Rating: Summary: I would have given 5 stars when I was 14. Review: This used to be my favorite book, when I was a teenager. Not that I am far removed from that now-I am 24, but this book still had a profound effect on me. I first read it when I was 14, and thought it was genius. I re-read it every couple of years, to see how my interpretations of the book change as I get older. At 14, I thought it was the best book I had ever read. At 18, I couldn't get over how angry Holden was. At 24, I see Holden as a teenager, having trouble finding his place in the world. I know he's a fictional character, but he could represent all teenagers and I hope that he will fall in love, find real friends and his niche in the world. For a book famous for being read by teenagers, I wouldn't recommend it to them. I would really recommend this book to a young adult, maybe over 22, who was an angry teenager, to see that they are not alone and how far they have come from that place in their lives.
Rating: Summary: Good Review: This was a good book. It got a little boring in some places.
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: This was a great book. I am very glad I read it. At first I thought it sounded pretty stupid becuase I thought it was going to be about a bread factory of something like that. But it turned out to be a great book about a kid growing up.
Rating: Summary: It was horrible Review: This was a horrible book, with no plot or any good characters. I have no idea why people continue to read it. It uses repetative and pointless language. A filthy and horrible peice of literature, if you can call it literature. The only thing that makes this a classic is that it was once banned, and maybe it still should be.
Rating: Summary: SJ'S REVIEW Review: THIS WAS A MOST ENJOYABLE BOOK TO READ. EVERY TIME iREAD IT I FEEL MORE IN TOUCH WITH HOLDEN. He is a very bright an intriging young man , even though his grades in school might not show that. He is expresing feelings that numerous teenagers and young adults go through. Holden makes you feel sorry for him, and makes you want him to be successful in life.
Rating: Summary: One of the most greatest books I have read Review: This was a really great book. I can't remember when I read a book so fast like that. It was so fun that I couldn't take my eyes off it. I think this book is misunderstood, too. The reason I read this book is because I wanted to find out WHY it got banned. But I don't see no particular reason. Sure, the language isn't great, but if it weren't for that language, the book would have lost it's meaning. They're crazy if they want to bann this book. The language that kids use these days are no compared to the one in Catcher in the Rye. Anyway, the story isn't what you call good, but the ending was touching. I won't tell you what was touching because you've got to figure out yourself. I don't want to spoil it for you!
Rating: Summary: Horrendous! Review: This was a terrible book! Why is it so interesting to hear about a boy who keeps flunking out of school, is let loose in New York, and can only think about sex? I don't see why this is such a classic.
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: This was a truley amazing book. I'm currently a sphomore at a private high school and we read this book. It is easy to relate to and is just a truley outstanding novel. I'd also like to criticize all the adults trying to keep this book out of the public school system for its "harsh language". The language is not that bad and the book is very good!
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful novel to read. Review: This was a very enjoyable novel to read because it helped me realize that I am not the only person in the world with problems. It was very easy for me to relate to the novel right when I started reading. I give it a two thumbs up.
