Rating: Summary: Recommended!!!!!! Review: I would recommend this book to everyone from various backrounds. This book satrted off with Callie in her treatment center, Sea Pines. She refused to speak, in anguish that she was there, with all the "crazy" people. Throughout this book you see her progress and setbacks and you realize the only way to stop, is to want to stop and help yourself. She realizes that although there are many sharp things in the world, she can't view them as weapons. I would also recommend The Luckiest Girl In The World, although I found this book better. It doesn't just reach into the world of self destruction, but she Callie becomes friends with many other people in her treatment center, such as people with eating disorders. This chilling book would get 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: Great Book for Teens, and I Must Sometimes Censor! Review: I work in a school and sometimes read and evaluate acceptability of controversial materials for our library. I just know that this book will be a hit with many of our students. It is very well written, and I believe the author's descriptions are very tastefully done. Teens need to read materials that deal with topics that are real. This book does that, and more. I loved my immersion in Callie's progression through treatment, and I thought the issues of her peers were fascinating. An added bonus were the reviews written by so many teens who, like Callie, were themselves cutters. It seems like some missed the point. Others saw this book as a type of quasi-therapy. Still others just liked it because it held their interest. In any case, I do believe and hope that this book will captivate young readers just as it already has, and just as it did for me. It will definitely go into our school library!
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good. Review: I thought that Cut was very interesting and creative at the beggining. It was kind of slow in the middle and the ending couldve been better. Overall it was a good book, but it lacked creativity. Being a self-injurer myself i could closely relate to maney of the events in the book. i thought the plot was good...and the characters were colorful, but ive read better.
Rating: Summary: A cutting review! Review: I am reviewing the book "Cut". In my opinion, this book was cool, and I enjoyed reading it. I gave this book three stars for several reasons. In some areas of the book it would get boring and it wasn't as creative as it could of been. But under all that the story is good, and i incourage anybody to read this novel for the great plot and the bizzar twists that this little girl is facing in her life. But you should check this book out, its interesting.
Rating: Summary: Good.. Review: Cut was a rather good novel, being a self-injurer myself, I found this book interesting when I picked it up in the book store. It was a rather short novel, but very interesting right from the beginning. The characters were colourful and interesting. The only thing that I thought was odd, was that they never explained why she was cutting herself in the first place? Because her brother was sick a lot? That doesn't make too much sense. But still, this novel was excellent and I do recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Cut Review: I'm ... a semi-former self injurer and finished this book in one sitting, it was excellent. Some people would say "not for the weak of stomach" but it is. This book doesn't have gory details. Just things such as, she slid the the metal under her skin and felt a poke but..., things like that with more information on it. So if you are interested in reading about mental illness this would be a good starting book to build you up for... more bloody thing. It's not completly information packed but it has some good information on mental illness, therapy lessons, and insane asylums. Callie, like myself, is a self injurer. She doesn't speak but her therapist still hasn't given up. The part that I don't understand is that I am getting therapy for it not put into a mental institution. And her case didn't sound that bad compared to a new girl that came in. That was the one flaw in the book, other that I love this book and I would reccomend it for anyone.
Rating: Summary: Wow Review: This book was really terrificly written and great to read. I loved how discriptional it was and how mch information Itook from the book that went straight to my head and got m thinking. I can defently relat to some ofthis book and some of the charaters that really do make this book o terrific. The charaters in this book ae well draw out and gives picures in ur mind of not ony how they look bu their personalities too, i is hard fo me to belive that it is fiction beuas eof how real everything feels. This book, with it's intrestingcaracters, descriptions, and overall oddness, really makes me want to scream. . .WOW!
Rating: Summary: Cut Review: I am sixteen years old, and I just finished this book. At first it made me squemish, but after I read it a while i couldn't put it down. This book helped me understand what some people do instead of focusing on their problems. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Well... Review: I read this book in about 2 days and it was just alright. I thought that it had a good thing going but sometimes it just would stop. There were a lot of characters and sometimes it was hard to tell which was which. It did have a nice ending though it was definetly a teen angst book. I think this is more of a book for girls but some guys might like it. Over all it was just ok.
Rating: Summary: In the "Fiction" Category for a Reason: Review: I have to say, while I was unable to stop reading this book, it is trite from the opinion of a cutter. Most girls cut to release anger, to get a sense of "high." So, why is it that Callie has no problems? She's not in an abusive family, she'd not in a torrid love affair- what's there to cut about? She feels like her family doesn't want her?I don't think so. The plot begins in "Sick Minds" (a mental hospital otherwise known as Sea Pines though there's no sea or pines), Callie refuses to speak (Reminds me of the good novel "Speak-" almost identical given the fact that this reads like I wrote it.) and is threatened that she will be forced to leave if she doesn't cooperate. There is so little character development, you can predict the triteness from the time you begin the book: yet you can't pull away. From the beginning, it's as though Callie is carrying a heavy burden, but we never figure out WHAT. It gets annoying and you have to put it down. I think it is worth reading, it's very easy reading for a rainy day, and fun fiction. For real issues dealing with teen cutting, I'd look elsewhere. This simply isn't realistic.
