Rating: Summary: A Bad Beginning For Baudelaires,A Good Gateway For you! Review: I dislike comparing original works to the likes of others, but in an attempt to give you an idea of what these books are like, imagine if you will, Roald Dahl,Richard Sala, and Monty Python all sitting around a table and concieving a series of "childrens" books.....and you'd have a pretty good idea of what its all about."The Bad Beginning",starts off the dismal adventures of the Baudelaire children and their quest to defeat their wicked uncle Count Olaf, and his evil schemes, and numerous minions. It also begins the mystery surrounding Mr.Lemony Snicket, and why he is compelled to write these adventures, and why he is running from the authorities!( Not to mention the mystery surrounding the very dead Beatrice! ) Childrens books? Hardly. These are for "big kids"! Not many children will catch the numerous literary references. (i.e. "Baudelaire",or "Sunny & Klaus" ( as in "Von Bulow" )or "Isadora & Duncan Quagmire",or Mr.Poe,whom constantly coughs into his handkerchief, and his son Edgar,or Uncle Monty whom owns a collection of snakes, etc. ). Not to mention the series promises 13 books, all with 13 chapters. The plots are comical and silly, and a great distraction for those whom like a good laugh,at the expense of some downtrodden orphans.( And who doesn't? ) How can you not be drawn to a book, whos very dust jacket implores you NOT to read it? Like a bad habit with your name on it,once you begin, you'll crave more and more! I recommend this series for anyone with a sense of humour or your favorite goth girl or guy!
Rating: Summary: The Bad Beginning Review: There once three siblings named Violet, Klaus and Sunny, their house got caught on fire with their parents inside. Now they have to live with their Uncle, Count Olaf. Count Olaf is a really tall, ugly, mean man with an eye tattoo on his ankle. Count Olaf is not a nice and caring person. He tells the Baudelaire orphans to clean and cook for him and his friends. All he wanted was to get the orphans fortune.

Rating: Summary: A great beginning for a series of unfortunate events Review: This book is a great beginning for a series of unfortunate events because i thought the characters were great and it was filled with mystery, misery, and humor. At first the baudelaire orphans get told that there parents get killed in a house fire and then they have to go live with there evil relative named count olaf. then everything is dreadful from three children sleeping in 1 room with only 1 bed to having a play that count olaf can take their money from. well, if u want to find out what happens, read the book! i did and i am already on the 5th book! i recommend it to everyone!
Rating: Summary: Lemony Snicket?? Review: The whole series is cute and well written, but that's not surprising if you know who Lemony Snicket is. Lemony Snicket is an unpublicized alias for J.K. Rowling. That's very true.
Rating: Summary: THE BAD BEGINNING IS A GOOD BEGINNING Review: I love THE BAD BEGINNING because it is long lasting and exciting. I would recommend this book to people ages 8 and up. I love all the different characters, I never would have been able to imagine such people.
Rating: Summary: The GREAT Bad Beginning Review: I gave five stars to The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket. It is about three children making it on their own after their parent's death. My favorite part of the story was when they found a place to live. The saddest part of the story was when their parents died and their house burned to ashes. I recommend this book to fifth graders that like to read good, but weird stories. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did!
Rating: Summary: A Truly Bad Beginning Review: This book was purchased as a gift for my 8 and 10 year olds who loved the Harry Potter series. After reading the cover, I decided to read the book before they did. I found the book to be very dark and brooding. It was billed to be for those who enjoyed "Harry Potter"... I did not find that it had any of the positive adult-child relationships found in the Potter books. "A Bad Beginning" is quite a depressing read. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Deserving 5+ Stars! Review: "The Bad Beginning" is an excellent book for young people who want a story that's to the point and fun or for other people who just want a quick and enjoyable read. The story moves quickly, there are no boring details, and the characters are likable or detestable. Lemony Snicket isn't writing a story; the reader feels more like he's telling you a story. He helps and challenges the reader with his style of writing. Be glad it is one in a series of many!
