Rating: Summary: My favorite book Review: I'm just a kid. I don't like books very much. Except this one. This book caught my attention just by reading the first couple pages....which usually doesn't happen to me. After i started to read those first couple of pages i couldn't take my eyes off of the pages and i even skipped dinner. This book took so many turns that i couldn't believe what was going on. Every turn that the book took.....i got that much deeper into the reading. And after i finished it one night while my family was reading it i said "darn, its over."
Rating: Summary: way better than i expected Review: i bought this book becoz' i needed to do a book report on any book, i chose it coz the cover looked nice and that cornelia funke seemed like a very good author...then when i started reading it i couldnt let go of it, i kinda became addicted of this book. And i was so amazed that i didnt have to throw this book away after i made my book report, becoz' i loved the thief lord, cornelia funke made the characters alive in my imagination whenever i read a page of it, and the she really chose a good setting -venice, italy because she kinda knew that it was a place of a good hide-out for the children. Its kinda like a Robin Hood story where Scipio steals for his friends. So i recommend this book for all ages ... its one of the best books i read!
Rating: Summary: Good book but not the best Review: The Thief Lord is a good book. Very exciting, there is no lull in the action or plot. The setting is perfect for the story and is portrayed perfectly. The story is predictable and the ending a bit choppy, but the Thief Lord is a good read.
Rating: Summary: The Thief Lord Review: The Theif lord is an exciting adventure about the ties of brotherhood and how it can make you go to the ends of the Earth. It's impressive description thourghly depicts the setting The Dather brothers traveled from Hamburg, Germany to Venice Italy. They traveled all that way to see the ity that their late mother talked about as if it were a fairy tale. They also ran away to escape their Aunt Esther who only wishes to adopt the younger son, Boniface. When the bothers reach Venice they meet Mosca, Hornet, Riccio, and Scipio other runaways just like themselves. Scipio the Thief Lord takes care of the runaways while they live in the rundown movie theater. While Prosper, Scipio, Mosca, and Riccio are on their last hiest Bo and Hornet go missing. Just how far will Prosper go to get his brother back? Prosper the main character who is twelve years old takes care of Bo and acts as if he is an adult. He finds that he doesn't wish to grow up too fast even though he can't do anything when he is young. Because Prop took care of his younger brother for more than a month, he bacame very mature. Two amazingly nice people who are still in touch with their inner child saved his childhood from disappearing forever. Bo who is also a main charater is a mere five years old. He ran away with his older brother. He was forced to grow up and learn how to pick pokets. His brother frowned down upon stealing, but it was their only way to survive.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as I expected but not too bad Review: I expected a better secret for Scipio then him being the son of a rich man. It was all too easy to figure out after that. And it was slow going. On the back of the book, it says how charming the Thief Lord was, but I never found him remotely charming. He was likable enough, but I was hoping for a little more flair. The author spend too much time writing descriptions then developing characters. I also wish that the backgrouds of the other characters had been explored instead of just talked about slightly in passing. For example, why did Hornet run away? Or why did Victor feel so much sympathy towards the gang? these are constantly hinted at but never resolved. Plus the ending left that was yet to be resolved like what happens to Scipio after he becomes a detetive? etc. I wish there was another book about them so that I could learn more. Oh well. I still suggest you read it for it is still a good read for children and adults alike. Most of the characters are very believeable and likeable even if they are not developed much. Venice sounds like an exciting and beautiful place, and I hope to visit there someday. That would be really cool if in is anything like it is described in this book. Happy reading!
Rating: Summary: A Magical Trip Through Venice Review: The Thief Lord begins as a story about two orphans (Prosper and Bo) running away from an aunt who wishes to adopt only Bo. Not wishing to be separated, they flee to Venice, the fairyland of their mother's stories. They are soon befriended by a group of children--Hornet, Mosca, Riccio and Scipio, the Thief Lord. The Thief Lord robs from wealthy homes and passes the goods to the other children who fence them to provide food and other necessities. At first, the book, though delightful, is rather predictable. Predictable in that I could tell what the "surprise" would be, though I wasn't sure how it would all tie together. Graceful writing and endearing characters kept me negligent of the fact that I "knew" how it would end. However, about a third through the book, that surprise came and went and there were still a couple hundred pages left to go. From that point, the book begins a strangely magical journey that left me nearly breathless as the loose ends tied themselves into knots beyond my imagination. Sure, everything came together for the traditional happy ending, but. . . The getting there was the fun part. The Thief Lord gets a 5 out of 5 for some of the best children's literature I've read for some time.
Rating: Summary: The Thief Lord Review: The Thief Lord by: Cornelia Funke is a clever and enchanting book. The characters are likeable and the plot is a good one. It's about two brother's who run away to Venice from there witchlike aunt who wants to adopt one of the brother's and take the other to a children's home. The brothers meet a gang of street kids that take them in. The leader is the Thief Lord who "steals" valuble items and has a mysterious secret. This book starts of a little slow but as you get farther into the book it is exiting and you want to read more. This is a good read that I highly recommend.
Rating: Summary: Exciting Read Review: This book has an amazing plot. My friends told me to read the book, but i was reluctant. After many late night readings i was finished. Prosper and Bo are two children stuck in the streets of venice. After a mysterious man named the Thief Lord takes the boys in all seems to be going well. The biggest hiest in history is about to take place, when the boy's rich aunt comes looking for them. Will the boys escape their aunt and find out who the Thief Lord really is? Read The Thief Lord to find out.
Rating: Summary: Briliance, Pure and Simple. Review: The Thief Lord is an enchanting tale of five runaway orphans who, with the help of their friend Scipio the "Thief Lord", end up living in the Stella theatre. I myself have always found books set in the United States to be rather... well, boring. Every one of my favorite books and comics are set outside of the U.S. For instance, Inuyasha, set in Feudal Japan, Planet Janet and Harry Potter, set in Britan, and, of course, The Thief Lord, set in Italy. Recently I have become rather picky about what I read, and have found that there are few books that really grab my attention. This book is the first in months that really grabbed me. I really felt as though I were a part of the events, as Cornelia Funke does an excellent job of painting a vivid picture in the reader's mind. I have read many adult books, classics, childrens books, and teens books alike. This book is easily one of the best I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: The Thief Lord Review: The Thief Lord by:Cornelia Funke is a overall pretty good and well written book. I was prepared for a book that you can't put down and is addictive. The Thief Lord is almost like that. If you have to say the this book is good or bad I would say good. I nearly could say I loved it and I'm sure you'll say the same. To put it in short, I think you should buy this book.
