Rating: Summary: Great! Review: I loved this book, and most of the people whe said it was bad were too young to understand the politics and complexity of this book. though it is not the best of the tortall series, it is still another one of tamora pierce's masterpieces and I CAN'T WAIT FOR TRICKSTERS QUEEN!
Rating: Summary: Different, but better! Review: After I read all the other Tortall books, I wanted to read another great book by Tamora Pierce. When Alianne (Aly) of Pirate's Swoop is forbidden by her father, George Copper, and mother, Alanna the Lioness, to become a spy, she goes on a visit. Befor she gets to her target, she is captured and made a slave (you can see the collar on the cover) in the Copper Isles. After she is sold, a god visits her and makes a deal. If she can keep her master's children alive for the summer, the god will transport her home. Aly works hard to meet her end of the deal. Different from the other Tortall books, I think this one is the best.
Rating: Summary: A New Beginning for Aly and Tortall Review: Trickster's Choice is another sucess for Tamora Pierce. Aly is a strong character who uses her brains more than brawn. Aly with the help of both magic and friends is able to accomplish the challanges she is presented with.
Tricksters Choice continues on the tradition of "sheros" and is just as enjoyable as the predecessors.
Rating: Summary: Trickster's Choice Book Review Review: This book is a fast-paced adventure that tells the story of a young rebellious girl named Alianne who ran away in order to make her parents pay more attention to her. When she ran away, she was captured by the coastline by pirates, who sold her as a slave. She did not cooperate with her captors, and was given to the Balitang family for free.
There she became a well respected part of the household and uncovered some of the family's deadliest secrets. She maintained these secrets and her loyalty to the family while keeping some secrets of her own, and trying to escape.
The god ruling over the Copper Isles, the location of the Balitang family, made a wager with Ali that she couldn't refuse. In order to win this wager, she would need to stay in slavery to the Balitangs for the remainder of the summer.
This proved to be a much harder task than she expected.
Rating: Summary: Trickster's Choice Review: I have to admit, I was slightly worried about another Tortallan series. You can probably imagine the thoughts that were going through my mind--what if Alanna dies, what if Tamora Pierce has lost her style, what if, what if...and so on. I was certainly not disappointed--if anything, it was almost too good--with Trickster's Choice, the first in the Daughter of the Lioness duet.
Alianne of Pirate's Swoop--called Aly by her family and friends--is surrounded by legends. Her mother is the famed Alanna; her father is Spymaster in Tortall. Her adoptive family members include Daine the wildmage and Numair, the most powerful mage in Tortall. Her family thinks that that she will never find her calling--but Aly knows she already has. She wants to be a spy, but her parents simply will not agree. Captured by pirates on a sail, Aly is enslaved in the Copper Isles, and here her skills as a spy come in handy. The Trickster God, Kyprioth, has a plan for the cruel luarins who have invaded the Isles and overset the raka female leaders, and Aly is included in it. But to survive, Aly will have to find out the secrets in the house she serves as well as form alliances with the raka servants. Will she be able to succeed--and survive--in her wager with the tricky god? Will she be able to go home after the summer's done?
Pierce has once again woven a fascinating tale with a wonderful new heroine. With just the slight spice of romance, the usual suspense, and a delicate but well-spun plot, this book has all the appeal of Pierce's others.
Rating: Summary: My choice Review: As a kid I've always loved reading about sci-fi/fantasy genres and by far this is one of my favorite books. In Trickster's Choice, Tamora Pierce invites the reader to Tortall and captivates the reader's interest by describing the adventures of Aly. Pierce deffinitely has a unique style in writing that is outstanding and they way she illustrates her storyline through writing is truly enchanting. I also love how she hinted a bit of romance in the plot as well, which in my opinion added an extra spice to her storyline. I would definitely enjoy reading this book over again.
Rating: Summary: First visit to Tortall, not my last! Review: As an avid reader of fantasy, even as a kid, I never knew Tamora Pierce existed. I discovered her while at the local library searching for books the girls in my class might enjoy. Pierce's characters (both male and female) have flaws, but they are strong, smart, brave, and believable. Yes, some of the subject matter might be a bit mature, with the talk of "bedding" and "mating" but I think that the less mature readers will ignore it and the more mature readers will understand that in the times Pierce's books are based on (Tudor England) that is what young girls were dealing with. I look forward to reading Pierce's other works not only to recommend to my students, but for my enjoyment as well.
Rating: Summary: Not the best Review: Here's the basic storyline. Aly, a teenager, lives in Tortall with her knight/mage mother and her father who is a spy for the king. She becomes involved in a God's plan to bring down the Lurian kings and replace them with a raka queen. Aly is placed right in the crossfire, acting as the God's interpretor.
Personally, I did not think this was one of Tamora Pierce's greatest books. It was a little too predictable and there was not much action. I belive that her series "Protector of the Small" was quite a bit better. However, this book did have some well-developed characters and many details.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't take it anymore Review: This is the first book I have read by Tamora Pierce, but let me assure you, it will not be my last. Though I am still 40 or so pages away from completing this book, I couldn't restrain myself any longer from gushing about what a wonderful novel it is! I wouldn't mind reading 10 books like this one, with its lush descriptions of the land and wonderful wording, and strong, independent female characters. I was a little nervous about this book when I first picked it up, figuring that it might be too heavy a dose of fantasy for me, but I am so glad I gave it a chance! I will definitely read this book's sequel (Trickster's Queen), because I find that as I am nearing the end of this book, at times I just have to set it down and take a break from it, because I simply don't want it to end! Definitely give this book a try, even if you are not really into the fantasy genre. This book has something for everyone, including mythological creatures, great descriptions, fully developed characters, a touch of romance, humor, and adventure that will take hold of you and make you want to continue reading. The best part of the book is seeing how cunning Aly (the main character) truly is!
Rating: Summary: Yet another wonderful tale of Tortall Review: Aly is the child of famous parents, her mother is a knight and kings champion, her father is one of the Spy masters for of the Tortall intelligence service. Aly while good with weapons wants nothing more than to be a spy like her father. Her parents are dead set against this. While sailing her little boat Aly is captured by Slavers and sold in the Copper Islands to an out of favor family with royal connections. Aly soon learns that it was more than fate that landed her in this mess. The native people of the Islands are ready to rebel, but they are waiting for a twice royal queen foretold to them in a prophecy by the Trickster God whom they worship. A queen who will be added by the strong one, the wise one the warrior and the cunning one. Ms. Pierce has created yet another tale of a strong young woman who finds her own place in the world and all her wonderful adventures.
