Summary: Holden is the Only Phony
Review: With all the hype around this book, I thought I'd be in for a treat. That, however, was not the case. I found it to be more annoying than anything else. For the potential reader, let me save you the suspense: It's about a kid who tells about what's happened to him over the last couple of weeks. It's a story ANYONE could write. Pathetic!

Summary: Salinger's a literary genius
Review: Without a doubt, The Catcher in the Rye is one of the best books I've ever read. Many people observe that this book is about someone who is clinically insane, but I read something completely different in Salinger's work. I view Holden, the main character, as a typical teenage boy with a bit more insight than the
average person. I see him as someone who looks at the negativity in the world and has a yearning to grasp even one small piece of innocence within it, but is blinded by the depravity that he sees everyday. I think that the book is about Holden trying to preserve innocence before realizing finally that it is impossible, and therefore he needs to find happiness in places where he normally wouldn't look to find it in order to prevent impending insanity. There are many different interpretations of this piece, and all of the interpretations hold weight, regardless of the fact that the various viewpoints are very much in dissent with one another. This is a piece that can be appreciated and understood by anyone, and I would recommend that everyone get their hands on a copy of this book.

Summary: As timeless as it is peerless
Review: Without going too much into detail, William Burroughs once stated "Art makes people aware of what they already know though they do not know that they know." I cannot think of anybody unable to empathize with the protagonist's disillusionment with the world that surrounds him. This is not the sort of book that speaks for a specific generation or sub-culture of society. This book speaks of and for the solipsist and the solitary. I habitually purchase copies for friends who haven't read it.

Summary: The What in the Where?
Review: Without meaning to be critical, cynical, nor harshly judgmental, "The Catcher In The Rye" compels me to ask: Why do schools and libraries encourage teens and young adults to read this senseless dribble about (what I perceived to be) a critical, cynical, and harshly judgmental antagonist? Frankly, and unfortunately, I was not too pleased with the book's plot (or lack thereof). Simply put: It did not make any sense, and I, as a reader, did not feel remorse nor sympathy for the principle character. His repetitiveness was viewed as immature, as well as his cussing and judgmentalism were irresponsible. Not exactly good examples I would set for any upcoming generation of young readers. I was unable to figure out the author's reason(s) for writing such a "critically acclaimed" classic, and I could not care to. My opinion of this book is that it's not worth the read. I would not recommend it to anyone, not even to a dog.

Summary: Holden is God
Review: Without this book, I could not go on - period. It is my light; it is my sun; it is the air that I breathe; it is the water that I thirst for to keep me alive. Holden, you are God and nothing else matters. The battles that we wage with others are meaningless if we do not first win the ones within ourselves.

Summary: End equal Middle
Review: Would have rather read something else. I really didn't like the book. To me the ending just stoped and it left many questions unanswered. Holdens constant whining and complaining really bugged me, and it drove me nuts how he would always repeat himself over and over again. One part that I liked is when he is at home with Phoebe, and they are in her room dancing to the music. Other then that part, the book didn't interest me that much.

Summary: My favorite book
Review: WOW!!!!!!!. So many reviews about this book. That must tell you something. This book is my favorite book i have ever read. I can still remember in my high school english class reading it. I believe many people in there adolecents feel connected to this book like i did when i first read it. Like when Holden said he was sickened by the people that go to the theatre, not because they like it, but because they have nothing else to do. To truely appreciate this book you need that understanding. I highly suggest you buy this book.

Summary: Masterpiece Touches Your Soul and Stimulates Your Intelect
Review: Wow, I started this book at 5:00 in the afternoon and have stayed up until 3:00 this morning to finnish the book, even though tomorrow is my first day of classes. The plot was so moving, I just couldn't fall asleep. This story of the experiences of an intelligent, unmotivated, 16-year old is filled with clever antecdotes and emotional passages. This is a must read for everybody!

Summary: Amazing
Review: Wow. That is the first word uttered after I put this novel down. J.D. Salinger truly has a gift for writing. Catcher In The Rye is an amazing novel, written richly and in colorful tone. Holden Caulfield is the perfect main character you never thought of. Who knew that writing about some modern boring life could be so interesting? To me, this book is the best I have ever read in my life. It is richly detailed and fully animated to make a book hard to put down without finding out what is on the next page. Salinger completely describes the hardships of a 16 year old trying to find himself in a superficial world in which he cannot trust many people. It explains his thought process, through which Holden rambles on about his messed up life and how everyone around him he cannot stand. The plot is quite realistic and in a portion of the novel I as shocked to find a situation in which I myself could closely relate to. (I would rather not say which, for his situations certainly are not fattering) This novel is so great, I cannot stress enough that it is a must read for any teenager struggling to find his or her identity. It is a cure for the common depression of adolescents. Thank you J.D. Salinger for writing such a great novel and it is too bad you cannot share even more of your wonders with us.
