Summary: I never knew diving for pearls could be so interesting.
Review: This story is about a boy named Ramon who becomes part of his fathers business and tries to get his dads support by searching for the great pearl of heaven. He finds the pearl and shows his dad, but the next day his father dies, but it's no accident. Read the book to see who or what caused it.

Summary: A great story
Review: This story, The Black Pearl is about a boy who's father is one of the finest pearlers in Mexico. He teaches his son, Ramon, everything about pearling for example how to weigh a pearl, and how to record what shape and size it is, etc. The only thing Ramon does not learn, is how to dive for pearls. Ramonn always asks his father to teach him how to dive for pearls, and his father always answers, when you are sixteen. When Ramon finally turns sixteen, he asks his father to teach him, and his father says, I will teach you when I come back from my pearling trip. Ramon is impatient, so he learns how to pearl from an old indian named Soto Luzun. Soto Luzun is afraid of a big sea creature, named the Manta Diablo. The Manta Diablo lives in a cave, where the biggest pearls in the world are, and there is supposivly a big black pearl called the pearl of heaven. Ramon finds this pearl, just as he was told. It was a big black pearl, perfectly round, and 62.3 carats. When Ramon's father came home he was amazed and he tried to sell the pearl. The end is wonderful, so I won't say it, but I will say that I reccomend this book to everyone!

Summary: an experience of a boy proving himself amongst elders
Review: This was one of the best book I ever read . It had a good bit of adventure. It always kept you excited wanting to know what was going to happen next. Your heart was alwas beating fast. It was not exactly scary but you felt you personally were a TV crewman standing behind the main character the whole time experiencing his adventures. It was a quick read , I read it in two nights and being 10 years old my bedtime is nine pm ! It took place somewhere in Mexico in small town on the coast with myths and legends about the sea and jewels. The boy, Ramon, tells the whole story but you felt in the adventure parts like you were with him. Ramon's father had a pearl diving fleet and the legend had it that no one is to enter the cave of the Manta Diablo. The reader of this book experiences the same emotions of adventure of a boy who goes about proving himself to the bragging elder strongman of a pearl fleet and all the trouble that can arise from that.

This book is about a kid named Ram'on finding a great black pearl. His father was the most famous dealer in pearls. When Ram'on and Sevillano went out to the sea to dive and get pearls, Ram'on found a wonderful thing. It was a very delicate black pearl. The book called it the Pearl of Heaven. Ram'on's father gave it way to the church though. Later, Ram'on steals the pearl and with Sevillano, he goes to the City of Guaymas to sell the pearl. They have a little fighting(sort of) against the Manta Diablo.

I thought this book was fun because it had adventure in it. It had the part where Manta Diablo comes and attacks, when Ram'on dives into the sea and finds the black pearl. Also the time when Ram'on and Sevillano is sailing to the City of Guaymas. The Black Pearl was overall a good book since the majority of the story was adventurous. They were all very interesting.

My favorite part of the book was the part when Sevillano told Ram'on that he knows Ram'on stole the pearl. At first, I thought that was really creepy because if I were Ram'on, I would probably thinking that the man was spying on me. Well, it was creepier when Sevillano threatened Ram'on to come with him to the City of Guaymas. He held a knife in his hand! That'll be frightening. The Black Pearl is an exciting book.
