Rating: Summary: A very good book about some days in a person's life. Review: This book was released in 1951, but it doesn't feel aged at all. It feels very real. It is both fun and sometimes almost frightening in its realistic description of human behavior. I think everybody can recognize parts of himself or herself in Holden Caulfield, the main character. This book is quite short and can be read quite quickly, which is good for those who don't read much, but it shouldn't make people who read much avoid it. It is a very good book about some difficult days in a person's life. I really recommend everybody to give it a try. I think you will love it!
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This book was so funny. The humor was wonderful. Sometimes Holden would begin to talk about things that had nothing to do with the topic he was talking about. He would jump around from things to things. This got some what annoying at the end. But other wise this book was wonderful. Must read.
Rating: Summary: i'm a reader far away! Review: this book was the book which affected me most.i'm a chinese,in such a country, the mode of education was very strict.in such a system, the student has few problities to resist the teaching system, although it is old and not be liking.
Rating: Summary: Best Book Ever Review: This book was the funniest, most realistic piece of literature ever written. I love Holden's character because he's not afraid to say what he really feels. Even though there's no plot really, this book is hard to put down because it's so humorous and interesting.
Rating: Summary: To accept it, first accept yourself. Review: This book was the turning point of my life as an English student. Holden's first-person vernacular expresses the inner, repressed voice of many, something unqiue to this book alone. Holden may depress some readers, and anger others (both, in my case), but this is the strength of this book- the reader feels a strong emotional response. Beyond the initial reactions, the teenage world of conflict between isolation and acceptance is powerfully portrayed.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I relate to. Review: This book was very appealing to me because of the storyline. It was a laid back book that I could really relate to. I liked the book because it had to do with adolesence. I could see my self as Holden. His character was a character that i connected with in the story. If you are a teenager and like books that are a little on the edge you should read this book. It has a little swearing but that is okay for our society today, so give this book a try. Peace!
Rating: Summary: It was very different from most other books that I have read Review: This book was very different from all of the others that i have read. It eas different though, in a good sense. I would definately reccomend it to everyone... around the age of 14-15 so that the person can at least understand it. Even if you do not have to read it for school...take the time to read it....it wont kill ya and you might just actually like it. This whole deal though with this banning stuff -- screw it...those people wouldn't know a great piece of literature if it slapped them in the face for g-d sakes!! This book is so good...but I think that the best thing that I can say ... is to just pick up a copy, or go to your library and read it for yourslef. Don't cheat tiwht the Cliffs Notes though...just use them if you need help understanding the book! -- MB
Rating: Summary: muy interesante Review: This book was very difficult to comprehend at first. I had to read it for an English class, over the summer. I didn't understand it, and thought that Holden was just a very immature and coloqial kind of person. But when I read it again, I got most of the humor, and understood everything a lot better. Everyone has to read it in school, so if you haven't read it yet, READ IT!
Rating: Summary: The book was a wonderful display of a teen's life, but... Review: This book was wonderful, after you got past the first dialoge. Holden, the main character, was an easy to imagine character. There is no real plot to it, but it displays a teen's life and thoughts perfectly. The book however should have been a lot longer in time, not the actual length of the book, but it should have covered more time in Holden's life. Overall, I thought Salinger did a wonderful job.
Rating: Summary: the catcher in the rye Review: this book wasn't that bad but I'm sure I wouldn't read it again. because we had to read it I finished it otherwise I should have stopped after the first chapter. if you read one page Holden said about 20 times "the damn" and that bothered me a lot. something else I didn't like about the way it was written was that the writer wrote like the way they said it.By example: Ya lost them, Ya mean and sonuvabitch, and that was in a way confusing. the books gets better after the lost chapters when he goes home and spends some time with his sister. the book is easy to read, there are only a few difficult words in it and that's a big advantage. conclusion: I didn't like the book very much.
