Summary: Living the life of a teenage girl
Review: In this book i felt like i was Virginia. She had the same thing going on as young woman do now. Her family is always out and about and have their own thing going on.They dont really pay much attention to her because they are busy with their own lives. In this book you can feel all the things a teenage girl feel like she has to live up to, weight, popularity, boys, parents approval, older sibbings livign up to be like them, just having the perfect look. With Virgina it's a weight thing and the way she deals with it proves that not all girls have to be perfect. This book is both funny and touching. All girls can relate to it.

Summary: A Book We Can All Relate To
Review: The book The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things by Carolyn Mackler is truly an awesome read. The book is about an average highschooler named Virginia Shreves, the only thing not exactly average about her is her weight. Virginia is bigger then normal and knows it and lives by what she calls the fat girl code of conduct. You get to know Virginia as a character and the issues in her life, one of them being her having to realize her brother is a date raper and her mother may never accept her for who she really is big boned and all. The book is humerous but also touches on some topics that are not so funny, like eating disorders, becasue shes not happy with her weight. It also has romance in it, which i think is the perfect mix. Carolyn Mackler's book is a read worth your time and a book you will regret dearly for passing up.

Summary: Better than I expected
Review: The first book I ever read by this author was 'Love and Other Four-Letter Words'. It was okay, but the plot was somewhat predictable and consisted of the typical teen rantings. I read this book expecting the same thing. I was blown away. It's definately much better. I was able to relate to Virgina on so many levels. What made me enjoy this book so much was the plot. Everything from her crash diet, to her brother's date rape, to her escaping to Seattle, her various fights with her mom, etc. The plot wasn't predictable at all and that's what kept the page turning. This book was able to deal with everyday situations while keeping a good vibe and not getting sugar-coated. Now that's saying something. One of the best teen books I have read in a long time, and for that I give it 5 stars.

Summary: A great read
Review: This book is a delight. The humor is wonderful, and the main character so well drawn. There aren't many novels like this-- fast-paced and very funny, yet also deep and memorable.

I started this book last night after dinner and finished it around 2:30 a.m. this morning. I couldn't put it down.

The story is of an overweight girl with very low self-esteem and a selfish family. Gradually, she learns to love herself and to see her family's flaws and thrive in spite of them. It's an empowering book-- for overweight people, for teens, for females, for most readers I believe.

I reccommend it highly.

Summary: Virginia ROCKS
Review: This book is about a girl named Virginia, she ws named after Virginia Woolf. She doesn't think she fits in with her "perfect" family. She is over wieght and not really popular at her high school. She is sad that her best friend, Shannon, moved to Walla Walla, Washingston. Her mom was heavy when she was younger, but is no ilove with excercising. Her dad thinks only skinny women are pretty. Her siblings Anais and Byron are slim and popular. Then one day her family get a call, Byron got supended from Columbia, for a semester, for date-rapping girl. Then through the story Virginia and Shannon meet up in Seattle, where Virginia gets a eyebrow ring and Shannon gets her tongue pierced. Virginia gets her independence and her life changes for the better. But her senile geometry, Mr. Mooney has a major heart attack at school and dies a few days later. She also gets a new friend named Alssya, who always knits. She evens starts a school web site club, where kids can rant and rave about whatever they what.

Summary: For a teenage girl
Review: This book is about a teenage girl who is kind of over heavy and not that pretty, she's not popular and not a lot of guys like her. Her best friend had moved away a few months ago and she was pretty much alone at school. When lunch time came up she ate lunch in the bathroom stall, or went to one of her favorite teacher's classroom. Her mom pressured her a lot to lose weight, but she never really wanted to. Her brother is in college and just got charged with rape, so he had to move back in with his parents and little sister. I recommend this book to girl teens because you'll relate to it in some way.

Summary: Not a bad book
Review: This book is really good because you can put yourself into someone else's shoes. It shows that even if you're overweight, you're still a somebody. It gives hope and inspiration to teenagers to be bold and follow your dreams.

Summary: True Rebelion
Review: This book was just too good, it tells the story of Verginia Shreves, and her dealing with her best friends move to Walla Walla Washington, and her weird, and sometimes embarrassing first love. And while that seems like a total "Yeah-sounds-like-any-other-first-love-teenage-book-of-growing-up-and-finding-yourself" it really is much more then that. Virginia's story gets much deeper when her brother, (who also happens to be the one person in the entire world that she admires and looks up to the most) makes a huge life changing mastake that will follow him for the rest of his life. And while all this is happening Verginia decides that she is not going to take any of her mothers [stuff] anymore and stop looking the way her mother wants her to look, and starts being the person that she has always been deep down inside, and not just the fat, shy, loser girl that people once knew her as. I truly loved this book and recomend it to anyone who loves to read like I do.
