Summary: One of a Kind
Review: The Catcher in the Rye is a CLASSIC! Even from the first page you are sucked into the book and are trapped inside until you finish it. It will not let you go until you know what happens to our friend, Holden. His crazy life, family, friends, and expressions capture the reality of teenage American life. I was 16 when I read it and I believe it is the best remedy for a confused teenager or a adult who longs for his or her teenage years.

Summary: The Catcher in the Rye
Review: The Catcher in the Rye is a great book for teenagers to read because it is a story about a boy's attempt to leave his past in hopes to find his place in the world. Holden, the protagonist of the story, is a troubled teenager who gets kicked out of prep school. Throughout the story, Holden experiences different things while being out on his own. The story takes place in New York City where Holden is forced to deal with many issues of the world such as alcohol, depression, prostitution, suicide, and love. Leaving behind D.B., Phoebe, and Allie (members of his family), who are the antagonists of the story, he tries to understand the world the best he can. There are a few external conflicts that take place, like when Holden and his roommate get in an argument over a girl and the brawl between Holden and Maurice over a prostitute. The central conflict of the story is inside of the main character. Holden struggles to find his true self and tries not to see the world as good and evil but as a whole. As for the ending you will have to read and find out whether or not this young teenager can overcome the problems of the world and realize the true meaning of life.
J.D. Salinger uses a number of metaphors in order to help you visualize the story more accurately. He also uses irony, symbolism, and many flashbacks that allow you to see the story from the characters' point of view. Salinger's vivid details help the reader to understand the full impact of the story. The author wrote this book in order to show the many different paths chosen by people for their lives. Many authors show only the 'good side of town' but as for Salinger he decided to reveal the not so good side. The language used in this book is quite rough, but Salinger uses this in order to display the world as it is in real life. Despite the language, I think this book was well written and interesting for people my age. I am positive many teenagers will be able to relate to the lifestyle of Holden. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to sit down and read a great book about the hardships of life.

Summary: My favorite book
Review: The Catcher in The Rye is a great book written by a great writer of fiction and symbolism. Being a writer, I know how hard symbolism is to write. Salinger has done such an outsanding job. It is very obvious that Holden needs a catcher, and at the same time is a catcher. I love this book, and I'm sure there are millions that feel the same way I do. Holden is such a great character. I can relate to him so much. I thank J.D. Salinger for writing a wonderful book. I am sure it will continue to be a success, as others discover how truly fantastic this novel is.

Summary: the best book i ever read
Review: The Catcher in the Rye is a great story of a teenager who has to face the world after he is thrown of of prep school. It is really funny and, as a teenager, very easy to relate to. This is a must-read for anyone.

Summary: Catcher in the Rye
Review: The Catcher in the Rye is a literary masterpiece that symbolizes the preservation of youth and the rebellious attitude that children encounter in the teen years of their life. Holden Caulfield, the protagonist of the story, is the epitome of a rebellious teen. Because of lack of work and caring, Holden is expelled from three schools. A chronic liar, he cheats his way through his childhood. Though he has this terrible attitude, and an awful view on everything, he drags you into his life, and you begin to have sympathy for the character. The only thing that he would like to get out of his life is to become the "catcher in the rye", the one person that can keep children from going over the edge, and by edge I mean stepping into adulthood. This book is one of the best written, and certainly the most interesting book I have ever read.

Summary: Insightful
Review: The Catcher in the Rye is a masterful insight on Salinger's part into the peculiarities of the human mind. He excells in capturing the subconcious concerns of Holden while writing in a first person stream of conciousness style. And excellent read.

Summary: A Great Read for any Teen
Review: The Catcher in the Rye is a must read for any young teen. It tells the story of Holden Caulfield and a few adventuresome days in New York City following his expulsion from his school Pencey. Holden represents most teens today, pessamistic and a little insecure, but deep down inside Holden shows he has a heart as he expresses his love and care towards his sister Phoebe. This is a great read and leaves the reader only wishing that Salinger had published more of his works.

Summary: A Very Good, Very Truthful Novel
Review: The Catcher in the Rye is a novel about the actions and emotions of an adolescent boy's "coming of age." While that may be a trite way of looking at this book, it is completely true. Salinger paints a totally accurate view of the world of a teenage boy, or any teenager, for that matter. While the story is set in 1950's New York, it would have fit perfectly into 2001 Small Town (or Big City), USA. I would recommend this to anyone, young or old, to help people truly understand what it is to be young and lost in the world.

Summary: A Few Days in the Life of Holden Caulfield
Review: The Catcher in the Rye is a novel set in the late 1940's and revolves around two days in the life of Holden Caulfield, a sixteen-year-old boy who was once again expelled from a prep school. The story takes place at Pencey, Caulfield's prep school in Pennsylvania, and then in and around his home in New York. Caulfield suffers throughout the book from the "phoniness" of society, adults, and everyone else with the sole exception of his younger sister Phoebe. I think that the main theme of the novel is "sometimes when you look around you and you hate all you see, it may be you and not everything else that is wrong." The author, J. D. Salinger, uses many allusions and flashbacks throughout the novel. Holden is a teenager who never fully recovered from the death of his brother, then gets depressed from others being what he calls phonies, and has a nervous breakdown. The story is presented to the reader as he is talking to a psychiatrist at the mental institution he is placed in. I did not like the Catcher in the Rye; it was not the cursing that bothered me but rather the negativity. I really liked Holden though, he'd be a great guy to date. I loved his sarcastic attitude. However, the book just did not appeal to me.
