Review: Forged by Fire by Sharon M. Draper was very intriguing. It expressed the positive and negative aspects of Gerald Nickelby's life. Throughout this noveL, Draper expressed every event in young Gerald Nickelby's life as if you were right in the room while the events took place.

One problem I had with this book was it could have been a little more gentle with the child Angel being abused by her devilish, cold-hearted stepfather Jordan. There are just some things that shouldn't be expressed so bluntly. The fact that a child is being abused isn't something a writer should take so lightly or should put in a book because of the simple fact that there are sick people doing this in the world today. Putting this in a book is like telling the people in the world that this is an okay act. I just really think she could have found a better way to go about abuse in the book.

On the other hand, Gerald finally finds a way to get his abusive stepfather to stop abusing Angel, as well as his mother. This to me was a starting point of Gerald showing his true leadership abilities. Also, this shows that he is becoming the man he wanted to be. He wanted to show his mom that they were the total opposites, and he wasn't going to walk out on his family when they needed him the most. They needed to see that they were being abused more than physically; they were being abused mentally as well.

I would recommend this book Forged by Fire to any who likes suspense and to anyone likes to help solve the problem as if they were in the events that were taking place. I urge anyone to read this book, but don't take my word for it, pick up the book and read it for yourself.

Review: I read Forged by Fire this morning. It is a book that many young adults will love. Draper does an excellent job developing the characters and the plot of this novel. It deals with so many relevant issues of today's youth.

Review: This story is about two siblings trying to survive in a very troubled family. Both of them need to find a way to confront their troubled stepfather. I like this book because it was very realistic. It shows what life is really like for some kids, and what they have to go through.

Review: I am a tenth grade English teacher in North Carolina. I read this book to my classes at the beginning of each period as an introduction activity. This book makes students want to find out what happens to Gerald and Angel, which in turn makes them get to class on time, AND want to read. I highly recommend this book to reluctant readers and advanced students alike. Ms. Draper's characters are realistically drawn and their dialogue really relates to teenagers of today. If you want a book that will get a teenager to read, this is it!

Review: To me "Forged By Fire",and "Tears Of A Tiger" were the best books I've ever came across.The African American chacrters were so very real. Being black myself, helped me understand teen African American life.Sharon Draper seemed to make the charters seem so close to your own life.My teacher order the book from Amazon.com, and allowed me to read it.If your searching for any great books, these books are the best!

Summary: Excellent portrayal of adolescent boy and his urban life
Review: My 13 year old son and I both read and enjoyed this book. Excellent, moving, portrayal of a troubled life. My suburban son was able to understand that not everyone has as easy a life as he does. The story seems to present a realistic view of the life led by a young man, struggling to find stability amidst the wreckage of his family. One ends the book cheering for a strong a courageous spirit, and hoping all young men could be as strong.

In Forged By Fire follows the life of a boy from being three years old to seventeen years old. It is all about how his stepfather beats him. The story takes place in Cincinnati. The characters are Gerald, Aunt Queen, Mama, Jordan, and Angle. First, Mama, is the mother of Gerald and she takes drugs and sometimes is mean. Then there is Gerald who is a nice kid that doesn't do anything wrong. Next is Aunt Queen; she is the aunt of Gerald and the sister of Mama. She is very nice and caring for Gerald. Jordan is the stepfather who is always mean and drunk who doesn't care about anything at all. Angle is Gerald's stepsister, and she loves Gerald a lot. In this book there are lots of problems for Gerald, and Angle. Everything goes bad for Gerald. It all started when Gerald was three years old. His mom went out to get some drugs. So he found a lighter and was playing with it. Gerald ended up making a fire in the house. Then the next day Gerald woke up in a hospital, and his mom was put into jail. So Gerald had to live with his Aunt Queen. Then one day it was Gerald's birthday and Aunt Queen had a surprise for him. It was his mom who was out of jail and she had someone with her........................ The author S. Draper has a great way of telling real life problems. You can picture this story in your mind. Also you can feel how sad, and hopeless these two kids feel. Forged By Fire is a good book for teens and adults. By reading this great book you feel as if you are there watching what is happening. I recommend this book to anyone who doesn't like to read long books, and to anyone who likes to understand what is happening. In this book you never get confused. Also it is hard to believe but you can enjoy reading Forged By Fire!!!!!!!!!
