It has been the best book I've read since Romiette and Julio! Actually I have never like reading until I had to read Romiette and Julio for my reading class over vacation. I wasent thinking of reading it cuz I dont like to read but we had a test on the first day and I HAD to pass the test. So I read it on Friday till Sunday I read from morning to night. I ended up loving the book but then I had to read Tears of a Tiger for my English class and since I saw it was the same author I had to read it right away we had a month to read it but it only took me a day. I started crying at the end so loud I woke my baby sister up. I love the book it is # 1 and in second place comes Romiette and Julio. I want to thank Sharon for doinga great job. I would love to see more books similar to the other ones she did. Brenda, from Texas
Rating: Summary: Young opinion for young readers Review: I was 13 years old when i bought Drapers FORGED BY FIRE. It deals with real teenage issues. Draper really created a page turner, when she wrote Forged By Fire. It is about a young boy who goes through with his mother at the age of three. After nearly killing his self with a ligher(he was left at home by his self), he moves in with his Aunt Queen. If not for his Aunt, he would have died. She moves him in and take care of him. Years later his mom comes to get him, and he finds out he has a younger sister. Both Queen and Gerald and tell somthing is wrong with Angel. Later he finds out his stepfater Jordan has been raping her at night. This causes Gerald to grow up with a compasionate hate for Jordan. He comfronts Jordan about his abuse and drinking. They hassel with this untill Gerald is in high school. He finally tells a friends fater and something is done about the sitution. There is much more to the story, but you'll have to buy the book to see.
Rating: Summary: An Intense Book Review: I first started reading this book because it was basically right in front of me...I never thought it would contain the details, and vivid imagination it did. This book is about a young boy named Gerald who has a drug atic, abusive mother. One night when their small apartment caught fire, Gerald was caught in the midst of it and is luck to be alive. His mother is taking to jail and to rehabilitate from using drugs. In the mean while, Gerald goes to live with his dear aunt who cares for him and healed him from his painful past. When the aunt dies, he is forced to go live with his mother who seems to have changed but Gerald won't change his mind about her. When Gerald first meets his mother, he sees a new addition. A young girl named Angel who is now her sister. Surprisingly, Gerald because very close to her and constantly protects her from his abusive step-father, Jordan. You'll see in this book, courage, love, and friendship, all unfold before your eyes.
Rating: Summary: This book was off the hook Review: I like how Gerald stood up to Jordan in the end but I wasn't really feelin' the fact that Angel was being violated the way she was and I was so happy that Gerald went to live with them to protect Angel. When Monique finally got some sense the book started getting better even though she did stupid things after she got that sense. All in all this book was really nice!!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter move out the way! Review: This book is so totally my favorite book. When I first got it I couldn't put it down it was so unpredictable and just suspensful. Its so so so good u have too buy this book!
Rating: Summary: Liz's Report Review: The first time I got and read this book I was too young to actually understand the context of what was being said. Considering fourth graders don't usually read books like this. But it hooked me a I've read it many time since then. Each time I feel that I find something new, and each time I learn about the characters more. I am a very picky person when come to reading books and I know my stuff, and I know that Sharon M. Draper is an exelent writer who knows how to captrue the audiance it is intended for. The the scenes and surrondings are describe are supurb and you really get to feeling sorry for the main character of the book. I give this book my highest ratings and believe that everyone should get a book like to be read and read over and over.
Rating: Summary: Nothing special to me... Review: I had to read this for class and I personally didn't like it. Basically Gerald's mother abandons him and Gerald lives with Aunt Queen. On one of his birthdays Gerald's mother comes back saying that she and Jordan (her husband) want him to come live with them and that he has a sister, Angel. Aunt Queen dies and so Gerald has to live with his mother and Jordan. Jordan beats Gerald and Angel. Gerald is Angel's savior so to speak and protects her from Jordan whenever he can. You later find out that Jordan molests Angel... Monique (the mother) is in denial about how Jordan treats Gerald and Angel. All Angel and Gerald really have is each other. Other people in my class loved this book, but I really didn't see anything great about it.
Rating: Summary: Black Experience Review: The book I read was Forged by Fire. I thought this was a good book to read. I think is a good book for people especially for teenagers. The reason why I it's good for teenagers because the book was basically telling about most teenagers life and what they go through everyday. Childern getting abuse, parent negating there child, parent on drugs, and tthe child wound up feeling unwanted and lost. But as far as all this bad thing that happen let me talk about the character: brother Gerald which is being negated, his little sister Angel which is feeling lack of love, there mothere Monique which is on drugs and don't really care about her kids, Gerald's stepfather, Monique husdand, Angel father Jordan which is very controlling and won't every thing his way or no wat. Then their Aunt Queen the family 's aunt, she was the love of the family. I think that this book wounld have been papular if the whole class would have read it together. The reason why I say this because after Iread the first pages I had wanted to know what was going to happen next. I think everybody who read and dislike to read would have read this book. Because this is basically telling about everyday life. I think I would read another book by this author because this book is good and i want to find what happens next. It's like another chapter. You just can't stop reading it. On the scale of one thougjh five, I would give it an five.

Rating: Summary: Forged By Fire Review: My book was heart-breaking. The main character, Gerald, was living with his Aunt Queen after the state took him away from his mom for leaving him in the house alone. Then after he lives with his aunt for awhile his mom, Monique, comes back to see him on his 9th birthday. While his mom was visiting, his Aunt Queen died, and Gerald had to go live with his mom, his mom's boyfriend, and his little sister. And he doesn't like it one bit. Now Gerald's life is miserable. His mom's boyfriend, Jordan, is always beating on all of them. And he also rapes his daughter Angel at nighttime when everyone goes to sleep. And Gerald is just tired of it. So he and his little sister told Gerald's best-friend's father and he told the police. Jordan went to jail for awhile and got right back out. Then when he got out he came back to live with them. At first he was doing good but after awhile he started doing the same thing again. Gerald just couldn't take it anymore. And his best-friend had just died so things were really rough for him. People who might be interested in reading this book are any younger teenagers who have experienced physically abusive households, been taken away from their household by the state, or experienced sexual abuse. This book deals with these issues. This book can also help you understand what some teenagers have to go through. Even though the book may make you feel sad, it has a satisfying ending. I recommend this book because it was a good book, and it described the everyday life of some teenagers. I give my book five stars.
