Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: A time waster. Review: I was very disappointed in this book. There was no true story line to it. The lifestyle of these teens seems very unrealistic. There aristocratic style and nonchalant attitude about drinking and smoking is not a "story" you can get in to. I would definitely NOT recommend this book unless you are looking for something that is cheesy, superficial and frankly a time waster when there are so many other great books out there that are more worth your time.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: it was kind of cheesy... Review: When i bought this book, i thought i was in for a very well written story; if you ask me, Gossip Girl was somewhat poorly written, and the little inserts of a webpage made it even cheesier. I didn't like how they made it seem like GOSSIP was the only thing important to these kids. It seemed to me as if everything i was reading was made for little 10 year old children to understand. As for the storyline, it was good at first, but then it fell to almost zero. The ending to the story didn't quite give me a feeling that it was finished either, even though there is the sequel to it, there was still something missing, like maybe an explanation to what happened to the rest of the characters... it only talked about Serena getting into the car with Dan and Jenny... HELLO! there was still Blair, and Nate, and Chuck, and the rest of the dumb "gossipers" as well as Vanessa and Clark. All that i was reading about was a party here or there, making out in another room, then, more drinking and smoking. Maybe it's because i don't live in the world that these teenagers supposedly lived in but i still think it was a pointless story that you could have wrapped up into one phrase; "best friends are not best friends anymore." overall, i didn't get what i expected out of this book, and i was quite frankly disappointed. It lacked the essence of a good story, such as more than smoking and drinking and maybe more of a punchline, to maybe show it's readers that there was more to a rich life than parties.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: **All so True** Review: This book was one of the best books that i have ever read. It is all about the truth of what really goes on in the real world no matter how you look at it. Blair has the perfect life, boyfriend, and well of course money! There is not one thing in this book that was not true. When you look at our society, kids shop in the best of the best and go to the best of the best. They drink no matter what their parents say and they have sex. Smoking is totally a persons pick whether or not they do it, but trust me they do it. THe book states the truth and is one of the best books out there!!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great Book Review: I thought this book was great. i could really relate to a lot of issues in this book and it wasnt at all boring. im a freshman in highschool and in my opinion this book dealt with a lot of issues of older people. This website says the reading level is for young adults but not only does this book involve sexual content but it also has many swears in it not appropiate for young teens.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Gossip Girl is a Great Book! Review: The book Gossip Girl really shows you what a teenager's life is like. Many people think that teenagers are innocent, and I'm sure some are, but the teenagers in this are far from innocent. This book is good for a great laugh, and a hard cry. By reading this book, you can become a rich, privilaged, and somewhat spoiled teenager like Blair Waldorf, Serena Van Der Woodsen, or Nate Archibald.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Hooked Me from Start to End Review: I think Gossip Girl is the most hooking book I've ever read. I'm just waiting to get the sequel, You Know You Love Me, that's sitting in my locker. In upstate New York, home of some of the richest people of New York, lives Blaire. In a world of drugs, alcohol, smoking, and sex, some find it easy to be "in", and others would do anything, and I mean anything to go to the most happenining party around. Gossip Girl is an anonomous person, who, about every 3 chapters, answers readers questions, and discusses the latest sighings and happenings. The author leaves you puzzled on who Gossip Girl is. But that makes it all the more interesting.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: If You Are A Gossip and Love to Hate You'll Love This! Review: I loved this book. It's a refreshing perspective on somewhat realistic teans. Anyone who says the characters are air-heads or that the book is too full of superficial-ness needs to get over it! This book is fun. A taste of excitement. Like a great escape. It makes you want to drink, have promiscuous sex, and be extravagant with everything! Of course sane people won't go out trying to be just like the characters. I wouldn't mind being a little like them (gorgeous, popular, smart, ambitious). XOXOXO
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Hollow as the characters' heads Review: Cecily Von Ziegesar must be credited with this much: She never pretends that "Gossip Girl" is anything but vapid, vitriolic fluff with no real plotline and no real end. It is possible to produce books like that that are also funny and even enlightening, but "Gossip Girl" is essentially a plodding, repetitive attempt at a "real" teen book. The beautiful Serena has returned from a sojourn in a ritzy private school and some time in France. Pretty bulimic Blair is dismayed by this, as Serena has unconsciously usurped the position that Blair had been occupying. Even worse, Blair's boyfriend Nate once slept with Serena and is still interested in her, but Serena is not really interested in Nate. Dan is besotted with her, and Jenny looks up to her. Rumors begin to fly about Serena -- that she's slutty, that she has enough STDs for several people, that she had a baby in France, that she was thrown out of her boarding school, that she's had several abortions, and just about every other kind of vicious rumor. And presiding over all of this is Gossip Girl, a mysterious omniscient observer who reports online about the tangled lives of her friends and peers. It seems that readers will never tire of the antics of too-rich Manhattanites, especially if they live depraved, empty lives. Like Nick McDonell's "Twelve," this book is filled with shallow, obnoxious characters who do drugs, sex, alcohol, and mourn the problems of their privileged lives. The drugs, sex, alcohol, bulimia and angst serve no actual purpose in the plot; they are merely attempts to shock. The problem is that they are handled in such a haphazard manner that they don't shock at all -- they are merely diversions to spice up the lack of plot. Strip them away, and there's pretty much nothing left. And while McDonell managed some poignant moments and character insights, Von Ziegesar never makes any such attempt. We are never given a reason to react to anyone in this book, either to be interested or repelled by them. I, personally, was only bored by them. Those characters are also stereotypes, in a fictional world where the elite rich are all gorgeous. The scheming insecure girl, the mystery beauty, the shy naive girl, the weak handsome guy, the promiscuous guy, and dozens of others are devoid of any originality. They are part of the stereotype that teenagers are intrinsically shallow and can't be bothered with anyone who is not of interest to them. Admittedly, the "Gossip Girl" website extracts are amusing. There's a certain wit to them, and they are also the only parts of the book that show some genuine originality. I only wish there had been more of them, and fewer repetitive rumors about Serena's past. The writing style lacks detail or any sort of wit or spiciness. And, like, the dialogue is so, you know, like, stupid, right? Perhaps the worst part of the book is the finale, which fails to produce a climax or wrap up any loose threads. The book simply stops. Perhaps this is an effort to get readers to read "You Know You Love Me," if they aren't too disgusted by the plodding storyline and grating characters. Not recommended for anyone whose IQ is higher than their dog's.
