Rating: Summary: everyone that thinks that harry potter is awful Review: I dedicate this review to the people that think that harry potter is awful, especially to a 12 year old reader that says that the fairies come with wands and stuff, well you are wrong! Maybe if you would've read the book carefully( the harry potter) you would have enjoyed it, instead of thinking i hate fantasy, and i don't like fairies. i keep a record of all the books í've read and until know i am up to 250, and by know the best of all have been the harry potter series. artemis fowl has no comparison with the harry potter books, for example: a 8 year old wants to read a book, he chooses harry potter, he will find mystery, fun, no bad language, and a minimum quantity of violence, which is used to fight evil, now, if he chooses artemis fowl, he will find stealing, much violence, kidnapping, thieves, a meaning that he would do anything to achieve gold, which is greedy, and at last , that the THIEF wins. Which role model do you think will be best for the child? so listen to me, if you are indecise of which book to choose, between artemis fowl and harry potter books, choose harry potter, and trust me you wont regret it. OH one more thing, i had to put 1 star because it was required, but really, it deserves 0.
Rating: Summary: I loved it Review: This book is directed to a young audience, but I think that anyone can enjoy it. It is highly imaginative and the author defines his charecters well. You are engrossed in the book from page one in the escapades of this twelve year old genius. Although it is different from Harry Potter, it is just as good and I would recommened t to anybody.
Rating: Summary: Great Book!! Review: I absolutely loved this book! It's different from Harry Potter but just as good. Yes, I admit I had to look up some new vocabulary that Artemis and the other characters used, but I didn't mind. The book is about this master genius boy who is a criminal but he is also the protaganist (the good guy) in this book. He, like anybody, wants gold. He figures out that fairies, who live underground, have a plethora (a lot) of gold. I won't say anymore because it might give it away, but let's just say he gets caught up in some stuff that he wasn't really expecting. The fairies use magic to try and defeat him. I think the age group for this book is 9-14. The vocabulary is a little difficult and there are a few profanities.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF MY FAVS Review: THIS BOOK IS REALLY KWL WITH ALL THE WEAPONS IN BUTLER'S ARSENAL TO THE HIGH-TECH NUCLEAR POWERED BLASTERS OF TEH L.E.P. AND GREAT BOOK REALLY WORTH READING.
Rating: Summary: Artemis Fowl, Criminal Mastermind at age 12! Review: Artemis Fowl is a young boy who is determined to retrieve the family riches his father squandered during an operation to sell Cola products to Russia. He discovered the People through his many hours on the internet, and has aquired a copy of their lawbook. He begins to wage a war with these people, with help only from his trust butler, Butler, and Butler's sister, Juliet.
Rating: Summary: Ok Review: No I didnt really like the book I mean the story itself is nice. But the words are soo hard to understa,d!!!!
Rating: Summary: A charming fantasy for young and old alike Review: 'Artemis Fowl' shares much in common with Rowling's Harry Potter books. They both take place in a universe much like our own, but with a dash of magic thrown in. Both books are aimed at a younger audience but have hints of darkness in them. In the Harry Potter books, Harry and the gang are on the lookout for evil sorcerors and magical creatures. In '...Fowl' the main character is a deceptive and evil plotter. Hardly a role model. But '..Fowl' is an enjoyable book. I suspect that, like the Harry Potter books, it will coerce youngsters who are non-readers into reading. It has the requisite amounts of fantastic creatures and excitement that should keep readers up well past their bedtimes. However, my praise isn't wholehearted. One of the major plot points of the book is the kidnap of a female police officer. Another significant scene involves flatulence. There's a lot of violence in the book. No characters are killed, but there are several scenes with hitting. Most intriguingly, and in one of my favorite lines, there's a scene where a character says 'Moriarty, Holmes, they both like the same with the flesh scorched off their skulls'. Now I like this kind of humor, but I question whether it's appropriate in a book aimed at children. 'Artemis Fowl' is a charming engaging fantasy that will delight readers and is a relatively quick read (particularly in comparison to the huge Harry Potter tomes). I look forward to the alluded-to sequels.
Rating: Summary: Who Cares? Review: OK I'm an adult, so I accept that I'm not the target audience for this book but I can't imagine anyone being entertained by this load of tosh! The premise is fine - a junior version of Moriarty and his servants engaged in a nefarious plan to defraud the fairy nation of a crock of gold by holding one of their kind to ransom. Problem is the author has created a set of totally unengaging characters who you will struggle to find interesting or have any sympathy with. This means that by the halfway mark, you really don't care what happens. The author has spent a good deal of time thinking through the action and the technology (this is the only part of the book that vaguely works and is why I've given it the 1 star)and I'm sure this will thrill the right type of young audience but older readers will find little in the way of characterisation or plot to keep their attention. Unfunny at best, dull as dishwater at worst, this Artemis is truly more foul than fowl!
Rating: Summary: Blockbuster Action Adventure Review: Enormously entertaining action adventure with all the high tech bells and whistles. This wonderfully inventive tale takes the reader on a pod ride in a thermal flare with a cast of characters that is very hip and very hilarious. While the fantasy is first rate, lying beneath the brilliant banter and battle is the simple story of what children can get up to when left unsupervised. Read and enjoy this book, you won't soon forget it.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Different than Harry Potter and sny other Fantacy ! Review: I Loved this book. I read one of the Harry Potter books and hated it so I can sewe if there are any anti-Harry Potter fans why they might not want to read this book but It is about fairies but you really start to forget that they are faries. When you think of fairies you think oh magic wands and flying wings. I thought that too and I hated fantacy books. But the story is based on an action adventure movie so it is easy to forget about the fairiesand if you changed the fairy to a person instead of Holly(a charector) you could change all of the fairies into real people. If you liked Harry Potter and you think it will be like this you are wrong and I should caution you it really isn't like harry potter even though the only one that I read was the 1'st one so i really don't have much to judge it on. But I think that if you didn't like fantacy books you should deffinitl;y give this one a try because I don't even think it belongs in the fantacy section because it is'nt really like any fantacy book I have ever heard of.
