Rating: Summary: a heart warming first novel Review: A seperate peace will leave you spellbound with John Knowles first novel about the tradgedies of war and their effect.
Rating: Summary: Very nice. Review: I think that this was a great book. My teacher, a real morbid man totally misunderstood this whole book. I found the real story, I loved it you just like the characters and will want to read it again. It is a real shame that finny dies and Gean feels in such a way that he is scared for life. I really like finny and think that he would have been a wonderful person to meet today. Does any one know if this story realy happened?
Rating: Summary: Not just another school book... Review: When I was issued the book a 'Seprate Peace' in my english 11 class I thoight it was just going to be another boring schoolbook. I was wrong. The book is very good and I would recomend it to evreybody. I won't take up your time telling the story, I'll just say that its good. Take time to read the book. I think if I, a know-it-all teenager (LOL), could get something out of it then evreyone can.
Rating: Summary: A boring all talk book. Review: It really bit hard, the best action in the book was when Finny fell out of the tree. If you are an emotional women who wants to cry or have someone to feel sorry for, then this is a good book but if you are a guy who likes action and hates to fall asleep while reading, than this book, like I said, "Really bites hard."
Rating: Summary: GREAT! Review: Don't be fooled by the tediously descriptive beginning. When I first started reading it last year for my English class, I thought I would hate it. By the time I was done, I was sad, not because of the tragic ending, but because I'd just finished what I knew would be one of my all time favorite books. You won't get fast-paced action in this novel, so don't look for it. The language is complicated and the plot is slow, but it's all worth it. This is one novel where the protagonist is both good and bad, or, if he's one or the other, you can't really decide which. This ambilance about Gene's character makes the book all the more realistic, because seldom can we categorize a person as all bad or all good in real life. Particularly superior is the very last chapter - there are some lines that you just HAVE to write down.
Rating: Summary: a sad, boring, but meaningful and in-real life sitaution Review: you may think that this book is boring when you read this novel. it is boring. i read this book when i was in my 10th grade for honors english. i had this novel for summer reading. i didn't really thought about how this book would have such a meaning as like what happens to real and ordianry boys in the high school years.this book has something to say about friendship, competition, and love. i am agreeing to say that this has no climax, but it has deep meanings.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Book- Complex and Poignant Review: This book is incredible. Don't pay attention to reviewers here who claim anything else. The reason many people don't like this book is because they don't see beyond the literal surface level. The symbolism lends incredible meaning to the story. I won't give any of it away, but will say that it speaks to human nature. The way one of the characters dies, although tragic, fits beautifully into the theme of the story. Wonderful. Beautiful. Dazzling. READ IT!
Rating: Summary: The understandable psychology of the characters Review: The first time, when I read "The Separate Peace", I cannot understand why Gene had the evil action to his best friend, Finny. Later, I've realized that sometimes human beings fail to control their bad envies. From the book of Genesis, I know the first story about the envy through Cain and Abel's story, two brothers. Do you think there are many troubles from the jealousy of the teen-agers in High School? How to teach them overcome their envies and have a good relationship with each other? How do you control and conquer the evil ideas in your life? I think you have to love and pray sincerely or ask Jesus what to do when you feel envious.
Rating: Summary: This book was interesting and it caught my intellectual side Review: I found that A Separate Peace was a very interesting novel. It explored the feelings of high school students during World War II. It also displayed the common inner hatred or envy between friends. John Knowles, the author, put a lot of himself into this novel. First, he placed the setting as a School in the country with a rather large campus and nature-like surroundings, just like the school that he went to, Phillips Exeter Academy. That school is just like Devon. Also, he grew up during the war, just like the protagonist, Gene. I was extremely impressed with the way that Knowles wrote this novel, and encourage all readers to read this novel.
Rating: Summary: holds you till the end and then sucks Review: The book "A Seperate Peace" is very well written. Personally, I really liked this book because it kept me into it. The author made all of the characters, especially Gene, very dynamic. another thing that really made this book come out was that it was the authors own life background. The thing I did not like about this book is the end of the book sucks! I believe Phineas sould not have died because of the physicians ignorance. After all, the war went on and Gene enlisted. I beleive Gene enlisted for Phineas because he caused his death.
