Rating: Summary: Simply not worth reading. Review: how dare you call this a literary masterpiece. this is swill. i can't believe i wasted the time, effort, and money on this book. his writing style isn't a style at all. he lays down a sentance and it's just "there". it's not to be thought about or pondered over, it's just a series of words that has been said. the story is not only unbelievably elementary, it reads like it was written for the purpose of a text book. the character development is the only half good thing about this book. the characters have a distinct and unique personality. but, at the same time, this is a fault. the characters seem like they were written to be "the dumb one", "the mean one", "the rich one", and so on. the one thing that brings down this book the most is the speed. never in my life have i read such a slow, and ultimately meaningless book. i judge a book by how much i was moved. how much it changed my point of view on something, and how much it "spoke" to me. after finnishing "great expectations", i was left with a feeling of sheer disdain for dickens due to my loss of time. if you want a moving experience, check into these- "dreamcatcher-stephen king", "clockwork orange"-anthony burgess, "sleepers"-Lorenzo Carcaterra , "eyes wide shut"-arthur schnitzler. please, if you are reading this, then you have an obvious interest in literature. dickens is no genius. read the above books to know what true writing talent is.
Rating: Summary: Great books........Come on Frank Review: I can't believe what Frank said, you shouldn't listen to him. All of these books rank in the top 20 books of all time. His style that he puts forth in all the novels is of Victorian, so you have to be ready to be in for a little challenge. And unless you are braindead all of these novels should move you. Frank doesn't make sense, especially when he said that " I like books that move me" and then he gave us a look at good books. One of them was "Dreamcather" by Stephen King. Now, Frank, how in the world did that book move you?? Anyways, all of these books are classics, and very well written. And some of them seem a bit outdated because they have been cliched thousands of times. But like the saying goes, 'There aint nothing like the real thing."
Rating: Summary: Read "A Christmas Carol" Review: I would like to encourage any one to read "A Christmas Carol". Whether you are not old enough to read yet, have someone read you this joyous story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his moments on Christmas. For any adults, young or old, I would recommend you to read this to your children and to any other relative. I think that it is one of the most interesting Christmas story that I have ever read. Once you have read the book, take some time and watch the movie to follow the staves throughout the book. Another thing, is that you should go buy "A Christmas Carol" at your local book store or right here at amazon.com . Thank you very much and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Rating: Summary: How does he do that? Review: I, myself have only read Great Expectations and a Tale of Two Cities-which I must say is exellent and one of my favorite Dickens works. I wonder how he can write like that? I mean, you would think that he had actually lived through all his novels. The people's feelings and emotion can be expressed through actions or speech. They come alive and seem like real people who have been interviewed.
Rating: Summary: it's really great. Review: It's a really good book. It's about a boy's life who experiences abnormal things. All the characters have very important roles and they effect the story everywhere. You will be surprised when you read the end and find out the characters' secret. It's just so great.

Rating: Summary: certainly better than the movie Review: when i watched the movie i didn't really like it... it was lacking of "something"... and it wasn't the best De Niro's performing at all... some day i was at the mall and saw the book for a resonavle price and since i was going to have vacations i thought to myself "i could read it this week... after all if Dickens wrote it, it can't be as bad as the movie". that was my best choice in vacations !!! i didn't read it... i devoured it !!! if you watched the movie don't pay attention if you liked it or not... the book is not only the simple story of the guy depreciated by the girl, but the painting of a whole society on those times... great expectations greatly satisfied !!! from the Argentine Lands Bertran
