Summary: Not Harry Potter but not bad
Review: I'll agree with Mr. Andrew Platt in that a child will love it but a child at heart will not quite love it as much. Then again, I read Silence of the Lambs when I was Artemis's age, so I still might have been a tad disappointed reading "Artemis Fowl" at age 12...then again, the dark elements would have been right up my alley. The book is at a lower reading level than the Harry Potter books but does not "dumb down" subject matter for kids. This is like Law & Order in fairie land, so the seriousness of the police work adds a nice twist I wasn't expecting. Artemis is like Lucius Malfoy as a kid (sorry, another Harry reference) but the reader can feel some sympathy for him and detect a little more depth to his character when you see what his parents are like.

The best way to enjoy this book is to NOT hold it up to Harry Potter expectations. Hard for the fans to do, but I still think this book is a creative breath of fresh air in a society that has to make everything sugar-coated and safe and bland for children...and I know you kids are a lot more thoughtful than you're given credit. Just ask Artemis.

Summary: The Start of Something Big
Review: Artemis Fowl is a character for the new century. He is not a hero. Indeed, he is not likeable by any stretch. Young Master Fowl is nasty, mean, arrogant and greedy, but somehow sympathetic and intriguing. We want to know more. This introductory novel reads well, it moves quickly and keeps interest up. Eoin Colfer spins the tale masterfully, spicing it with sprinkles of history, mythology and modern technology. A 12-year old plotting to steal Leprechaun gold? A centaur who is the IT guy for The People? Colfer introduces colorful, creative characters that somehow meld seamlessly. It is a combination that would be difficult for anyone, let alone a new author. Colfer offers the promise of many enjoyable tales to come. Artemis Fowl is obviously written for young adults, but will be popular with many ages. I can't wait to read the next one!

Summary: I think I'm in love
Review: I'm absolutely terrified of making a synopsis of any kind here, because of my knack for making books sound a lot worse than they are. But I can, however, say that this book is most definitely one of my favourites. I'm am just THRILLED with the way Artemis started out as an evil little boy... and STAYED like that for once. He didn't "see the error in his ways" and he didn't suddenly become all nice and mushy and become a nice person. No, he was evil, and he stayed evil, and that is just another thing that makes this book so darn cool and original.

And then the plot was just awesome. This is one of those one-of-a-kind books in which you just cannot guess what will happen next. It does not follow any basic plotlines seen in a lot of books, it has one completely interestig and unique to itself. I also found the characters to be very well-developed and intriguing, and very believable.

All in all, Artemis Fowl is an incredible book, and I definitely recommend it to everyone and of every age. It is an awesome book.

Summary: A Great Book to Read
Review: Artemis Fowl is an interesting book. It is about a criminal mastermind. He discovers the world of the faeries and kidnaps one of them, but he is unaware that these faeries are dangerious.
The book, in general, is well organized, and interesting. It has many twists and turns. However, the language is awkward and hard to understand part of the time.

Summary: Faires at the bottom of the garden now come packing
Review: Artemis Fowl a new villain for a new century and at only twelve years old he may last into the 22nd century if not killed before he reaches his 15th birthday. Artemis with his sidekick/bodyguard Butler starts his first major criminal activity with the kidnap and ransoming of a faerie for the gold. But the lovely faerie we think off from the bottom of our garden is not what he captures, but an ass-kicking, high-Tec L.E.P.Recon female police officer with an all-round bad attitude, an underground equivalent of the human SWAT officer, but better equipped with more advanced kit. So when the fairies do not want to hand over the gold mayhem ensures.

This is a fast paced book, which comes to an end all too quickly, leaving you yearning for more (luckily there 2 more). So if War & Peace is length of a book you like to read then be disappointed, this is for a dank afternoon to bring a little sunshine to the day,

Summary: Good and Bad
Review: Artemis Fowl was good and bad at the same time. I couldn't really get the characters at first and the "People's" names were hard and complicated. But this book had a sense of humor and was full of action. (Although I could not really understand it!) But overall, it was a cool book.

Summary: Artemis Fowl Book Review
Review: This book was an excellent adventure. It had the cleverness of a Sherlock Holmes story and the magic of a Harry Potter book. The characters were completely different from one another, which gave the book a certain roundness.
I found Artemis Fowl to be a wonderful character, perhaps because he is a much smarter person than the most of us. Eoin Colfer did a wonderful job making this completely wacky world and to keep you wanting to read more. A lot of books taper off nearer to the end, but he prevented this by making the sequels and this makes people automatically interested in what happens next. Two thumbs up for Artemis Fowl!

Summary: A Clever Mix of Humor and Action
Review: The first time I read this book, when I was nine or so, I really loved it and completely devoured it. Now, several years later, after re-reading it, I must say I appreciate it less. Now, don't get me wrong, Colfer has written a great master-peice for children, with (as my title suggests) a pleasent mix of humor and fantasy, and the charecters are interesting to say the least. The prespective of the book is quite interesting as the main charecter is a twelve-year-old crime lord from one of the richest European families in the world.
I think that half of the appeal of this novel is, although Artimis is hardly a beleivable charecter, (and I don't mean that in a bad way) with his sharp intellect, cleverness and disregard for laws, rules and any trace of legimate activities, he is everything a modern child dreans of being. Even some of his hardships are appealing such as the loss of his father in one of his "buisness ventures" and the insanity of his mather due to his father's death.

As for the fairies, what can I say? They are most certainly not the stereo-type magical being with their high-tech society and human-like personality, but, although I really, really appreciate them as well-rounded and great charecters, they are most likely a good part of the reason that this book didn't scrape 5 stars. You see, they seemed sort of unbeleivable and corny in a way that could have been easily been avoided (the thought of dwarfs being able to immit gas and mud at a good 60 miles per hour out of their back-side comes readily to mind) and the fight with Butler against the troll at the end seemed a little...er...staged if you know what I mean.

But, all in all, this is a good, quick read for young and older children alike, even if the older children feel that it fails to keep up with the pace of modern day science fiction and fantasy.

Summary: Had to force myself to finish this book.
Review: This book wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either. I won't be reading the sequels, as I had to force myself to finish this one.
I have a feeling the author threw the book together hoping for a Potter-like movie deal. The characters are cardboard and could have been better developed with a little effort. I really didn't care for Artemis at all.

Summary: clever interesting novel
Review: Artemis Fowl is like no book I've ever read. In the book there's an evil boy genius and good high tech faries. I'ts funny because you actually like both sides. I think I like this book because of the on-going suspence. Things happen unexpectedly.
This book is about a boy whose father is lost. Artemis Fowl's plan is to get fairy gold to hire a rescue team to find his father. Getting fairy gold isn't easy. Artemis comes up with evil schemes that even outsmart the fairies. Fairy tecnology is 10x greater than the mudpeoples (human) technology. Oh yeah, did I mention that this kid is only twelve! Artemis's big scheme is to kidnap a fairy for ransom. He kidnaps a recon officer preforming her ritual. The LEP (lower elements police) want Captain Holly Short back. Find out how far the LEP will go to get Holly back.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read, likes clever planning, and is really dedicated to reading and won't give up on the first chapter. The vocabulary in this book is only a little tougher than normal, but hey, even I can understand it. There's even a second and third book too. So go to your library and pick up a copy of Artemis Fowl, by Eoin Colfer.
