Summary: Fowl and Potter
Review: Artemis Fowl is a 12-year-old irish kid whose propoension to crime comes from an ancient family background. Now, on the verge of the 21th century, his father is missing, his mother is half-crazy and the money is beginning to shorten. Artemis, with the help of faithful servants, the Butlers, devises a plan to steal some money - gold - from the Fairy People. The Fairy People, composed of dwarves, centaurs, goblins, trolls, and, of course, fairies, live in the underground, away from human eyes - the Mud People. They have magic, spells and a very good technological environment to ensure a quiet living in the nether regions. To prevent Artemis from stealing their gold, enter the scene Captain Holly Short and Commander Root, two of the foremost people in the LEPrecon, the police force of the Fairies.

To continue with the review, I will compare Artemis with Harry Potter - mainly HP's first book. This can and should be done because both books were released only few years apart, both are directed to pre-adolescent and teenager readers and both have similar protagonists. While Harry Potter's nature is good and even naive, Artemis Fowl is dark, plotish and ambushing. He rarely makes mistakes. Potter is a loner, at least in the beginning of the series, and Fowl is the thinking head of a company of crooks. Thus, Fowl's universe is darker. But Artemis, even being a kid-thief, is the main character of the story, and if the readers didn't like him, the series would be a flop. That's the biggest difficulty faced by author Colfer: he must keep his choice of creating an evil character, imagine coherent evil things he will do, and still be able to make the readers relate to Artemis in a good way. Colfer made it, at least in this first book.

The magical, fairy-peopled world created by Colfer is also very different from Rowling's non-muggler world. Here, there's no ultimate evil - Voldemort - because evil is personyfied by Artemis. Goblins, trolls and dwarves still are plenty - the Tolkien legacy - but in HP the setting is always the magical world of Hogwarts, while in AF the real world and the magical world are depicted together, and that may be not so easy to get into the reader's mind.

Which leads us to the jackpot question: which is better, Fowl or Potter? First of all, we have to consider Colfer's genious touch, creating an EVIL character, in contrast to the always righteous Harry Potter. This is a very intelligent twist and even a challenge to the irish author creative vein. I think Rowling created a more complex and developed universe, settings and characters in her masterpiece. But I must not forget that I have read HP's 4 books, and this is my first from AF series. Maybe the next Artemis books will provide the development and complexness that somewhat lacked in the first one.

Nevertheless, "Artemis Fowl" is the work of a talented author and a sure fun reading. No doubt I wish to know Artemis' future adventures.

Summary: Harry Potter eat your heart out!!!
Review: When Artemis Fowl kidnaps Holly Short the faerie, he doesn't know what he has taken on. These ARE NOT the faeries of bedtime stories. They are armed with Guns and Gadgets aeons ahead of ours, and they don't like mud people. Artemis Fowl has become Public Enemy Number 1 and the LEPrecon unit (the lower elements police) want their Commander back. Artemis and his Butler (who is one of the most dangerous men on the planet) battle it out with the faeries to gain control of the ransom gold in retrn for their faerie. THIS IS A MMUUSSTT READ. A+++ *****

Summary: Wow...speechless!
Review: My expectations were low when I first picked up this book. I kept reading it and it turned out that I absolutely loved it! It has a lot of intrigue and magic dissimilar to the Harry Potter series. The story has dry British humor and an excellent plot line! I finished this book in one day...it has so much intrigue! Eoin Colfer writes amazing novels. FIVE stars!

Summary: The best book ever.
Review: When I first started reading this book, I thought "Wow! What a great book!" And I still thought so after reading it. You'll love the main characters, and you'll love the story. There is nothing in this book that you won't love.
The way the author tells the story makes you wish that it'll never end.

Summary: A very Good Book.
Review: This book is great. I've read it twice now. The Plot is magnificent, and the main character is a theif which usually doesn't happen. I think that this book has a lot of suspense and full of action. I love the humor and the fact that Artemis deals with fairys to get what he wants. I think that this book would be great for any kid above eight because of the things they talk about. I like author's writing style it fits well with the action of the book.

Summary: Twelve-year Old Master Mind
Review: Posted Reviews

Artemis Fowl is a stupendous fantasy book by Eoin Colfer. It stars a young boy named Artemis Fowl who is way smarter then an average 13 year old boy. Artemis along with his butler capture a fairy named Holly Short. Fortunatly for Artemis Holly is a captain of the LEPrecon Unit (the millitary for fairies) so he holds her for ransom. The fairies try to get Holly back but it won't be easy with all of the booby-traps Artemis laid around his estate. Mr. Colfer did a wonderful job of creating a world where pre-teens are in charge.

Summary: awsome book
Review: Artemis Fowl keeps you hooked on the book like Harry Potter but is read in only a fraction of the time. This book has plenty of humor which I think most similar books lack in some areas.

When I first picked up the book I thought I woudn't like it because it was about fairies but it follows alot closer to "The Lord of the Rings" story line rather than midevil fantasy about dragons that nobody can compare with.

Summary: I can't believe I like it
Review: I picked this up after seeing how much fan fiction there is out there for the Artemis Fowl universe.

This is a great book for fluff reading. The plot is compact, the writing simple but not simplistic. Even though myths are mixed in with the latest in technology everything sounds believable, which is pretty unbelievable in itself

Summary: Artemis Fowl
Review: Artemis Fowl, a 12 year old mastermind criminal genius that is planning the scheme of the century by kidnapping Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit for a ransom. By doing this, not only will he regian his family fortune, but he'll also gain too many enemies to count. He will encounter a Retrieval team, a dwarf, a bio-bomb, and not to mention a very feisty troll.
Artemis will encounter many twists and turns, and problems that even he may be able to solve for the sake of the mission, the manor, and the closest thing he'll have for a family.
