Rating: Summary: awesome Review: This book made me think... think alot. (and it made me feel like talking too) It was so... descriptive about everything! I could imagine what was going on right in my mind. It was like watching a movie... no.... it was like i was standing right there with her. Very cool!
Rating: Summary: CUT Review: I recently read "Cut", by Patricia McCormick. "Cut" is a well-written book, and I found it quite easy to relate to. The issues the characters deal with in "Cut" are issues young adults around the world face daily. Callie reminds me a little bit of myself. But she reminds me more of some of my friends, trying to make sense of the world they live in, and trying to cope with it in any way that they possibly can. (Page 3) " Then I placed the blade next to the skin on my palm. A tingle arched across my scalp. "The floor tipped up to me and my body spiraled away. Then I was on the ceiling looking down, waiting to see what would happen next. What happened next was that a perfect straight line of blood bloomed from under the edge of the blade. The line grew into a long, fat bubble, a lush crimson bubble that got bigger and bigger. I watched from above, waiting to see how big it would get before it burst. When it did I felt awesome. Satisfied, finally. Then exhausted." I believe the theme of "Cut" is that, every one has problems, and everyone deals with them in different ways, but no one can help you deal with your problems unless you allow them. I agree with the theme. I have problems and so does everybody I know. Sometimes I want to deal with a problem on my own and no matter how hard people try to help me it will never work unless I allow them to. I recommend "Cut" to young adults, and adults especially those who are parents. I recommend "Cut" to young adults, because they can easily relate to the characters in the story. I think Cut can help adults to understand what young adults deal with, and to possibly remind them of what they went through when they were Callie's age.
Rating: Summary: Yay Review: This book was well written and is an easy read. I just sat down and read it in an hour. S.T.'s story draws your attention so that you are continually wondering what is going to happen next. The story is based in a rehabilitation center named "Sea Pines" for young adults with "problems" (forgive me, lack of better word) such as: eating disorders, and cutting yourselve. There is a group of young women whom all relate to eachother in some way. It's an enlightening story about hope and conquering.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Novel.....It Changed My Life...Truly Review: I thought this novel was one of the greatest books I have ever read. I read an awful lot, and I don't think any book I've read yet can compare with this book. It really changed my life. When I got mad at myself or got sad or frustrated, I cut myself as well. Not enough to draw alot of blood, but just enough to make a deep sratch. After I read this book, I stopped doing this to myself. This book changed my life.....truly.
Rating: Summary: OK , not great Review: i read this book because i wanted to know that there were other people in the world who SI and what their lives are like. i didnt like this book, simply because i couldnt relate to it very much, this is not how i feel when i cut and i dont think its what other people who cut think either. I guessed it would be a good book and i was disappointed. The book itself is based in a psych ward, i gave it 2 stars because the experience the girl has in therapy is a good description of therapy on the whole (and i should know) but the actual SUBJECT of cutting never really comes into this book, and the author doesnt get the FEELING that you get when you SI across well, i know thats a really hard thing to do, especially if you dont SI like the author. i think that it gives the wrong idea about people who cut themselves overall, the author of this book doesnt SI and i think it shows, its not a bad book, its good to read if you just want a book to read, but as far as reading a book about self injury goes i would not recommend it, and if you are SI i dont think that this book is the best one to read, i guess this is the kind of book where the author has toned the issue down so it doesnt seem as bad so 9 year olds can read it and think they understand it, it doesnt work like that, at least for the people who do whatever the book is concerned with.
Rating: Summary: A little un-realistic Review: I recently bought this book, probably due to my own problem with self mutilation. I have to say that even though I did like this book, the end didn't leave me with any real answers because to me it just didn't seem realistic. Anyone who shares this problem, and who reads this book may realize that you just cant stop cutting as easily as the author made it for Callie. Although, maybe it was just me and I was looking for answers in the wrong book. Anyhow, this was a fairly good book, especially for someone who would like to read about a girl who is also into cutting. I would reccommend this book to my fellow self mutilators, but not if you are looking for answers.Personally, although I identified with Callie in so many ways,I still felt empty at the end.
Rating: Summary: "Cut" Review: Excellent book! Helped me help my Daughter and to understand her a lot more than I did before. My Husband also read it, which totally amazed me! Susan
Rating: Summary: Cut Review: Cut by Patricia McCormic is a very good book. i've never read her books before, but i think that i liked the book Cut. i dont like to read but i couldnt set this book down. This is about an older girl who likes to cut herself. She lives in a mental facility that tries to keep away metal objects. she meets other girls that also cut themselves. They are always looking for metal objects to cut her. The other girls also cut too. My teacher recommended it to me and i hate to read but i loved this one. I liked it so much because i was wondering whats was going to happen next, and when she was going to cut herself next. Now that i've read a book by Patricia McCormic, i really want to read more of her books. It really has changed the way i look at people.
Rating: Summary: Good Book, Lacks True Info Review: CUT is certainly a good book. it is one of those "teenage problem" books that you will, if you're 10-18, really actually enjoy reading. i really don't want to give the story away... all i can say is read it! only problem w/ this book is the main character Callie's self-mutilation problem is a little... well, not as believeable as I would have liked it to be. some people probably disagree with me, but Patricia McCormick has lacked deeper information on Callie's problem... almost a little bit unbelievable. although, i haven't really read books like this that are as much as I would expect (i myself have struggled with self-mutilation, and my feeling are certainly different from Callie in this book). Maybe i'm being a little too critical... not quite sure. anyway, to sum it up, CUT is a really good book. it lacks true information on cutting, so don't expect to get much out of that topic. but this is still a great book and i reccomend it to anyone who has the time to :D.
Rating: Summary: hello fellow cutters Review: ...Okay, I won't summarize the book, because you can see that above. I just would like to say that Cut is good for people who want to know about cutting. I also reccomended-don't care if that's spelled incorrectly either- it to someone who is struggling against cutting. Personally, I don't think I'll ever stop cutting, even if I read every book out there, I just like it too much, but if your aim is to stop cutting, the book will be okay. The first half won't help very much, it might even make you cut more, as I did, but the whole thing will help you understand why you cut. I have no serious family problems as does Callie, but you can still, paraphrasing a professional 'review-writer', "relate to Callie's struggles". Like it says above, five stars. :@ (pig)
