Summary: The First Book in the Among the ... Series
Review: This is basically a review of the entire series.
These books are fast-paced, exciting, and fun, if a bit predictable.
They are set in the future. The main line of all the stories is about population control. The world is overpopulated. A new law hopes to reduce the growth: More than two children are not allowed in a family. All third children will be killed.
This book is about a third child. He must spend his entire life in hiding because if he was ever seen, he would be killed.
These books are about the risks he takes and doesn't take. In Among the Impostors, for instance, he finally comes out of hiding and attends school under a false identity.
If you are looking for an interesting futuristic book to read, pick this up. It'll last you a long time because there are many books in the series, all of which are excellent.

Review: Among The Hidden

Among The Hidden was one of the best books I have ever read. Luke, the main character, is a third child and is against the population law that has been around for years and years. He meets another third child named Jen. This brave ten- year-old girl is teaching Luke the majority of what she already knows. To find out what happens next, you will have to read the book. Also, this book is probably the only book that I have read twice. Among The Hidden is filled with action and excitement. You should read this book because once you do, you will not even think about regretting it. Adding on, no matter how many times you read it, you will always find something new and interesting in all different parts of the book that you missed the first or second time. You will enjoy reading this fun filled, exciting book over and over again, no matter how many times you may choose to read it. Another reason that you should read this book is because the minute you start to read this book, it is like you are putting yourself right in the middle of the story. It feels so real. The best thing about the book is that you will never know what is going to happen next in the story even if you read it more than once. I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars because it is filled with detail and interesting parts that you can't get away from. Another thing is that it is filled with suspense. Also, once you start to read it, you can never seem to be able to put it down, even if you really want to. I hope you enjoy reading this book.

Review: Among The Hidden

This year I read an adventurous book. I liked this book for a lot of reasons because the adventures, the grabbers, and the action. The adventures of the book made me want to read more, the grabbers made me want to see what happened next and the action made me say I like this book. My opinion is if you are the type of person that likes action and adventures this book is the right one for you. There's a lot of suspense like when the boy broke into the house and found the third child, or when his dad was right there sitting next to him and he was trying to hide a big book about the law and they don't even have a book about it. The suspense in the book was great it made me want to read it more. Also, this kind of book will make you want to read more books, so if you want to know what I'm talking about read Among The Hidden!

Review: Among The Hidden

Do you like exciting adventurous books to read? Then this is the book for you. If you read this book then you should be aware of the sad but exciting ending that ends in great suspense. Get ready to tag along with two kids that are fighting for their rights to remain as a family. When you're still reading the book you will find that when the kids fight for their rights there will be some controversy, and many sad parts. This book is very mysterious because after every time you read a section in the book, you will be thinking of many things like will he be ok? or what's going to happen next? This book would allow you to make many interesting connections just like I did.

Summary: Among the Hidden
Review: Hidden his whole life, Luke knows almost nothing of the outside world. All he knows is that he is not supposed to exist, and if he is found, the consequences will be terrible. The truth is that he, like many others, must remain hidden because of the population laws. These rules restrict all households to no more than two children, supposedly in an effort to fix the food crisis and adapt to the constant famine. To make matters worse, the ever-controlling government has made its people believe that the illegal children can be tracked and hunted down any way imaginable, from watching television to touching a keyboard. For some of these shadow children, there is a way to live almost normal lives by escaping the system and taking on another identity. But Luke's family is poor and uneducated, and doesn't know that this option exists.
When the woods surrounding his secluded home are purchased and developed, Luke becomes vulnerable and at risk of discovery. It has become such a threat that Luke is not even permitted to leave his attic bedroom anymore. When he learns that another third child is his new neighbor, he manages to secretly meet her. But Jen is a different kind of shadow child. She is the daughter of a government agent and is exposed to the world that Luke isn't allowed to witness. She believes in something that Luke might not be able to accept. What if there never was a food shortage? What if the government was only seeking domination? But most important of all, what if it could change?
Among the Hidden is a captivating story of decisions and consequences that displays what could happen to any nation. The inward struggles of the characters are moving and believable, and the courage shown in an attempt to triumph over oppression is astounding. Margaret Haddix's first book in this series opens your mind to the possibility of an imperfect world. Appropriate for ages 10-13. --Paige Pettoruto

Summary: Among the Hidden
Review: Among the Hidden is about a boy named Luke. Luke wasn't any normal boy because he was a third child. A third child is someone who is not allowed to live because the government is scared of over populating and not having enough food. This forced Luke to hide in an attic and not be able to come out unless told to by his mother of father for dinner. He had nothing to do besides reading books, magazines, talking to himself, and sleeping. You would think that this would be a great day because you don't have to go to work. Well your wrong because after a while you would get so bored that you would want to rip your head off. I don't know how Luke did it. When he was little and was surrounded by woods he was able to go outside a play around because no one would see him. Then recently the government started building a city around their house and forced Luke to be inside 24-7. He studied for days the new people that were coming in and out of the town. In the mornings he used to count everyone that was in the town to make sure that they were gone. One day when he got done counting he saw another person in a house. He got curious so he took a risk and went to the house to see what was over there. He met a girl named Jen who is another third and they became friends. Jen is one of those kids who like to protest about things unlike Luke who doesn't like to do that stuff. When Jen finally sets up a rally......WELL YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

Summary: Among The Hidden
Review: Hiding, no safety anywhere! Luke is a third child, hiding away from the Population Police. Third children are illegal at the time and their lives are in danger no matter where they are or how they keep themselves hidden. If you are a person that likes science fiction and even if you don't I would recommend the book Among The Hidden. This is possibly one of the best books that I have ever read. It is very suspenseful and keeps you wanting to read more and more. Also it is unpredictable. You would predict one thing to happen and then suddenly something totally different would. Will the main character, Luke, survive the terror of the Population Police? Or will his parent's mistake on having him lead to death? To find out read Among The Hidden. And if you enjoy it than read its two sequels: Among The Imposters and Among The Betrayed.

Summary: Among the Hidden
Review: Among the Hidden is about a boy named Luke. He lives with his mom, dad and his two brothers, Mark and Matt. Luke is the youngest child and is therefore called a Third or shadow child. In this world, families aren't allowed to have more than three children. This is controlled by the Population Police. Because of this, Luke has to live upstairs in the attic due to the building of houses nearby. He isn't allowed to be seen. One day, Luke sees a face in a window of a house near him where two children already lived. This person that he meets has a plan to make Thirds or shadow children legal again, will Luke help her?
I thought this book was spectacular because of all the suspension the author brings. Just thinking about what you would do or feel makes the book that much better. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a suspenful and excellent story.

Summary: Great Read
Review: I read this book at the reccomendation of our school librarian. Although it is a bit too old for my students (3rd graders) I would love to use this book with students in say 5/6th grade. It brings up issues like government control, propaganda and human rights in an interesting and though provoking manner.
