Rating: Summary: A clever, engrossing novel. Review: Tammy's heroines just keep getting better and better, and in my opinion Aly is her most likeable protagonist to date. Aly (short for Alianne) lets little faze her, especially for a young woman who is kidnapped, sold into slavery, and ends up protecting her slavers to fulfill a bargain with a god. As is the case with Pierce, most of her characters are not black-and-white, good and evil; Aly's slavers, for example, turn out to be a very generous and kind family. Trickster's Choice is chock full of adventure, danger, and fascinating characters, among which is a very UNUSUAL young man in whom Aly finds her romantic interest. Let's just say the circumstances are very unique and amused me to no end. Hats off to Pierce for pulling off such an unusual romance. Pierce's quick humor and flair for action are abound in this worthy new installment in the world of Tortall; her heroines are to be celebrated.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Books A Bookworm has ever read! Review: This book is so incredibly intriguing that you literaly feel like a scene is taking place in front of you. I would recommend this book for middle schoolers and high schoolers. one of the best or the best book Tamora Pierce has ever written. It is an absolute must read for any book worm.
Rating: Summary: my introduction to Tortall Review: A new reader of Tamora Pierce's books, I got this one out of the library. It was my first venture into her Tortall novels and although it took me a little while to become familiar with that world, I found myself spellbound after the first few pages. The heroine is believable, capable and clever, but also vulnerable. The other characters have depth and personality and the author writes about them in such a way as to make you really care what happens to them. The writing is sure-handed and the plot is very engaging with quite a bit of political intrigue. I don't care for books with a lot of violence or sex in them; Trickster's Choice was gripping without those elements. I was disappointed when it was over. After I finished Trickster's Choice I went back to read her other Tortall books but didn't find them up to the quality of this one with the possible exception of the Protector of the Small series. Well worth the read. I look forward to the next book.
Rating: Summary: Not Yet Completed This Book. Review: I am so bored by this book; it is just so hard for me to pick it up. I have read other books by Tamora Pierce, ok only the Alanna series, but I thought that series was really amazing. When I saw this one and found out that it was Alanna's daughter I was so excited. I started reading to a pretty good conflict. Then I am completely bored by the constant dragging on about the story. I keep hoping something exciting is going to happen but it doesn't seem to ever happen. I guess it's your choice if you want to get this book or not. Looking at the other reviews I see a lot of them really liked the book. In my opinion it was one of the worst I have ever read so far.
Rating: Summary: Another Pierce Masterpiece Review: Being an avid reader of Pierce's books for years, I was not disappointed with this wonderful installment in her newest series. Writing with her unique flair and description, Alliane grows into a real person instead of just a character in a book. I have always related to Alanna and Daine, leading ladies in Pierce's earlier series, and I missed not hearing more about their lives. I loved that this book not only wove an enchanting tale of Aly as a maturing young lady and spy, Pierce gave you more details about how Alanna and Daine were faring than were put in Kel's series. She brought the four women together so you had a better perspective on how the kingdom of Tortall was handling the amazingly strong emergence of women as a leading power. In addition to that, Aly has inherited the wit and charm of George and the strength of Alanna, her parents. Her story takes place mostly as a slave to a kind family who thinks her a messenger of a great god, when Aly is really serving Kyprioth, the Trickster god. She aids her skills and knowledge to keep the family safe from harm, but not all grief is avoided. Pierce has yet again managed to create a realistic heroine coupled with adventure, romance, and heartbreak that will leave you leaping for more. You will not be able to put this down!
Rating: Summary: Excellent writing, boring (and annoying) characters Review: Don't get me wrong- I love Tamora Pierce, and I have read her books about Daine, Keladry, and Alanna countless times. However, this book was a let down. The book centers around Ali, the daughter of Alanna and George. Ali has lived a rather sheltered and protected life until she is kidnapped by pirates and taken to the Emerald Isle where she if sold as a slave. As if this isn't enought trouble, Ali's masters are forced to go into exhile, and take her along as a God tells them that Ali will help them. Togethor, Ali and her masters move to a crude castle in the middle of the jungle where they are forced to fight off assasins, and make peace with the minorities. Ali becomes a trusted companion to her masters, and helps save them multiple times. As this book is part of a two-book series, not much of the conflict is resolved by the end of the book. Things I disliked: 1- Ali is a Mary Sue (a female character who is perfect). She is good at everything she undertakes, and really has no failings. This makes her a boring character. It is the flaws that can make a character interesting. 2- Nawat, so it seems, is going to be Ali's love interest. This would be fine, except for the fact that Nawat is a crow-turned man and retains his bird brain in human form. So, about every sentence out of his mouth is "Let's have nestlings and mob them!" In short, he is Tamora Pierce's equivolent to Jar Jar Binks. There really can be no salvaging of this character. Things I liked 1- This books focuses on politics, instead of the usual action. Pierce claimed that she tried to model a lot of the court and politics on Tudor England, and you can tell. Because the emphasis of this book was on politics, it made the story more complicated (in a good way), and it added a new level of intrigue. 2- The time before Nawat came. This book was fairly decent in the begining. Ali's Mary Sue tendencies hadn't really appeared yet and the evil Nawat hadn't entered the scene. In short, this was an OK book, and I probably would have given it a four, if Nawat hadn't showed up. If you've never read a Tamora Pierce book anymore and you figure you might as well read her latest first, I would strongly urge you not to. Pierce is a great author with a lot of talent, as can be exemplified in her earlier series (particularly The Immortals quartet).
Rating: Summary: Can It Get Any Better? Review: I have read all of Tamora Pierce's novels about Alanna, Daine, and Kel. All have been extraordinary and this book was no exception. I read each page breathlessly and carefully not wanting to miss anything this spectacular book offered. There are mentions of previous characters to let you know how they are, but this is undoubtedly Alianne's story, and a wonderful story it is. As in the other books this one has the perfect amount of intrigue, magic, strong female leads, and romance. If you think that this book won't hold up to the others and are afraid to read it, don't be. This one is just as perfect as the others and a valuable addition to the Pierce library. I can't wait until Trickster's Queen comes out in September as I am sure it will be just as terrific.
Rating: Summary: Maybe even better than Alanna... Review: Here i am, reading this book, and suddenly i realize somthing. Aly might, i only said might, be an even more interesting charecter than Alanna. if you've read alanna's books, you'll know she's hard to beat, but trickster's choice might have done it. i highly suggest this books. PS I'm going to die if september doesn't come soon, i want tricksters queen!
Rating: Summary: The best of her books yet. Review: I personally consider this to be Tamora Pierce's best book yet. Her writing style has really matured into something beautiful. I wasn't just in love with the story in this one, I loved the way it was told to. And this character was very original and human, especially after the Protector of the Small series. It's just a very new, wonderful step for Pierce and I enjoyed it immensely I recommend it for every fantasy fan.
Rating: Summary: review of trickster's choice Review: The book is about this girl named Alianne. She wants to be a spy like her dad, but her mom doesn't want her to follow the steps of her dad because she said that her dad is unique. This book is really interesting because it talks about this girl that talked to godesses, she made deals with them and she followed her dreams. She had many adventures and we can see that she did what her dreams told her to do. I would recommend this book to those people who like stories with a lot of adventure and imagination, it's really interesting and fun book!!!!!!
