Rating: Summary: Trials Review: A Review by JoshStones in Water is about the adventure of Roberto, a 13 year old boy and his friend Sameule, who is also known as Enzo during WWII. The story starts when Roberto, his brother Sergio, and his friends Memo and Sameule are kidnapped at a movie theater by German soldiers. All of them are split up except for Sameule, who is now Enzo, and Roberto. Roberto and Enzo face many different trials and work at a prisoner of war camp. Roberto ends up escaping from the camp by meeting a group of Italian deserter soldiers and he follows them to Ukraine. While Roberto is in Ukraine he meets a boy and they fight to stay alive during the cold winter. I really liked this book because of how it was based around a snowy area, which is my favorite type of surrounding. The book has a wonderful adventurous storyline. I like the main characters in this book because they are very nice. The book puts you in a first person point of view on WWII, which really helps you to understand the trials of WWII. I would recommend this book to everyone because of how well it is written.
Rating: Summary: Incredible Review: A story of bravery. Four boys go off to a movie. Within the first two chapters only two are left to discuss. First there is Roberto, a brave and strong boy who feeds of his friend for support but pays him back the only way he can. (i wont ruin it for you) Samule aka Enzo is that very friend. He has a secret to keep from the Germans and he does it well, with Roberto there to help him. The story follows two boys and their struggles with kidnapping, poor living conditions and a lack of food. But even with all of their own problems the boys have time to help others. The real joy of this book is the struggle to remain alive and the friendship that never dies.
Rating: Summary: Stones in Water Review: Do you like fierce, blood packed, and gun-killing stories? Than you'll go crazy over Stones in Water. Donna Jo Napoli tells the story of 3 Italian boys (2 are brothers) and 1 Jewish boy who sneak into a movie, and get captured by Germans who ship the boys off to a German concentration camp. Because Sameule (the Jewish boy) is such a Jewish name they must change his name to Enzo. This is a great book for children of all ages. This is a great book because it has lots of loving and caring. It is also a great book for young children because it tells them that you should never stop trying. The downside to this book was the flashbacks because there was not a lot of them and they would have helped you understand the book better. But the strong point in this book is the loving and caring the characters give to each other. A few other books that you might want to take a look at are The Bravest Thing, Shark Shock, and The Magic Circle. Would Germans capture you because you snuck into a movie?
Rating: Summary: Review for Stones in Water Review: I couldn't complete this story. It was the most shocking, revolting piece of "literature" I have ever read. In fact, I despised it so much, I couldn't bear to look at it on my book shelf any longer. So I put it where it belonged--in the trash.
Rating: Summary: A Child's View of WWII Review: I felt this book was really boring at the beginning, but after I got through one forth of the book, it was hard to put it down. I would say the author's style of writing is a biography because she tells the life of a child named Samuele during World War II. I learned a lot of things from this book on how WWII affected a child's life. I would not like to have been living during those times because it didn't sound like much fun. They had to go to work camps, they didn't get fed very well, and you had a seventy-five percent chance of living each day. Your life was always at risk.
Rating: Summary: beautifully written An intriguing book best book ever read Review: i just can't tell u how good this book is. all i can tell is this book IS GREAT buy it
Rating: Summary: I Love It ! Review: I liked this book, it was great. I would recommend this to anyone I knew. I liked it because it was about a boy who did something they didn't want to do and they faced up to it. This is one of the best books I've read.
Rating: Summary: Great Book!!! Review: I love this book. It is one of the most depressing books I have ever read and it's based on a true story!!! It told me a lot about WWII that I didn't know. I lived in Germany for five years and went to concentration camps but I never knew about the Nazi'a persecuting the Italians. The ending did leave me hanging, however, I wanted to know what happened to Maurizio and Roberto.
Rating: Summary: Best Book By Napoli! Review: I read it and at first thought it was boring. But soon the author put words about the main charactor, Roberto and he spit the words out in his own. She greatly described Roberto's feelings and the sadness came incredibly. It starts when Roberto, Samuele, Memo, and Roberto's brother Sergio go to the theatre to see an American movie. Italian soldiers burst in and capture all the viewers. (Which are all boys.) Roberto tries to find Sergio, but is separated from him and soon Memo and is left with Sameule, whom is now called Enzo because people will know if he is Jewish by his true name. Roberto and Enzo are being worked by the Germans, making them make pens and parts of airplanes. When a Jewish family comes, Roberto is kind enough to give a teenage girl and her sister some food. But after Enzo suddenly dies, Roberto leaves to go to the Black Sea. Leaving the boy he befriends again, he rides down a boat with a Roman-Italian soldier and it ends there. I deeply recommend this book to people who have a deep obsession for history and World War 2, as well as not giving up when everything seems hopeless.
Rating: Summary: You will not fall asleep reading this book Review: I read this book in four days. It was very good and I could vizualize all the pages of the book. It was very sad when something bad happened to Samuele and the other boys were taking his clothes away. The rest of the book is about Roberto running away from the soldiers. In this book I learned about how they survived in such hard conditions.
