Rating: Summary: best book to cliff hanger Review: I thought that this book was really good it made me keep on reading it more than Lirael. It was amazing how 7 people could save the world from 1 really strong enemy. The only problem with the book was that it ended in a sort of cliff hanger. It left questions like what happened next in my mind. But besides for that I think this is a really good book that many people would enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Books Review: Garth Nix is a wonderful writer. I love his books, and I would for him to keep writing stories of the Old Kingdom, Lirael, sabriel, and Touchstone, more like it stories that continue to tell about this breath taking stories. I would love it.
Rating: Summary: GREAT Review: Ok, I know I'm probably the youngest person here, but who's counting? I read this book in about a day. I couldn't stop, my stomach was a foghorn shouting for food, but my mind wouldn't let it have some. I extremely like Garth Nix as an author. The gripping thing about him is that he's so original. In most books you will find elves, dwarfs, and goblins, but in this he has ventured into a realm that has never been explored in any of the fantasy books that I have read, death, and in doing so creates an entirely new realm of creatures and type of magics. All in all this is a very gripping and thrilling story that will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Also check out the rest of his books because, from what I've read, he doesn't want to do the same thing twice, and you never know what wierd fantasy world he'll come up with next time!!!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic on the second read Review: I loved Sabriel, was a bit ho hum about Lirael and to be honest was a little tepid about Abhorsen on the first read. On the second read though, I realised that it is fantastic and extremely gripping and suspenseful. A wonderful conclusion to the series although I have so many questions that I would love to have answered. What happens to Nick? What was the back story for Chlorr? What happens to Sameth and Lirael? Does the Old Kingdom ever regain its former glory or will it continue to sink into decline?????
Rating: Summary: Favorite Trilogy ever Review: Yes-it even beats out Tolkien's *Lord of the Rings* for me. I know that most of you will disagree with that statement, but I feel that in key ways, these books are better.Like character growth, or actually development-in LOTR, there is little to none. In these books, there is plenty. We really get to know Lirael, Sam, Mogget, and the Dog. I ESPECIALLY love Sam and Mogget. I pretty much just fell in love with Sam-he seems like he's really a cool person. But Mogget MIGHT just be my favorite of all, and I'm glad that Nix put him in the book a lot. He provides much of the comic relief in the book. In my opinion, this is MUCH easier to read, follow along with, and understand than LOTR. I really didn't want it to end! Don't get mr wrong-LOTR is something I will NEVER forget-Tolkien is TRULY amazing. But, sometimes he is a little hard to read, and I get distracted. Not so with Nix. Everything just flows together so...peacefully. If you're looking for something that you will never forget, and want to come back to again and again, than I think these are the books for you.
Rating: Summary: An amazing end to the trilogy - will there be more?? Review: Even though I am not the target audience for this book (I'm an adult) I was still on the edge of my seat, hoping that Sam and Lirael would make it in time to save Nicholas from Hedge and the evil powers he was about to unleash. That being said, I must admit that I was slightly disappointed in the ending because I felt that it was almost an anti-climax. Of course Lirael (along with her half-sister, Sabariel, and nephew Sam) saves the day, but Nix simply uses an epilogue to wrap up all the loose ends that are hanging out. In my opinion it doesn't answer any of our questions: Where will Sabriel go now? How badly were she and Sam hurt? What kind of life will she have with Sabriel; will they have any kind of relationship at all? Perhaps Nix intended for us to ask these questions (clearly life itself doesn't answer them freely) but it makes me wonder if he intends/ed to continue writing about Lirael. The first book of the trilogy, Sabriel, stands on its own as a novel. The second book, Lirael, is completely dependant on this one to finish up the story. I have the three books in one volume and it is clear that Sabriel's story is separate, although linked, to that of Lirael. This trilogy is an excellent one for girls and women of all ages, particularly for those who might be interested in Tolkien but are perhaps not ready for or interested in the often overwhelming fight scenes. This story focuses more on the magic abilities and the strength of its female protagonists, almost to the point of making the main male character (Sam) into a whimpering idiot. Full marks to a male author for giving us great female characters in an often male-dominated genre.
Rating: Summary: The wonderful world of an abhorsen Review: this was a really great book.it has a great level of suspense as garth nix mixes magic and fantasy into a really wonderful book. This book is about a young girl, a prince, and two animals,-the dog loyal the cat not- on a journey to save the world on both sides of the wall. Lireal of clayr and abhorson heritedge must use both sides of that heritedge to achieve their goal. All lireal ever wanted was the sight and a companion. Now she has both. But the sight she has does not SEE the future, but holds the mysterious secrets of the past. And now as they pass into unknown battle, they must use their wit, daring, gifts, and sheer hope to beat the unbeatable, only boundable, orannis. Number 9! oh. did i mention the slight draw back of having to find, and rescue prince sameth's ancelstierran friend nick from the evil power of orranis?
Rating: Summary: GGGGGGGGreat! Review: This book was a great ending to the triligy! I'd say that any teacher reading this review should put in for a class set!
Rating: Summary: Abhorsen Review: Even though I no longer fall in the catagory of young adult, I loved this trilogy. It's dark and facinating and the library that Nix created, one where librarians carry emergancy whistles and swords, just an awesome idea. Nobody thinks of libraries as dangerous places. Abhorsen picks up right where lirael stops (rather abruptly, I might add. Drove me nuts waiting for Abhorsen)and brings the story to a satisfactory conclusion. My favorite was Lirael, the Disreputable Dog was wonderful, and Mogget, well, I'll never look at my cat the same way again, and maybe it's just as well she can't talk. Every book was well written and original. I would definitly recommend these books to ANYONE who likes fantasy. Be sure to read them in order, you might be a bit confused if you don't.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ!!!! Review: Very well written!! I could not even put it down!!! It was truly worth my time.
