Rating: Summary: An interesting read! Review: I first learned about this book last December 2002 and decided to buy it on December 23, 2002. After reading the first two chapters I was already hooked up. The story was great! Just like Harry Potter and the Wind of Fire Trilogy, it has breathless adventures and a nice plot.
Rating: Summary: Derivative Review: "The Thief Lord" wouldn't be at the top of my list of the best young adult books. Cornelia Funke, the author, had little to offer that was worthwhile. I wouldn't recommend this.
Rating: Summary: Starts a little slow but worth it Review: I read The Thief Lord because my mother recommended it. The Thief Lord is about 2 orphans who run away to Venice, Italy. They have a lot of adventures and they live on the money that they steal. I thought the book was great because it was exciting and you never know what's going to happen next. I couldn't put it down. As good as the Harry Potter series.
Rating: Summary: Hurrah for the Theif Lord!! Review: I read to my children (11 and 8). I have been frustrated by [some of the more publicized] and similar books because they give my children nightmares. The Theif Lord story is captivating without the nightmare inspiring darkness. It is fun to read and children love it. One complaint - my children would beg me every night to read "one more chapter". Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Amazing! Review: This is a wonderful and enlightening story, the first I have read by Cornelia Funke. I enjoyed reading about Venice as I had visited the enchanting city before. I was thoroughly impressed and look forward to reading her other books!
Rating: Summary: A pretty good book Review: The Thief Lord was a very interesting and entertaining book. I was easily drawn into it and into the plot. I liked the characters, epecially the Thief Lord himself. But there were still some problems with this book.I never seemed to really get to know the characters. I never felt like I understood them and felt what they were feeling. Actually, I never really knew what they were feeling! The author didn't often tell us what a character was thinking. This would have been hard, since the book isn't from any certain characters point of view. It just seems to be looking at all the characters, so there's no main character. I never knew what anyone was thinking or feeling, that would have made me feel into the book more. The plot was great. It kept you guessing and turning pages fast. I loved the setting and got a real feel for Venice. Another disappointment: there wasn't any romance! There definitely should have been some between the two adults at the end, but it never even hinted that there would be. It would have made it more interesting if there had been. I liked the realationships between the characters. Prosper and Bo seem that they truly care for each other. Scipio is understandable, and I get what he did and why. My favorite character was Victor. He was kind and I felt like I understood his feelings and thoughts the best. Overall, this was a great book. I recommend it to anyone, even though it has a few low points.
Rating: Summary: Hooking me till the end............... Review: I actually read Cornelia Funke's book in its original language, German. I have read a couple of Funke's books, but 'The Thief Lord'is by far my fav. It has an interesting start, and is full of unexpected twists. The ending suprised me, but pleasantly. The book made me think about my childhood(even though it's not over yet) and made me think about 'growing up' so fast. I truly recomend this book.
Rating: Summary: Enchantingly Delightful Book for All! Review: The story of two runaway boys who meet up with a street gang in Venice, Italy, becomes a mystery woven into the setting of canals and alleys against a backdrop of charming "old world" Venice. Beautiful narrative style with images of majesty and beauty as the reader is drawn into the loveliness of the city. Exciting and interesting read for young people. Rating: Summary: The Thief Lord Review: I bought this book for my grandson, but picked it up and read it myself. I loved it!
Rating: Summary: Wow Review: This book has a good plot that will constantly keep you wondering what will happen next. The descriptions of Venice are vivid, and detailed. It gets good right from the beginning. This book looks long, but once your done you'll wish it was longer. The Theif Lord is definitely worth your time to read it and money to buy it. It's also still good when you want to reread it.
