Summary: Just another halocaust book
Review: This book is just like all the rest of the halocaust books. It got very old very quick. I didn't enjoy it much. I had to read it for school and it really didn't interest me at all.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Tear-Jerker
Review: This book is really well written, but is probably the saddest and most depressing book I have ever read. Do not read this as a falling asleep book. There is no happy ending or beginning or middle.

Summary: review for stones in water
Review: This book is very good for the person who wants to follow the trail of a teenage Italian WWII captive. Roberto and his friends are taken by German soliders to a German labor camp. Samuelle a.k.a. Enzo and Roberto are caught stealing eggs and sent to a concentration camp in Ukraine. There Enzo dies from beatings and the cold. Roberto escapes from the camp and starts on a long, dangerous journey. In total Roberto estimates that he traveled somewhere between 220 to 230 kilo meters both on land and water. Although, Roberto isnt alone through this, first he befriends a young Ukrainian boy who helps him escape later from more trouble and an Italian soldier who he can finally talk to and be understood. This book really describes the horrific events of the holocaust and I recommend it if youcan stomach war subjects.

Summary: A Favorite!
Review: This book was a very detailed book. Showing how this kid went threw the Holocaust, and his friend dying. Then, he escapes and he has to survive in the winter in the woods. he gets a little "boy" to help him. Then, the boy escapes. He is taken to... it's not really prison but is taken in. The thing that con fused me thow is when he was in I so call it "jail". And the boy was with him and stuff. I got this from the Holocaust pack at the book orders. This book is a favorite!

Summary: Stones in Water
Review: This book was awsome. It always kept me on edge. It was about a boy and his brother and two friends. They went to a movie were german soldiers took them to work at camps. Were they were poorly feed and harshly treated. The main boy Roberto and his friand Samule were sent to the same work camp. Samule is a jew and changes his name to Enzo. So the Germans will not kill him. One night Enzo was beaten really bad by the other kids. And from the bitter coldness he died. Roberto decided to ecscape to his home in Vinece, Italy.Read this book and love it.

Summary: World War 2 isn't just something from history books
Review: This book was excellent. In the story, a boy(Roberto) and his friends are forced to leave their town and do slave labor in German work camps. His only link to his past life is his Jewish friend, Samuele. After his friend is beaten to death, roberto can't stand his imprisonment any longer and escapes from the camp. He is in a country, Ukraine, which is at war with his Italy. Roberto must battle the freezing weather, being attacked by villagers and his subsequent bullet wound. Roberto finally is able to make progress toward his goal- the Black sea and home to Italy- when an Italian deserter, named Maurizio, finds him and makes Roberto paddle for him. After at least of week of not being able to speak to anyone, Roberto breaks down and talks to the soldier. Roberto finds out that maurizio wants to be a partiganio-someone who sabotages the war, and saves jews-and Roberto knows that he want to be a partiganio, too.
This book really brought world war 2 alive for me. I was so used to hearing stories of generals and battles, and of kids in germany. But I have never read about a kid in Italy during the war. The book doesn't sugarcaot how life was during the war. It tells of the hardships and dangers Roberto and Samuele endured, like freezing nights, hard labor, very little food and having to leave their families. This book has emotion, compasion and symbolism. Roberto has to make many moral decisions which could change his life-or kill him. An example of this is when Roberto decides to feed a jewish Polish girl who is starving even though he himself is close to exhaustion. Beside that, if he was caught he'd almost certainly be shot.
