Summary: Lots of Fun
Review: I'm a mother of an 8 year old, so I read a lot of children's books. This one is without a doubt ranks up there with the most enjoyable. I found myself laughing out loud in public, and I had as much fun cracking the code that runs along the bottom of each page as my kid. (maybe even more!) Very fun book! Witty, intelligent, fun read!

Summary: I Loved This Book
Review: Harry Potter....Not Harry Potter....blah, blah, blah. This book stands on it's own and is wonderful and inventive and likeable.Very smoothly written. I don't know..I just liked it. It was fun to relax and let my imagination go and visit the bizarre little world created in this book. Yes, I am an adult who, on occasion, enjoys so-called childrens' books and hang me out to dry but Harry Potter doesn't do much for me..there, I've said it.So, get this book and also "Cirque du Freak" and then graduate to anything by Jonathan Carroll. Have Fun!

Summary: Artemis Fowl was never meant to be Harry Potter...
Review: For those of you looking for something along the lines of J.K.Rowlings' wonderful Harry Potter books, keep looking. However, if you want a decent, quick read, enjoy fantasy elements (e.g., elves, centaurs, trolls, magic, etc.), and don't mind something different, then by all means give Artemis Fowl a chance. I enjoyed reading the book, but I won't add it to my list of favorites anytime soon. Colfer does a pretty good job of creating an interesting mix of science and fantasy, and the title character is certainly different. However, the characterization is a little weak (you don't really feel for these characters), and the use of guns and weapons are a little disturbing for a "children's book". I know that one of the attractions of the Harry Potter books to the children that love the series is that it doesn't seem to be written simply for children - they have a real edge to them. However, it seems that Colfer just tried to capitalize on that and push the limit. In a nutshell, at times I was captivated and at others I was bored, but a decent weekend day's entertainment and nothing else special.

Summary: Harry Potter Substitute-slightly amusing, but no Harry...
Review: This book, an obvious Harry Potter wanna-be, just makes the grade (in my opinion) to be a Harry Potter Sustitute....This book has just enough humor and intigue to make the grade. Some may love it-some may hate it-it's just that kind of book. But it's worth a try....

Summary: What's Ireland Coming to?
Review: Little did I know growing up in Ireland that all those bumps in the night were fairies and Mud People fighting to the death in he shadows, zapping each other with Ray guns and such. And I was scared of Ming as he hounded Flash Gordon at the locat picture House.? Really loved this book, and I hate sci-fi. I never read Harry Potter though there are several copies lying around the house. Buy because when the movie come out and you are the only kid on the block not knowing what is going on your name is going to be mud. (Joke there but you have to read the book to get it.)

Summary: One Heck of a Book
Review: I liked this book better than Harry Potter because its different: The main character is the bad guy, for example. It was a very thrilling novel. It was totally unpredictable, you didn't know who was going to win--which is quite unusual in a kid's book. If you liked The Golden Compass for its dark side and are around 11 years old, I predict you'll like this book. I hope this review was helpful to you

Summary: Finally!
Review: This is a great book for the "tweener" age group, and in that respect, it is like Harry Potter. Why on earth it is being compared to HP, I'll never know! Maybe because the author is from the UK... but that is IT! It is a great read, very exciting and would have great appeal for the middle school boy, who can be a bit hard to please! But, my 9 year old girl LOVED it and has her fingers crossed for a sequel. Which only goes to prove: A good book is a good book and will appeal to all ages and both genders! Buy this book and read it before everyone else does!
