Summary: This story is heartwarming and heartbreaking.
Review: This story is sacred to those of us who own and love coonhounds. It is a very heartwarming story about a boy who bonds with his coonhounds. Life can be heartbreaking. The cover on the hardback shows two Labrador Retrievers, one yellow and one black. These dogs were Redbone coonhounds. It is a SHAME that this mistake was made. As a coonhound person, I request that it be corrected.

Summary: Tear Jerkers, if you like them, this is the book with it
Review: "Don't die on me, don't die on,little girl," cried Billy. This is a powerful look on how far a young boy will go to get what he wants. Billy, a young adventurous, lad jumps at the chance to get his own two hunting dogs, the only problem they cost 50 dollars. Being that this story is set back into the early 1900's 50 dollars doesn't get you much more than now. Now, Billy tries with all his little might that he has in him and eventually scrounges up enough money for the dogs from collecting trash for pennies, helping out hunters, and capturing animal hides; that is, he now is two years older from when he started. Billy then goes on a journey of buying the dogs which is almost harder than earning the money to buy them. Getting his dogs he goes on adventurous tales of courage and winnings. Soon though, we come to a very tragic and tearing end that ends with a weeping reader or soft hearted head. Anybody who cares about anything would read this book; could read this book. This book has a strong, loving, context, but not too loving for even tough-muscle head guys could read and like. The way the author described this book you might as well be watching a movie with the best graphics, actors, and stunts ever developed. There is a larger context to this book though, it shows you how someone could be such a social outcast as a group of hillbilly hicks, but also a loving and reasonable people. So if you love anything, your stuff teddy bear, your favorite pillow, whatever, you will like this book with such a loveable plot and sad ending. Many people who face a great loss may relate this book very easily to the feelings. If anything this is a wash your soul book!

Summary: Adventurous novel about a boy and relationship with his dogs
Review: Where the red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawles, is about a boy named Billy growing up in the Ozark Mountains. While growing up in the country side, Billy wanted to dogs to hunt coons with, but his father could not afford such an expensive dog. Billy decided to earn the money himself. Billy trained his dogs and took them hunting every night.Billy and his dogs went through many adventures hunting for coons. One time, they encountered a mountain lion. Old Dan was able to save Billy's life from the mountain lion. Little Ann could not go on with her life because her friend had just died. Billy decided to bury the two dogs next to each other. Billy and his family was able to move out the country side and into the city. He frequently visits his dogs grave and see a red fern growing in between them.

The reason why I enjoyed this book was because of the adventures Billy went on through out the novel. His hard work and dedication has showed me that you can achieve anything. The main theme that seemed to go out through the novel, is that even in tought times, hard work and persistence can lead to succes and achievement.
