Summary: The Thief Lord
Review: This is a great book for readers of all ages. The main characters, two runaways, are as loveable as their aunt is awful. The only reason they ran away was because their aunt would only take in one of the two brothers when their parents died. They run away to the magical city of Venice and discover something that might solve their parental problem forever.

Summary: Good, easy read, with a very good story
Review: The Thief Lord is a very interesting book, the story of a band of orphans who join together and act as sort of a family. They live in an abandoned movie theater and their leader Scipio, also called The Thief Lord brings them the loot from his latest raid. All of the children are 13 and younger, so this book is great for kids anywhere from 10-13 years old, depending on their reading level. The plot was relatively simple, but enjoyable; I always wanted to find out where the characters were going next. The setting in Venice makes it even more interesting because of the canals and alleys for the children to explore.I reccomend this book to anyone who has an adventurous mind or is just looking for a good, quick read that will entertain them throughout.

Summary: Not just for kids
Review: As a thirty-something bookworm who enjoyed the Harry Potter books I've been making an effort to add more young novels (classics and new stuff) to my reading list. I'm so glad I chose this one. You'll be dreaming of Venice by the end of the frst chapter. It is simply enchanting.

Summary: Read this
Review: If I were an author (in my fondest dreams) I would despise it if a reviewer compared my book to Harry Potter. First, I don't like it Harry Potter beyond a cute quick read, and second, it's degrading and almost rude. "Your book is cute," it seems to say, "kind of like this Potter series." It's like Arachne getting so mad because everyone compared her to Athene, except this Athene--Harry Potter--is no master. I would hope that my book would be more than a hit series. I would never let my publisher print a review comparing it to HP anywhere on the book.

Aside, I enjoy THE THIEF LORD, but wish I could read it in its original language.

Summary: MAN, THIS BOOK ROCKED!!!!!
Review: I got this as an early Christmas present and it didn't look like much but once I finished the book I loved it!!!This book is about Prosper and Bo who run away to Venice, Italy and meet up with a street gang. I don't want to give toooooo much of the book away, but I still have some more to explain. There are great vivid verbs, adjectives to make you SEE what's happening in the book and an exciting, thrilling, fun and unpredictable storyline. I was soooo amazed when I read this book I just couldn't believe this came out of someone's brain. Cornelia Funke is a GENIUS!!!

Summary: Amazing

Summary: Enchanting
Review: ... Scrappy and smart the center of the book focuses on Prosper and Bo, two orphaned brothers who have fled from the clutches of their Aunt and Uncle who want to adopt the younger and send the older away to boarding school. They run across the path of a master thief named Scipio who brings them to an abandoned movie theatre where they fall in a with a mix of other youngsters like themselves. The story that unfolds has mystery and suspense, and a little magic thrown in for good measure. What makes the book so great is like the Potter books it doesn't cater to younger readers, but just presents the story, so it really has a universal appeal with lots of varied characters both in color and gender. Add to that the magical backdrop of Venice, the city on the water,it makes for a enchanting read.

Summary: One of the most well written books in the world!
Review: This book is a heartwarming and exciting story. It is very well written, and makes you want to read more.

Summary: A Great Read
Review: The Thief Lord was wonderful book! I have only a small bit of criticism. I though the characters weren't described that well. The only thing that the author seemed intent on describing fully was the city of Venice, which she did, superbly. The fantasy/magic component emerged far to late in the book. Also, the moral at the end of the story is a fascinating one which really makes you think, but not enough of the story leads up to it. It comes very suddenly. I read this book after hearing it compared to Harry Potter. I found the two to be very different. This book is well worth reading, but if you are looking for more fantasy/magic type book(s) read Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings ( and other books related to it by J.R.R. Tolkein including The Hobbit, etc.), and His Dark Materials.

Summary: A stunning fantasy
Review: This book certainly caught my attention with it's plot. It all starts out with two boys, Prosper and Bo who try and make a new home in Venice, Italy, after their mother dies. They soon settle down with a small community of orphans in an movie theater, living off of the money their leader brings home after his burglaries. Prosper, one of the orphans, is a calm, caring child of 12, looking after his enthusiastic, 5 year old brother Bo. As they live their live in Venice , they must face Victor, the detective that their aunt hired after Bo ran away from her. They also must stand in fear that one day their whole way of life will be exposed to the rest of the world, or at least that is how I felt because their is always tension in the book from all the children trying to keep them selves from reality.
As I said earlier, this book really caught my attention, with it's plot. It showed a way of writing I had never experienced before, a way of using 3rd person and past tense to show thoughts of 10 people at once, and I have to say this unique method is quite clever and that it puts very defined attributes into the character. The reason why I like it so much is that it shows the emotion very well. It has a very good way of making it so there is much detail and description throughout the book.
