Rating: Summary: nicely done Review: i found this book to be an exceptional book in the series. My favorite characters are Brag and Saro. Jauques should take the time to write a book about the exploits of theses mischevious characters. I love the message in the book that if your will is strong enough you can do anything (when martha stood up and walked). i am an avid redwall/lord of the rings / pendragon / deltora quest / belgariad fan and this is definitly one of the best books ive ever read (with the exception of taggerung). Also i gave it only four stars because i was dissapointed that the cover didn't have the wonderful wraparound illustrations.
Rating: Summary: One of the BEST Redwall books EVER! Review: I got Loamhedge for Christmas and thought it was an amazing book. It just shows what a great writer Brian Jacques is because he can carry on writing so many terrific books about the same general subject. I hope he writes more Redwall books and I highly recommend this book to people who want a good, long, satisfying read.
Rating: Summary: The Redwall series is deteriorating. (contains spoilers) Review: I have loved the Redwall books for a long time. But now, after reading the sixteenth book of the series, the books are getting worse. The villains are no longer vile and ruthless. Martha Braebuck is a goody-goody. The quest to Loamhedge is pointless and gets my favorite characters killed. Lonna is just like all the other badgers in the whole blasted series, except he has a girly name. As for the feasting and songs, same old, same old. It was a decent book in itself, but compared to the rest of the series, not so.
Rating: Summary: The BEST Redwall book EVER Review: I have only ever loved two series truly. Robert Stanek's wonderfully written The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches and Brian Jacques Redwall, authors who can tell a story like few others and even as an adult I love and cherish their stories.Loamhedge is wildly exciting. Haremaid, Martha Braebuck can no longer walk due to a terrible thing that happened to her. Her life changes when Martin the Warrior comes to her in her dreams and tells her about a secret in the abbey that may help her walk again. Soon Braggon the otter and Sarobando the squirrel come for a visit and decide to help Martha. Meanwhile, Redwall is besieged by the searat Raga Bol. That's how it all begins. Great reading and recommended to all ages. Good for adults too.
Rating: Summary: Redwall Rocks Review: I have read all the Redwall books 3 times, & I am looking forward to reading this one! It looks awesome!
Rating: Summary: Four and half stars for an entertaining and fun read! Review: I just got finished reading Loamhedge no more than thirty seconds ago and I must say it is a rather good departure from the usual Redwall books.
Usual in his books Mr. Jacques has vivid descriptions and colorful accounts of abbey life. While this is still true in this book it does not take a paragraph to establish the same effect. It seems like there is less time spent on food and fun and more on questing. That's really nice and maybe a sign that he's reading a reviews or he's trying something new.
Also the descriptions are more raw and sanguinary for a children's book. That's not to say he describes it like a horror book, but he does actually spend a few more words on the fighting scenes and their effects.
This book does have one drawback, which lead to half a star being deducted. It seems to me like after the author wrote the book he realized that he needed another chapter or two to make sure he can tie everything together. Seeing that he didn't, it seems like some events were written so that they didn't have to be explained in more detail or just plain left not explained. When you get to the end of the book, you'll get my point.
However, it's harrowing tale and energetic characters are fun and lively. And while Horty got on my nerves a few times, he was a necessary part. All in all a great Redwall book. Not the best, but certainly great!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Story Review: I read this book about a month ago, and I was well satrisfied with it. However, I found certain events in the book too random. One example is Martha's "cure", which makes the journey by the five adventurers just so pointless. In addition the sequence with the evil cultist vermin and their leader-the Wearat,I think was its name-was put in there when Mr. Jacques said to himself "Hmm, i need to get rid of these two characters, why don't I have them sacrifice themselves to defeat this bad guy I'd barely introduced before." It made me angry.
I also didn't understand why there had to be two separate bands of verimin attacking Redwall. It seemed a little bizzare and wasteful. I did like Badredd's gang, though.
I found Lonna quite creepy. Usually in Redwall stories good guys so obsessed with killing are calmed down, not Lonna, though. I think Mr. Jacques had a hard time trying to decide whether Horty was supposed to be annoying or heroic, so he went from being the complete spoiled brat to being a self-sacrificing heroic fighterman. Very inconsistant.
Still a godd book, but an uneven one.
Rating: Summary: Tom Clancey Special Forces Review: I really enjoyed Tom Clancey's Special Forces. It talk alot about how you need to be the best you can be, and how you need to put your life on the line and die for your country. It also talks about special tactics, special tactics meaning using special techniques to sneek around and kill your target with out a sound or with out anyone knowing your there. So if your in to being sneeky like an Indian, or like a silent killer, Tom Clancey's Special Forces is the keen book for any young or old silent killer I mean reader.
Rating: Summary: It's okay. not the best. Review: I thought this book was good. It was interesting to read, but nothing els i'm afraid. I think the bad guys in the book was never really developed. (like cluny) They're always killed by another big enemy before their characteristic were developed and they ALL seemed the same thick headed cowardly enemy only with different forms. I think they also die too quickly. The story also seemed..... recycled. the first part about enemies attacking Redwall (AGAIN) and the second part when the badger looks for the vermin. His story is almost like Sunmace (think that was his name.) Other then that it was good. Not Brian's best work, but good. But i think he should introduce some new animals, maybe a live wolf etc.
Rating: Summary: Almost a 5 Review: I was really hoping when I had heard that this book was called "Loamhedge" that it was more about the long-lost abbey. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed that it was merely about a journey to the ruins and not a story about it. I had been hoping for some more history of the beginnings of Redwall. Still, the book, like all of Jacques works, is filled with adventure and intrigue, happiness and sadness, danger and more. I proudly add this book to my collection!
