some point in their lives.

Summary: Read it!!!!!!!!!!
Review: Catcher in the Rye is one of my favorite books. The first time I read this book I was 13 years old, I wasn't very interested in reading books, but a friend of my family said that this book I would like. And he was right. The way that the narrator (the main character in the history) tells the history don't let you get bored when you read it, because it tries to be similar to the talk of teenagers. Something that I noticed was the parallel between Holden and my own life. I really recommend this book. After I read it I realized that I should think more about my acts and my life.
