Rating: Summary: Why read this book? Review: This is probably the second most overrated book in American Literature. I do not understand why people think this book is so great. I quickly tired of the protagonist's well-heeled puerile whining . I kept thinking, "Grow up, for God's sake." In short, I would argue that Salinger's insights and themes are stunted and trivial at best. To teh people who love this book I would say Grow up and find out what real life is like and maybe read some real books
Rating: Summary: Fine book! Review: This is really a nice book,
I've read this book when I was 18 and I liked it very much.
Who can give me info (websites etc.) about Salinger?
Rating: Summary: A must-read!! Review: This is simply a classic masterpiece, depicting a rich boy, Holden Caulfield, as he bums around New York City after being expelled from yet another prep school. The style of writing is honest and believable - it is told in the first person, by Holden, and his teenage dialect is both funny and realistic, as he uses the same few phrases over and over again throughout the book, as many teenagers do today. Although this book was written in 1945, the writing style allows it to take place in modern times. It is also a fairly quick read with many quotable quotes, and is the sort of book that can be read again and again. I highly recommend it for anyone but particularly adolescents, who are probably feeling many of the same emotions as Holden Caulfield.
Rating: Summary: BEST NOVEL EVER Review: This is single-handedly the most enthralling book I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Salinger writes in such a wonderful and unique way you truly feel as though you are living the stroy along with young Holden Caufield. An amazing, amazing book. Wonderful.
Rating: Summary: Smells like teen spirit Review: This is the archetypal book of angst and enlightenment, a novel of growth and realization. Full of symbolism and hidden meaning, this novel captures the very essence of the teenage soul. It is a study of the problems that plague nearly all adolescents. Holden Caulfield wants to catch others from falling, but first he must learn to catch himself. I strongly reccomend this book to all who haven't read it, and all who have but don't own it. It'll be yours to read whenever you start feeling like you're dissapearing every time you cross the road.(PS, though Catcher in the Rye is about adolescents, it is not for adolescents only. I have noticed no "fart jokes")

Rating: Summary: my favorite book and literary character Review: this is the best book i have ever read. i have read it five times and everytime i read it i pick up on some new insight to what this book is really about. most people say it is a coming of age story but really it is more like a failed coming of age. i think a lot of teenagers can relate to this because after the teen years it's almost like where do you go from here? holden deperately wants to hold on to his innocence for as long as he can which is why he doesn't like phonies. some people say it is not a classic because the language is elementary but it is a classic story to which a lot of people can relate to which is why i think it is a classic piece of literature.
Rating: Summary: Best book I have yet read Review: This is the best book I have yet read.
