Rating: Summary: not that great but i guess........ Review: Hello. I am a vivid reader and when my dad and his girlfriend bought me the series of unfortunate events #1 thru #6, I was not exeption-ally pleased.I read them all, so when I had to do a book review for school I picked the bad beginning.I really liked the story line-three sibling's parents die when the house is caught on fire and burnt to the ground and then they go live with the horrendous Count Olaf-but at cirtain points the story really seemed to be getting nowhere. Also, when Lemony Snicket wries things like the first sentence of the book, (from my perception) it seems to discorage me. ("oops" if I have spelling mistakes)
Rating: Summary: Wonderful in its own way Review: This book is purely wonderful in its own way. It is not like other stories where the children are having a terrible life, their parents die, they live with an evil uncle, but everything turns out okay because their parents weren't really dead and everything is happily ever after. The book keeps you thrilled and on the edge of your seat until the last page. Then you run after the second book. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the ninth book in the 13-book series, The Carnivorous Carnival. (By the way, if you think I am too young to be reading these kinds of books, I can handle it. I am advanced.)

Rating: Summary: im an old scaredperson, lol Review: i bought this book the other day because i thought it looked interesting. i am generally a fan of the macabre. and i did love this book. i will have to get the rest now! the three baudelaire children are made orphans, when their parents are killed in a massive fire. they are sent to live with the cunning Count Olaf, who has this strange obsession with eyes... and getting his hands on the childrens' great fortune. but after reading this book, i can only wonder why it is reccomended mostly for kids late in their elementary school years... i'm sixteen and i found the book haunting. it was extremely witty, and made me laugh on several occasions; snicket has a great -- and delightfully dark -- sense of humor. but i could not imagine myself being aged 12 or under, and reading this book... i have the unnerving habit of getting my hopes up at all the wrong times. can you believe that, despite all the many warnings on and in the book, i still secretly hoped for a happy ending? lol, neither can i. but if you are consistantly optimistic and cheerful.... snicket is right. perhaps you are better off reading some other book ;) ah, hear me ramble. so! in short!: it is a very well-crafted book, which you should read if you can handle misfortune, and have the money to fork over for the rest of the series because you WILL get sucked in and want to read them all ;)
Rating: Summary: IT'S EVERYTHING THEY SAY IT IS AND MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. I recommend this for kids ages 10-15.It was really sad. I have read many of the books in this series and I have to tell you that if you don't read it in order, then you won't understand what's going on. By the way, I recommend the Harry Potter books, too.

Rating: Summary: Tim Curry IS Count Olaf... and Mr. Poe and Sunny... Review: Tim Curry is superb in his rendering of the characters. I can't imagine just reading this book--you'll miss out on the realism and horror his voice brings to the story. Listen to the book on tape!
Rating: Summary: Unfortunate to the end? Review: A delighting book starting with three children playing on the Briny Beach. Out of nowhere the family friend Mr.Poe tells them their house burnt down and their parents died in the fire. Mr.Poe takes care of them for a couple days. Thats where the real trouble starts. The children are sent to live with there third cousin four times removed. His name is Count Olaf and he is after the orphan's inherited fortune. He treats them like dust and the only person who can help them is Mr.Poe and he says Olaf is acting in loco parentis(obviously he isn't). The one nice person on the street is the only person who listens to them. Will the Baudelaire orphans make it out alive or will they suffer forever?
Rating: Summary: A Dastardly (which here means GOOD) debut! Review: I'm one of the many Lemony Snicket fans who's not in the 7-14 age group for whom the Unfortunate Series of Events series is written. I'm actually re-reading the series for the 2nd time, before the release of THE CARNIVOROUS CARNIVAL later this year. THE BAD BEGINNING is the start of the Baudelaire children's (Violet, Klaus and Sunny) grave misfortunes that will visit them in every book. The book is cleverly packaged inside and out: on the back cover is a short list of the awful things the children will encounter. On the inside back cover is a letter from Lemony Snicket detailing his valiant attempt to deliver the next story in the series. He leaves a set of clues directing us to the location of the manuscript. Definitely original and highly entertaining from start to finish! I can certainly see a TV adaptation of these books in hour-long episodes. Tim Burton as director comes to mind immediately. A quick and fun read for "kids of all ages!!"
Rating: Summary: You're going to cry and then laugh and then cry! Review: Read this with your children! It's as good as Kingdoms and Elves of the Reaches and it's hillariously irreverent! Violet, Klaus and baby Sunny are orphaned when a fire burns their home and kills their parents but that's only the sad beginning. Things get worse and worse for the children...
