Rating: Summary: Most beautiful literature of all time Review: It was 8th grade in Mrs. Clark's class that I first held this book in my hands. At first, I thought of course that any book that was being forced upon us, was not worthy of a second glance. But, my teacher assigned it and in order to pass the quizzes- I had to look twice. As I read this I realized that this was no ordinary book, but one that told it like it is. John and Lorraine are very realistic characters and I could relate to each of them in different aspects of their personalites. I really just want to let anyone that is thinking of reading this book to go for it. It's the perfect glimpse into highschool life, and hey if you want to The Pigman's Legacy is also brilliant. Paul Zindel is one of the greatest writers of all time and can make you feel something when you read these stories. It's highly recomended. (PS to Paul Zindel- if you ever stumble upon this, send me an e-mail I'd love to ask you some questions...
Rating: Summary: The cannot-put-it-down-book! Review: This book was one of my summer reading books and I had to read this during summer break. I thought, "Why do I have to read these books during summer vacation? What! The title is The Pigman? Man, it's gonna be another dull book..." Wrong! You might think that it's a weird and a funny title but it's a great book for teens! There are two high school students and they both like to phone people they don't know. Once they phoned a man and he seemed old and lonely. They told themselves that they were people who donate money and asked him if he wanted to volunteer, too. Once they got to his house to collect his money, they thought that this was an easy way to earn money. However for the second time they went to his house, it was different.... This isn't a horror story nor a fantasy story, but it's a fiction story. Believe me, it was great! I could not put this book down and finished like in two days!
Rating: Summary: A Touching Life Story! Review: The Pigman really inspired me. it was really touching! Something the whole family should read!:)
Rating: Summary: keeps on given Review: I first read this in Jr high school and was mesmerized by the characters and their story. Zindel made me feel like I was part of the group. I am now 39 years old and still pick the book up. I even bought the sequel to enjoy the adventure. I would recomend this book for youth and adults. what else can I say about a book that I was assigned to read in an english class over 20 years ago then go through the trouble to search it out to reread again and have it in my own personal collection. I LOVE this book.
Rating: Summary: Makes you think about life Review: I think this is probably one of the best books Paul Zindel has ever wrote. mr. Zindel did such a good job writing thhis book because when you read it you feel like you are with John and Lorraine as they have their zany misadventures. I really liked the fact that Mr. Zindel made John and Lorraine like regular teen-agers who sometimes rebel by skipping school, drinking and smoking. I really am sick of reading about how a couple of puritan teen-agers go through high school without ever saying a couple of cuss words or getting into a little bit of trouble. I also thought it was great that Lorraine wasn't a super model but still managed to have fun. READ THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: "The Pigman" Review: "The Pigman" was a good book for all ages. This bookhad many times which teenagers could relate too, but it also showedthe valuable lessons that followed. In htis book John and Lorraine learned that "life is what you make it, nothing more, nothing less." This book was also appealing because of all its little stick figure drawings that went with the games that went on in the book and hte actual childrens handwriting on the desks. This book was very humorous, like when hte rollerbalded out of hte mall not even caring. But it was also very emotional. When John and Lorraine met the pigamn they felt something they had never felt before, love. Then thye got very involved with the pigamn, they got so involved they even hurt him by destroying the place he desired the most. I think it was a great book!
Rating: Summary: The Pigman Review: Paul Zindel is a wonderful young adult author. Such workispresented in his first book titled "The Pigman." Thereason why I would recommend this book to all young adult readers is because this book offers valuable lessons and most importantly it relates to adolescent readers, it is as if the book talks to the reader. To begin, this book offers a different type of style. Such style is different of any other young adult author, for "The Pigman" offers dual narrators. Such style makes this book more interesting and appeling to both females and males not to mention more interesting and exciting. But I would like to concentrate on one human concern that develops through out the story. For such concern demonstrates the authors value for young adult readers. The human concern that I would like to discuss is RESPONSIBILITY. For Lorraine and John both take large steps toward maturity as they face consequences for not being responsible. In the story while Lorraine, John, and Mr.Pignati(nicknamed the Pigman) are roller skating the Pigman suffers a heart attack. While he is in the hospital Lorraine and John betray his trust and decide to have a party in the Pigman's home. The party gets out of hand and some of Mr. Pignati's valuables get broken, such as his glass pig collection and his wife's clothing, who has passed away. As hurt as the Pigman felt about there behavior he still forgives them. But he soon suffers another second heart attack ... Such concern as well as many more concerns are found in the book "The Pigman." As I said before this book offers valuable lessons for after reading this book young adult readers learn that all actions come with a responsibility. For some actions can even lead to death as in "The Pigman."
Rating: Summary: This is the best book I have ever read. Review: I read this book for my ISU. I was surprised by the quality of the book. It talks about the life of two lonely, empty teenagers. Both of their parents are cold and don't express love towards them. They feel unloved by the others and they have no goals to achieve. However, the meeting of an old lonely guy called Pignati changed their lives. They start to care about each other and change the threes' lives. This book is very touching. The way that the author organized the book is brilliant.I strongly recommend you to read this.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite books of all time Review: I thought I wouldn't like this book when I had to read it forEnglish class. But now I love the book. It's written basically forteenagers, but I guess anybody could read it. You really get to learn about teenagers in this book, their emotions and such and how one would respect somebody. Mr. Pignati was obviously a role model for John and Lorraine. He made them understand things about life that are hard to understand. You couldn't ask for a better book by Zindel. If it doesn't make you cry, if it doesn't touch you, if you don't get a strong point from it --- then you're not human.
