Rating: Summary: Cornucopia Of The Imagination Review: A masterpiece that I have had the privilege of coming across has been constructed to engage the mind in a whirlwind of creativity. If the pages of this book covered the walls of an empty room, I would not come out. Not only are the pictures brilliant and fascinating, but they also banish writer's block from existence. I recommend this book for all people, no matter who you are. The only boundaries that come along with this book are the ones set by the reader's imagination. The Mysteries Of Harris Burdick seem as if they were birthed from the depths of a truly unique and wonderful phenomenon. Anyone and everyone should experience this for themselves.
Rating: Summary: Stories for the Imagination Review: The Mysteries of Harris Burdick is an intriguing book that captures the mind of any viewer. The black and white pictures and short captions at the bottom of each picture make the mind wonder to far off places. Each picture depicts any number of situations that the imagination is allowed to create. Small children may take pleasure from looking at the pictures, but people of any age can enjoy the mind boggling experience from the book. The pictures can be used as a teaching aide to children in elementary and high schools alike. No matter what age you are, The Mysteries of Harris Burdick is well worth the effort.
Rating: Summary: The art of the understatement used to it¿s full potential Review: The Mysteries of Harris Burdick has the ability to capture a child's or an adult's imagination. The pictures were beautifully done, and the captions are just enough to inspire, but not take control of the story. I think that Chris van Allsburg was the greatest children's author of the twentieth century.
Rating: Summary: Harris Burdick Mysteries Review: The book, The Mysteries of Harris Burdick, is a great book. It sparks you imagination to get going. You just sit there and look at the pictures and stories pop in you head. One of my high school teachers use this book and think it is a great piece of material to get you students to think creatively. This book is not just for young kids, it is good for people my age. I think all teachers that deal with English teaching or any writing classes should use this. If you are a top._ looking for a good book, by this one. Chris Van Allsburg is a great writer, he just does not make books suitable for young kids it is good for adults, too.
Rating: Summary: Harris Burdick Mysteries Review: The Harris Burdick Mysteries are the best things I've had to work with in a long time. It's been awhile since I last wrote a story that I really got into, and this was the perfect thing I needed to spark new ideas for my own stories. I really think everyone, no matter how old, should at least read one of these mysteries. I guarantee you'll enjoy them.
Rating: Summary: The Mysteries of Harris Burdick Review: The Mysteries of Harris Burdick must be the most unique and interesting book that I have ever seen. When I was in 3rd grade, my teacher had everyone write a story for a picture every week. It was so fun. I think that this book should be used in all schools. It's great to look at and to imagine what is really happening for each page. Everyone should go out and buy this. It's eerie, yet intriguing. Great job!
Rating: Summary: Not exclusively for young minds Review: I first encountered Harris Burdick and his mysteries when I was in my twenties. Those illustrations with their intriguing captions are just as magical for me as they are for six-year olds. As a writer, they have filled me with inspiration and story ideas. I bought the folio edition (which is not longer available) and I have had some of the prints framed, and they now hang on my wall. This book is appropriate for people of all ages, although children, writers, and teachers will probably get the most from it.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book for imaginative minds both young and old Review: This is the most unique children's book I have ever seen. I am fascinated by the creativity and imagination that this book is able to bring out in young students. The book is amazing in its simplicity. You get a picture and a caption. Each page can be used as a story starter, and children will love the opportunity to create a story that goes with each picture. The results are amazing. If you are a teacher, your students will love this book, no matter what age they are.
Rating: Summary: A Tool for the Imagination Review: The Mysteries of Harris Burdick is a creative approach to a young adult book that I have never wittnessed before. He incorporates within the book's content a letter at the beginning professing that he found the photos and does not know their origin. This creative approach disattaches the author from the material so the reader has this sense that they have fallen upon a mystery, a magical new world, of some unknown artist. I plan to be a teacher, and I can see this book being a great tool to start creative writing assignments. As one opens the book, they see picture after picture of scenes that boggle the mind and defy normal reality. It is a fresh approach to the imagination and sharpens the mind.
Rating: Summary: This a great and interesting book! Review: I have been writing stories for these illistrations since I was in 4th grade (a requierment for school) and this year it is on "Another Place, Another time". It must be the best story I ever wrote! Thank you Chris Van Allsburg and Harris Burdick!!
