Rating: Summary: It's Ok. Review: I think that the book "catcher in the rye" was a good book but not a great one. It's basicly about a boy, Holden Caulfeild, that gets kicked out of a prep school because he is failing every class. His parents don't expect him home for a few weeks, so he wanders around New York city. Throughout the book he calls up people he knows from the past just to talk. I also wasn't to fond of the author's writing style. He always goes into so much detail about stuff that isn't relevent to the story. Besides that, I thought the story was funny, although they probobly weren't supposed to be. I also thought the story itself was pretty good, as I'm sure anybody can relate to Holden in someway or another.
Rating: Summary: It was a good book and I enjoyed a lot. Review: I think that the catcher in the Rye is a good book. I enjoyed a lot while I was reading it. I recomend this book to high school students and adults because it has a lot of disscussion, many points of view of Holden and makes us realize and think about the real world we are living in. It was an iteresting book but I wws very dissapointed with the ending.

Rating: Summary: not a good pick Review: I think that The Catcher in the Rye is a sad portrayl of a young and confused teenager. The book did not interest me at all and the constant use of profanity made the book even worse. There seemed to be no plot and when I thought the book was actually going some where, I ran into another dead end. It did bring up a few desent points, but other than that I have to say that I give the book a thumbsdown. I hope some liked it, but as for me, I found nothing interesting about it.
Rating: Summary: Great book for those who don't like to read Review: I think that this book is cool. It helps you understand what might come up in your life. It helps you understand temptation. It's a bad book. My teacher told me I had to explain that "bad" means "good". Thanks old Mr. Spencer (Holden's history teacher).
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I think that this book is great, and makes good use of an untypical hero. Holden Caulfield, who has already dropped out of a few prep schools, has dropped out of another. He isn't a typical person either, not by a long shot. With a strong hate for phonies and the movies, Holden tells the story of his time alone in New York after leaving Pencey Prep. The Catcher In the Rye is an incredibly descriptive book, but in a different way than most. The story is filled with a plethora of Holden's thoughts and ideas. He is a very, very developed character. Another great quality of this book is its uniqueness. It is unlike any other book I have read. The development of the main character makes it seem very real, and can really help you visualize the story. People also speak realistically, actually swearing when it's appropriate, making the book more interesting and even more real. Sometimes the thinking becomes a bit obsessive, but not much. This book is great, especially for those interested in a classic novel.
Rating: Summary: This is a great Teenage Book!!! Review: I think that this book was a really good book for teenagers, and it lets them relate to the book. It says many things that might happen to a normal teenager and it is the only book that teenagers can read that tells about their life. I would recomend this book to anyone, it is a great book.
Rating: Summary: Holden Caulfield, a phony like the rest Review: I think that this book was pretty good. This book is about a boy that keeps flunking out of school without much direction in life. He has a lot of potential, as said in the book by Mr. Antolini. He is too preocupied in finding "phonies" that he can't focus on what is really important so that he can't enjoy life. He is always pretending to be older than he really is, lying about who he is, everything else about himself and he doesn't even realise that he is a phony. He sees himself as "the catcher in the rye", which is a protector of the innocent and the preventer of others becoming phony
Rating: Summary: This was a very interesting and deep book. Review: I think that this book was very mind-reaching and in-depth. The character Holden expresses his deep dislike for conformity in his own unique and individual way. It gives the reader a look at someone else's views of society.
Rating: Summary: i think people miss the point... Review: I think that this is one of the best books I've ever read (and I don't give out 10s that easily). But from reading the reviews below, I think people are missing something. Holden is a very troubled boy. I think it is rather obvious that he has some psychological disorders (depression for one, maybe a few others). And as someone who has experienced a few of those breakdowns, I can tell you that a lot of what Holden feels is a lot of what I felt. Sure there is teen angst involved in this story, and I'm sure it is an excellent social commentary, but what strikes me most about Salinger's story is how accurately it portrays the thoughts of a person with depression. If you really want to understand how a person with depression or anti-socail tendencies feels, read this book.
