Summary: So you're debating to read this book or not.........
Review: We read Where the Red Fern Grows. In the beginning it was slow and boring because it was mostly about hunting, which isn't our favorite subject. But as the story went on it became more about Billy and the love between him and his dogs. If you're the kind of person who determines a book by the first few pages, then I wouldn't recommend it. We thought it was interesting how the dogs were so trustworthy to Billy and to each other. If you would be planning to teach your dog(s) how to hunt, you would learn a lot from this book. We are debating rating it either three stars or four. Overall we'd say it was a pretty good book.

Summary: A great book for children of ALL ages
Review: A great website about the author can be found by searching out the Idaho Falls Public Library site. The library has posted extensive research and pictures of a memorial statue.

Summary: The Best Book I have ever read!
Review: Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls is the best book I have ever read. It is so superb that I would rate it 6 stars if I could. This is no exagerration, as you can probably see from the other reviews on this website. If I only were allowed to read one book in my whole life, this would be the book definitely.

It is a story about Billy, a boy, who strives hard to earn money to buy two coon hounds. When he finally brings them home, they become fast friends and roam around the countrysides of Cherokee hunting for coons and having many exciting adventures and successful hunts. They are a wonderful threesome team who brave the natural elements and many challenges.

Love is a theme which the whole story revolves around. We can see the deep love between Little Ann and Old Dan (the coon hounds) who refuse to hunt without each other, and when both of them fight courageously against the mountain lion.

Although the ending is not a happy one and will leave everyone in tears, this twist of plot adds to the flawlessness of this amazing story.

Everyone absolutely must read this book, regardless of age. I read this book when I was 15, and I did not find it too childish or simple, and I believe I will reread it again some day, because I believe that every read will bring different feelings and memories to me.

Summary: Where the Red Fern Grows
Review: I think that this was a really good book! It's a book that makes me want to work hard because like the book good things happen when you work hard. Also it is kind of sad in the end because both of the dogs die and I love dogs. I also liked the book because it shows you can do anything if you put your mind to it! Like Billy said "My dogs will find the coon! Just wait!" He nver lost faith in his dogs even if the chances are slim and with that him and his dogs went far!

Summary: It will stay with me forever!
Review: I'm 23 and read this book when I was 9. I still remember the story to this day. It was that awesome! I remember laughing and crying and loving these sweet dogs. I've always had a special place in my heart for hounds after I read this book. Don't pass this one by. If you never read it as a child, read it today.

Summary: Wonderful
Review: I absolutely loved this book growing up. I've read it at least eight times and it makes me cry again and again. It is the essential tale of a boy and his dogs in the mountains during the depression. It has enough action to keep kids interested, but parents be warned that there are some intense scenes in it and it doesn't exactly end on a happy note, not to give anything away. I would still highly recommend it. It's beautifully written. The characters are all developed well, even the dogs. Buy it for them and even the most reluctant reader won't be able to put it down.

Summary: 4-Star Read
Review: Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls, is a very good book. I gave it 4 stars. This book is about a boy who really wants two hunting dogs. He saves up enough money to buy the two hounds. He was so excited he could not wait one more week to walk into town to pick up the dogs. He walks 30 miles instead of waiting. People were making fun of him and laughing at him. He was so happy to get his dogs! He taught them to be great hunters. They even won a gold cup. The dogs tried to hunt a mountain lion and Old Dan got really hurt and died. Little Ann was so lonely and heartbroken she died too. He buried the dogs right next to each other. The two dogs would never do anything without each other and they loved each other so much. This is a great book and I would recommend it.

Summary: ahhhhh,precious memories
Review: I read this novel (except it was under the title of 'Hunters of Cherokee Country') way back in grade four which seems eons ago. As a boy this way my favourite story and i became completely obsessed with it.(I even wanted to become a racoon hunter like Billy and live in the Ozarks).
Where the red fern grows is one of those special books, which if your a kid will transport you back 1 century in time and keep you there for quite a while.
If you are lucky enough to be in your pre-teen years still, start reading this immediatly. You'll be hooked after the first paragraph.
