Summary: The best novel of the 20th century
Review: Possibly the best novel of the 20th century describes the story of a troubled teen who has elevated into a pop icon for those of us who don't fit in with the world. Salinger's book encompassess all those undisplayed thoughts that we want to keep secret.

Summary: An OK Story
Review: Potty-mouthed Holden Caulfield is the narrator of this story. He makes it his goal to detect the frauds in life. This book chronicles his adventures with nuns, roomates, prostitutes, and people of all sorts after he leaves Pencey Prep, a school he claims is full of phonies.
I thought it did not seem to have much of a point, though it poignantly explored the relationships Holden had with some of the other characters, especially his sister, Phoebe...

Summary: interesting
Review: Pretty good book-and very easy to read. This is not your typical "classic" book. It's funny and very real-life. It's life from a teen's perspective and it has spunk.

Summary: What can I say?
Review: Pretty good. Interesting idea of writing a whole book based on a few days. Holden's character is quite interesting. He seems like a pretty lonely guy. It seems a bit contradictory for him to call everyone a phoney when he lies all the time. He is also quite judgemental. But he percieves the world quite interestingly. I can really relate to him. The things he talks about i can instantly understand (except for the bit about him practising on a hooker).

Summary: The Holy Grail of Modern Fiction
Review: Quite simply put, one of the greatest works of literature ever created.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the TRUE CLASSICS of modern literature.
Review: Quite simply, a must-read for every generation. A beautiful, sincere telling of a teenage boy's take on the world. Holden Caufield is certainly one of the most memorable characters from the last 100 years of literature. The bittersweet tone of the story enthralls you. When you read this book, you will remember it for your whole life. It grips you.

Bottom Line: Read this book. If you've already read it- read it again.

Review: ranks right up there with "on the road," "the sun also rises," and "generation x ,"as an epic novel of dissilusioned youth...my 12th grade english teach made me read this book when i wanted to read hamlet...i don't think i'll ever be able to thank her enough...holden caulfield is me...and if anyone ever tries to make a movie version of this book, may he never know another day of peace on earth...read it for yourself...

Summary: This book will make you question yourself...
Review: Rare is the chance to hear someone really speak whatever comes to mind. The blatent honesty of Holden Caufield is what makes this book so interesting. Some people find it offensive, but really, that's what the book is all about. Holden would never not say something just because he's afraid that they would be offended. Just as when Holden says that people who get off topic are more interesting, this is the case. Holden never really has an obvious direction, but it doesn't hurt him because he is being true to who he is. Holden is the ideal person because he is completely honest. This book is for every person in the world because you will question yourself, your morals and your actions. That is so important and for most people it never happens. I recommend reading this as an adult as well as a teenager because if you can relate to it as a kid, you should also relate to it as an adult. Kids are so much more honest with everyone than adults. (that is why Holden can talk to Phoebe so easily). You should still be able to relate to this as an adult. If you can't, look deep inside yourself, because there are tons of ways to relate to this book. I don't want to give away too much of this book, but I have to tell you that you must read it. If you don't start questioning who you are as a person by the end of the book, read it again because there are so many questions that Holden asks himself that apply to all humans. This is definetly something to take seriously. It will really change your outlook.

Summary: <insert meaningful phrase here>
Review: Rather than drone on about the influence this book had on me (though great it was) or the way in which it captures the feelings and perspectives of so many teenagers like every other review I would simply say that this is one eof the few books where there is so much more than meets the eye. Everyone will tell you that Holden is disgusted by phonies, but what makes this more interesting to the point of amusement is that often, right after he he attacks people for being phony, he does something phony himself such as when he's in the bar. To me it's the things like this that make it relate to teenagers because all teenagers like to criticise others for following the crowd while they are following a crowd of sorts themselves. It's all these lil things that make the book so incredibly good. Also, the entire catcher in the rye bit, and the idea that the field represtns youth and realness in people gets me every time; I read it and afterwards I'm stuck in a state of contemplation for a good hour at least. What I would give to have met J.D. Salinger...Oh and one more thing, I think it's far too simplistic too blame all of Holdens "angst" (an incredibly over-used and crap word) on his brothers death; I believe there is slightly more to do with it than that. Don't you?
