Summary: The Pigman
Review: "The Pigman" is about John and Lorraine, two normal teenagers who find a friend with Mr. Pignati, the Pigman. Mr. Pignati is old and lonely and maybe even depressed because his wife died earlier and he only has things like her dresses and tons of glass, clay, and other kinds of figures of pigs that she used to collect to remind him of her. However, Mr. Pignati soon takes a liking to John and Lorraine because they're rare visitors and soon they are all going to the zoo together and Mr. Pignati is doing all he can to make them happy. John and Lorraine try not to take advantage of the Pigman, but he's just way too generous.

I thought "The Pigman" was a pretty good book. The story isn't one of the more compelling ones I've read, but it was interesting enough to make me want to keep reading it to see what was going to happen. It's mainly about 3 lonely people who need each other and take things for granted, which can lead to something bad happening. If you like books like that, I would recommend reading "The Pigman," it's a good read.

Summary: Pigman
Review: I have read this book and i found it very interesting. I liked some things such as when Pigman and the 2 kids went skating through the store. I also liked when they dressed up in Pigmans and his wifes clothing.Another thing I liked was when they had the party. Some things i didnt like was that it started really slow. I also dislikedthat John was portrayed to be addicted to beer and cigarettes. The only other thing i did not like was that at the end, it didnt say what happened to John And Lorraine. Other than that i really liked the book. It was better than another book i was reading called"Deerslayer" because your book was more interesting

Summary: Zindel at His Weakest
Review: I don't understand why this particular book has become a regular part of high school and middle school curricuae. I read it years ago (more years than I wish to reveal!), and thought it was a real downer about two reprehensible, thoughtless characters whose combined insensitivity leads to tragedy. It seems kind of extreme that a character should have to die in order to drive home a simple point about respect to these kids. Mr. Pignati is turned into a victim for the sake of making a heavy-handed point, and I hate that sort of thing.

Zindel, however, is a unique writer, and I wish kids and teachers would focus on "Pardon Me, You're Stepping On My Eyeball" instead.

Summary: Wow!
Review: When I first got handed this book a week ago, I thought, 'Oh, no! Not ANOTHER boring book!' But I was wrong. This book is wonderful. The love and kindness, recklessness and childishness of the characters make this book a joy to read. To understand all this, go out and read the book!

Summary: Wow!
Review: The Pigman was assigned for me to read in my eighth grade english class and I thought it was going to be horrible. I was wrong. It was one of the best books I have ever read. The Pigman was a sweet man. He was just like Santa. Even though he was a fictional character he taught me lessons. John and lorraine made me see that I wasn't alone in the teenage world and that there were others like me and in their own way, also taught me lessons. I was so sad to when the Pigman left me. It was like he was really there in my life. i love you pigman.

Summary: The Pigman
Review: An innocent crank phone call made by a girl and boy named John and Lorraine leads to a tragedy. If you like love stories and mysteries you will sure love this book. Two teenagers named John and Lorraine make friends with an elderly man named Angelo Pignati. When they got on the phone they had no intension of making a friend. Well, they get to know him and find out he is a very lonely old man. They feel sorry for him, but do enjoy his company. John and Lorraine are like the light that illuminates the Pigman's (Angelo Pignati) life. They all have a very close bond. Then all of a sudden horror breaks loose. A terrible tragedy and secret emerge. To find out what happens you must read this great book. I really think you will enjoy it. On a scale of 1-5 I give it a 5.

Summary: You Have To Like The Pigman
Review: You have to like the Pigman--I mean, you have to like the title character. He fits into that rare, elite group of famous literary characters that capture your heart: Mr. Chips, in Goodbye, Mr. Chips; Jim in Huckleberry Finn; Matryona in Solzhenitsyn's story, "Matryona's House," et. al. The sadness over the loss of his wife, how the love that he had for her becomes clouded in his denial that she is gone (she is merely visiting in California), and the compassion the Pigman has for John and Lorraine make for a complex, charming character. You have to like him.

I also enjoyed the narrative style of alternating voice back and forth between John and Lorraine, although later in the book it blurred and became more difficult to see who was actually speaking. Still, it was a fresh technique and worked well for the nature of the story.

There is something about Original Sin, or the dark side, or that bit of evil in all of us in this short novel. Why does John throw such a lavish party in the Pigman's house? What makes him take advantage of the hurt and wounded Pigman so badly? I think we have all done inexiplicably bad things once or more times and we have to stand back and ask ourselves, 'Why?' or at least, reflect on what is in us that has such a malacious capacity. This quality reminds me of A Separate Piece.

Overall, it is a quick-paced, terse novel that has some complexity of characters and their motives. Thus, it is very enjoyable to read.

Summary: Terrific
Review: This book is a great literary outing. John and Lorraine are characters who interact well with each other, and Mr. Pignati is quite believable as a sad old man. However, beware: another great Paul Zindel book, A Begonia for Miss Applebaum, is basically a carbon copy of this one, written post it.
