Summary: the catcher of the eye
Review: this book was an astonishing look into the life of the synic. however we analzye this view to be so but without realizing that we ourselves are all synics . this novel peers into the life of another and grasps the attention as to why we do such a thing and how it is so much of a benifit to us. and its pretty funny.... why else would it get five stars no one likes a completly dull and over disciplined book.

Summary: Pretty Funny
Review: This book was an easy read, and a good narrative, except there was no plot! if you can get past that, then you will enjoy yourself reading about 3 days in Holden Caulfield's life. As a teen, i easily identified with his story of boredem, discontent and all the "phonies" in one's life.

Summary: Classic or contemporary?
Review: This book was an excellent read I don't remember too many details just the feelings I received from it. I'm 16 myself so I had to read this book in an English class. I remeber this girl I knew said that book [is terrible] all he does is whine and complain. I read the book and instantly felt kinship to Holden Caulfield. the first few lines were how I usually describe my life story. Later on I was felt he was like me in that everyone around him is phony but more importantly how he's not good at accepting changes in people. What struck me was how contemporary it could be. Holden's actions and feelings reflect those of any teenager today. It is not unusual to hear of us kids failing classes, slumming around on the streets, smoking, drinking, swearing, fighting, and talking about sex. That's what surprised me. Seeing that it was written in 1951 made me think that it would be all "gee whiz" but this book could tell the story of any other troubled introverted teenager. With this book I felt I could wallow in this self-exile and not be worried about what society thinks and just fly your own flag and take aim on those around me. And at the time it was relieving

Summary: the damn book just killed me...
Review: This book was awesome, plain and simple. This book really shows human beings at their weakest. The protagonist; a boy that's about 16 is kicked out of school and leaves early to live on the streets for a few days before going home, but during these few days he makes some really stupid decisions. The whole book revolves around teenager's insecurities; about himself, about life, about the way the world works and quite a bit about girls actually. J.D Salinger did something really terrific. He only had one character really. Holden is still trying to preserve his child like innocence while discovering the world of adulthood. You really get to know and appreciate Holden throughout the book because everyone goes through that time in life. So even though the plot is not complicated and it's most definitely not action packed, you get so much character development that it makes a pretty big impact because everyone can reflect on what happens to Holden and what he thinks about everything. This book was wonderfully written and brings Holden to life perfectly. I congratulate J.D. Salinger on writing one of the best achievements in American literature.

Summary: reality check
Review: This book was different from the books I read. It was the one that was closest to my life also known as reality. As you read this book, it seems as if Holden's always digressing into some other insane subjects, but isn't that how people really think? Also, all of Holden's pessimistic views accord with how people really feels. Mankind seems to always have this dark view of things even though happiness is layed right in front of their eyes. Well, I'm digressing again. Anyways, this book was a book that was certainly one of the better ones, and was a book that never stopped your emotions from rising.

Based on what I'm reading on the review board, and what other poeple I know said about this book, one similarity seems to arise from all the reviewers, complaints about the ending and the "message" behind the book. First of all, books are not like movies, you do not have to see the ending that has been already created for you, but make an assumption about what happened. That is the beauty of the book what separates from the "phony" movies. Also about the message of the book, the whole book is filled with messages, it is up to you to find out the right message for you.

Summary: This book was a 3 hour headache two thumbs down
Review: This book was filled with non stop nothing. The most exciting part of the book was the end. I burned it the night I read it. They should have called this book catcher in the fire.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: A dry depressing novel!
Review: This book was full of profanity and pointless dialogue. It didn't live up to any of my expectations or my fellow student's expectations. Catcher In the Rye should not be a classic novel. I strongly suggest looking for a different book that doesn't constantly refer to Prostitution and loneliness.

Summary: curiously unique
Review: This book was given to me as a gift, and a well-chosen one too. It is one of those rare books that are virtually in orbit around a character instead of around a plot. I was half-way through the book and about three people asked me, "Is it good? What is it about?". To all three I had to reply, "I really don't know." Of course they all argued that I had to know what it was about, I was nearly done. I could have told him what the character THOUGHT about, what type of a person the character was, but I would never really be able to get around to answering their QUEstion. J.D. Salinger, though, is amazing in the fact that he can still make it a very interesting book despite that. Everybody should read it.

Rating: 5 stars
