Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: This is a wonderful book. I loved how close Billy and his dogs are. It made me think about my own relationship with my dogs. This book made me laugh and it made me cry. It was full of action and suspense, but the thing I liked most about it was how I could feel the love that Old Dan and Little Ann had for Billy and the love Billy had for them. I would recommend this book to anyone who has ever had a special dog in their life!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book Review: I cannot, without crying, get past the part where he sneaks off to gets his new coon pups. This story will touch you a lot, even if you don't like dogs. If you do like dogs, oh heavens . . . look out. His connection to those dogs, his love for them and their love for him makes a tremendous bond. It surely will pull on your heart strings.
Rating: Summary: Where The Red Fern Grows, A Must Read Review: Where the Red Fern Grows is an absolutely wonderful book about loyalty and love. Though it is about an 11-year-old boy, named Billy, who saves up enough money to buy two hound pups for hunting raccoons,I,a girl, found it to be an adventurous and extremely touching story. Billy and his dogs have many adventures hunting coons and God helps them along the way. When I read Where the Red Fern Grows,I cried and cried at the end, since the dogs die. Fortunately though, if you read the whole book, you will not be left filled with sadness, because a red fern, which in this book has a legend to it, grows in between the graves of the dogs. I highly encourage you to read this great book.
Rating: Summary: Best book ive ever read Review: Just finished reading it and i cried and cried. I am 9 years old and i thought that this was the best book i have ever read.
Rating: Summary: Where The Red Fern Grows: School Review Review: Evaluation: Where The Red Fern GrowsWhere The Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls is a well-told story for anyone who enjoys getting attached to the characters or for someone who likes a story full of adventure. This book is full of suspense and adventure. Wilson Rawls will get you attached to the characters of this story. The story will get you emotionally involved and in doing so the book will only get better as the story progresses. The story does start off kind slow and annoying in the way that, Billy, the main character just wines for about three chapters of wanting to get two hunting dogs. This makes the story drag on a little in the beginning and it is makes you anxious to see what is going to happen to him, if he is going to be able to achieve his goal. The facts that Billy, an eleven-year old boy, had worked for two straight years all by himself to buy his two hounds makes you appreciate the dogs even more. Creating this bond between you and the dogs makes the book more interesting. In creating this bond the author achieves a goal in making the reader care for the two hounds. In this book there is a stronger attraction towards, Old Dan and Little Ann, the dogs than there is between you and Billy. Even though they are not the main character they bring another mood to the story. It seems that every time they take part in the story the focus is more on them. Although the beginning is a dragging process throughout four chapters the story really picks up after Billy gets Old Dan and Little Ann. The story takes you throughout many adventures that the trio have. The combination of Little Ann's intelligence and Old Dan's determination is an interesting blend that makes it impossible for one to survive with out the other. Although different in their own ways they are always there for one another. This book is worth the time you take to read it. It is an unforgettable experience that you will encounter in this book. It is worth taking your time to read not just rushing to the end but taking your time to appreciate the artwork that Wilson Rawls creates. I haven't read many books but I must say that this was the one book that stands out from the rest that I have read. I strongly believe that this is the best book I have read. It is superior when it comes to creating a bond between the reader and the characters. Where The Red Fern Grows also includes a very memorable ending. Having Old Dan die the way he does and then Little Ann dying by his side because she loses the will to live is an image that you cannot ignore. In some way or another everyone can relate to having lost someone close to him or her. This is what makes the book so good it can relate to anyone that gives it a chance
Rating: Summary: An amazing book about a boy and his dogs Review: I loved Where the Red Fern Grows. The boy in the book really wants a couple of dogs more than anything. He has to work really hard to get them. The love between the three is amazing. I really enjoyed this book. I like the country setting and how the people have to work hard for their lives. The ending of the book is very sad, but readers of any ages will love this book.
Rating: Summary: Not a hunting fan, dog fan, country boy... Review: I read this book in my reading class in 7th grade. We got the books issued to us and read one chapter. After that I read ahead and completed the whole book in one night. (Then I got to pretty much read it over because we read the whole thing in class). This book is just really well written. Once Billy finally gets the dogs, it's heart touching. I have NEVER cried in a book except for this one. When you find out the tragedy of his dogs...it's tearjerking thinking about it. I am not a hunter, dog lover or a country boy, but this book is beautiful. The relationship between a human and a pair of dogs is just great. Ah I don't want to think about the ending to this book...it's so sad...:( Great book! It's not that long and it's really easy to read, do yourself a favor...it's a great novel.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Fantasy By:JMW Grade 5 Review: It's another day in the river bottoms and for a boy named Billy it's another day without a pair of clever hunting dogs. When growing up in a poor family exhorting his parents every single day will not be enough. But after many tiring months of saving money, Billy got the determined hounds he longed for. Even though Old Dan, the brave one and Little Ann, the smart one are two of the best hounds in the town, Billy still needed to put his dogs to the test. In a compettion the weather is rough and Old Dan and Little Ann are lost. This book is a stunning book for anyone who is bored and wants a great book to read.
Rating: Summary: great book...really touchs the heart Review: This book was required to be read in my class..thinking it was going to be boring like most of the other books we have to read i just threw it a side but when we had stated reading it i guesse i had to read to...so i picked it up..by the end of the first chapter i couldn't put it down...i stayed put late, ignored stuff..this book really distracts you from it all it takes away real life and just lets you sit there thinking about whats going on in the book and in your head..very good book i recomend this to anyone
Rating: Summary: There wasn't a dry eye in the classroom Review: I'm a 7th grade student and this was one of the books we had to read this year. we read it together, and listened to it being played on the tape recorder. While people were falling asleep in the seat beside me, I was falling in love with this book, and of course Old Dan and little Ann. It's just such a wonderful book! The scenery of the Ozark mountains are so unique that you could just see them right in front of you. And the emotion that he represented was amazing. Today we were finishing up the book, and we were reading the last two chapters. I was my cheery self (glad that Ann and Dan won the cups) but I did not expect the ending at all. I won't spoil it, but it was making my heart ache with pain. You know the feeling you get when you read a book? you feel as if the heroines in it are your best friends.I just felt little Ann's pain and Old Dan's. Everyone's eyes were wet (except for the guys) People even asked me if I was crying and I felt embarassed, but they were almost crying too. I love this book and anyone who reads it will love it. I never wanted this book to end. I wanted it to go on forever, and little ann and Old Dan to be there chasing Coons like usual. When the last word rang out into the classroom, I just couldn't close the book. It was that amazing.
