Review: This is a total ripoff of the Harry Potter series. HELLO? The boy even looks like Harry Potter! They have the same freaking glasses! How could anyone who likes Harry Potter like this book? Bad things happen to Harry Potter too at the beginning you know. I would suggest you read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone before you read it so you can see as I have, that this is a total copy of it. Harry Potter is much more original. Like, did this guy, Lemony Snicket, think that people wouldn't notice how his books is like Harry Potter? Does he think kids are stupid and wouldn't notice such things? Review: This book is about a the Baudelaire orphans. They are Violet (14), Klaus, (almost thirteen), and Sunny, an baby and their adventures. They meet up with a man named Count Ofar an evil man, because their parents die. Count Ofar comes up with a plan to take away their fortune. If you read this book, you'll see how they save their fortune, and read about their adventures. I got this book yesterday afternoon, and just finished it. It reminds me of Harry Potter...

Summary: A look at the books and the reviews..
Review: I just recently finished this book (as in yesterday), and I surprisingly enjoyed it. I wasn't actually looking forward to reading this book, I picked it up because of price rather than want. I finally got around to reading this book and I think it's great. The story starts off with a day at the beach, one that was meant to be pleasant, and unfortunately was not. Due to unfortunate circumstances, the Baudelaire children, Violet (14), Klaus (12) , and Sunny (Infant) are sent to live with a distant relative that they have never met, Count Olaf. He turns out to be a filthy man, with a filthy plan, and well things get worse from there. I find the plot to be very original, as well as most of the characters. I found it to be a quick and fun read. This book does drag along a little but it does get better in the second book, The Reptile Room. I suggest after this book that you continue with the series, but then again its only a suggestion. For this book you will see a lot of good reviews, and a lot of bad reviews. I think that some people are a bit too uptight, and over analyzing this book just a bit. I also think that some don't understand the meaning of the words CHILDREN'S BOOK (I say this concerning the definitions throughout the book). I understand that a lot of adults and teenagers (I'm 14 myself) like to read children's books, but because it is a children's book, I don't understand getting upset over the definitions. I personally think it would be helpful to younger children reading this series, but everyone has their own opinion. True, this is no Harry Potter, but I personally think that it is a good waiting book, that's why I'm reading the series. As others have said, it is full of dark humor, and sarcasm, etc., Read at your own risk.. but I say, read it and have your own opinion.

Review: For all you people who think Harry Potter rocks read this series and it will blow you away! Sure it's a little depressing but it's very humorus,too! Oh, by the way my teacher has a masters degree in children's literature and I'm letting her borrow them and she thinks they're awesome! Almost everyone in my class I told about the books are reading them. I'm waiting for the 8th book now. I think you should like these books if you have a sense of humor.

Summary: a deliciously dark delight!
Review: suspend your disbelief for a moment and imagine that tim burton, edward gorey, and charles dickens were locked in a room for a brainstorming session to create a new series of children's stories. this is what i can easily see when sitting down to read any of the books in lemony snicket's dark, humorous, and cleverly written series. they are not harry potter. the comparisons alone are ridiculous. they're not even remotely similar. apparently, a "reviewer" can find two books in the same store, one of them being harry potter, and proceed to lambast the non-potter book solely on the fact that they co-exist. i just have to roll my eyes, shake my head, and write a review whenever i see this. by now, you know the plot of these books. yes, they're pretty much the same, and yet they're different. i think you need to gauge your own child's sense of the morose before opting to read these to them. older children, i think, will delight in them, particularly those with a slightly twisted sense of humor. i, personally, will continue to read each book in the series, if for no other reason than to see how count olaf will turn up next!

Summary: Great book, great series
Review: Honestly, why are people abusing these books? Abusing children?! It's set in a perfect way, so that it's ridiculous enough to not be taken seriously, but not so ridiculous that it's stupid. This is a wonderful series. I've only read the first three books, but I'm hooked. Oh, and in book two, don't worry about the curses, because their small enough that if 9 yrs plus can't take them, they can't take Harry Potter either (specifically the 4th, it has more than two curses). So people who complained: Stop taking it so seriously; it's A BOOK!!

Summary: Wanted the next best thing after Harry Potter. didn't get it
Review: I was looking for a book that would be as fun as reading Harry Potter and I heard that these books were what I was looking for. I'm 21 and LOVE Harry Potter but not these. I felt like I should be 10 yrs younger to read this. Just wasn't entertained at all. So overall, not a book for anyone just the little ones.
