Rating: Summary: Disappointed yet Intrigued Reader Review: I bought the first three books(I'm guess there is supposed to be more) and when I cracked the first one I felt there was something missing. The characters seems to be stale and overly animated to make up for it. I read on, thinking that it would get better, but I'm sorry to report I stopped halfway through the third "novel" and can't bring myself to finish reading the series. However, on the upside, I believe the book was written for younger readers that may still need the stereotypical characters to help them understand the non-existant dynamics of this book.So as not to be completely harsh, I enjoyed the premise of the book moreso than the writing itself and found the ideas it presented interesting if not overly absorbing.
Rating: Summary: An Absolute Delight!! Review: Artemis Fowl is a wonderful children's book! As an adult, I found the book to be humorous, intriguing and loved the child villain, Artemis Fowl and his entire arsenal of extremely diabolical plans. Bravo to the female character, Holly Short, who is the real hero, or should I say heroine in this story! Eoin Colfer does a great job portraying Holly as smart, ingenious and quick thinking with all the nastiness going on! The realm of fairies is magical and this book helps bring it to life! I never heard of any hype comparing this series to Harry Potter or even trying to bridge the gap between the Harry books, so I will just say that read this book for itself and try not to compare it to Harry, as this book stands on its own in the genre of fantasy. My 13 year old and 14 year old loved the book and begged me to read it! I am sure glad I did! There are many great elements to this book, which will appeal to children and keep them captivated and wanting reading the sequels! I found the book to be an absolute delight and would encourage any youngster to read it!
Rating: Summary: Clever, but slow Review: This book is very interesting. I give it the four stars for the fact that it is very clever with many smart statements of comments. I would say that the author is very skillful in the sense that he obviously knows a lot as far as technology and magic goes, but the problem with this book is that the high-tech info and the weaponry know-how gets a bit boring after a while, and it slows the pace of the storyline down a lot. I suggest you give it a go. Maybe try the library first.
Rating: Summary: Good light read. Nice twist on "fairy tales" Review: Ok, I'm an adult. But I love children's books. This is well written but is more of a "boy" book. There is some good old fashioned potty humor thrown in with good writing. I enjoyed the story and concept. I like that there is a good within the book you can decode (although I did not do it). The only caution I would give to parents is that there are some violent scenes in the book and you may want to read first for your smaller children. Definitely worth the read but not as well developed as some other "magical" stories.
Rating: Summary: Artemis is book fit for god Review: If Artemis Fowl is "die hard with fairies," than Holly Short has to be Burce Willis. The book is packed with hysterical lines and quotes that will change the way you look on all other fairy tales. The books tells the hysterical story of criminal mastermind, Artemis fowl, his sidekick or martial arts master, Butler, rebelious "police" officer, Holly Short, paranoid centuar, Faoly and commander root. The basic plot is Holly is kidnapped by artemis who plots to get a ransom from the others fairies. only until its to late does Artemis relize that hes bitten off morte than he can handle. The main reason I love this book is the fact that the "bad guy" wins. you never see that in stories anymore, until now. this is most definatly a land mark novel, sort of like Gone with the wind, prioncess bride and Ivanhoe.
Rating: Summary: Extremely good book and very original depiction of magic Review: Almost everyone has read a book involving magic and faeries, but there have been none that have taken Eoin Colfer's approach. I picked this book up after a friend said it was fantastic. I was a little skeptical and thought it may be just another remake of fairy stories. This book is not that at all. In fact, this book is incredibly original and introduces a non steriotypical fairy race. Anyone in search of a good book should look no further than Artemis Fowl.
Rating: Summary: Disappointment galore! Review: What a disappointment. People say if you like Harry Potter you'll like Artemis Fowl. Not a chance. I regret buying and reading it. I wouldn't even recommend checking it out from the library. The characters are all shallow and flat. The story wasn't even amusing...
Rating: Summary: Big disappointment Review: After all of the great reviews, I was very excited about reading Artemis Fowl. However, it proved very disapointing. I might have enjoyed this a little more when I was for. It is a very young book and I do not reccomend it. I was also disappointed that the main charactor is a comeplete jerk. He is a jerk. The whole book you wait for the spoiled brat to become good but he never does.
Rating: Summary: Just a book Review: When you start this book is an excellent book, but when it stars with fairy tales, you have two options, you leave the book or you read it with other mind, with a childish mind, if you do the second point as I did you will enjoy reading this book, that's for sure, the book will not give anything but a good time while you read, but is not what anybody want while reading a book?
Rating: Summary: Spazzer's Comments Review: Thank God I did not but this book, but checked it at the library. I wouldn't say it's complete utter crap but I don't understand why people like it so much. First of all, I would like to point out that his feelings are mainly stereotypical. I can't imagine anyone feeling THAT way when intelligent, with a guard, and finding fairies. He should have some respect for his parents. Anyway, this book would mainly appeal to the younger audience. Don't buy the book, just check it out first, cuz you might regret it later.
