Summary: One of the best books I've ever read!!
Review: You don't get much better than this!! Artemis Fowl is a job well done by Eoin Colfer and I'm looking forward to another Artemis Fowl (If there will be one)!! It is quite funny and serious at the same time. This book had me hooked from the begining!! An extremely good plot and the characters are great too!! Overall 9 ½ out of 10. A must buy!!!

Summary: teacher has mixed feelings about this book
Review: The summary sounded interesting when I purchased it, but upon reading the story, I was a bit surprised about the violence. I am a 6th grade teacher and I'm not so sure I would read this book aloud to my class. That isn't to say that I wouldn't make the book available to them if they wanted to read it themselves. I'm sure the author could've been less descriptive about the types of weapons and violent acts, but reading some other reviews, kids loved this book. I, personally, found the book an interesting and fun read and I think that the code cracking pat is a great idea for kids to practice their decoding skills. If your child is mature enough, I think this is a good book for them to read.

Summary: NOT FOR SMART PEOPLE
Review: Do not buy this book! ESPECIALLY if you are considering it for children! Its "style" is completely wannabe cinematic, with too much description of guns and tough-guy-shots. If you've ever read a sci-fi story written by an over-enthusiastic fifteen-year-old boy... it was better than Artemis Fowl. Plus, every other sentence starts with "and" or "but", and the faked medieval style combined with the James Bond-esque action sequences is ridiculous.

Oh, and I cracked the code in about 20 seconds, it's a direct orthographical one from the English Alphabet. I mean, come on. You can just correspond the individual symbols to letters on the opposite page... "translation" indeed! The code at the bottom is about a guy who reads the future... in *phlegm*.

Summary: Often lyrical, sometimes dragging, but very ingenious!
Review: Author Eoin Colfer (Benny and Omar) has created the beginning of what's sure to become an epic force of fantasy. From Chapter One I was able to visaulize young Artemis with Colfer's quick prose and brilliant verse, far into Chapter Two I had fallen head over heels with the young anti-hero as he began his greedy quest, and by the very end where a wonderful twisting climax came to light, I was not sure I'd see the crazingly creative characters again... But no fear! A sequel is coming. And I'm sure it will be as bright, imaginative, and whimsical as the first Artemis Fowl. But what (on earth) will it be called?

I recommend Artemis Fowl to the young at heart, the sci-fi wizard, and the older kid; or for anyone wanting to escape the bounderies of the ordinary (Mud, or perhaps, Muggle) world.

Summary: Enter a magical world...
Review: This book was one of the best books I have ever read! It had an EXCELLENT ending, and it was surprising. It was a very imaginative book, and the descriptions of the charecters formed a picture of everything that was happening. It was clever, and the author used an excellent array of words. Overall it was magnificent! I would reccomend this book to anyone who likes fantasy, action, or books like Harry Potter.. the kinds you cannot put down!

Summary: Lots of fun
Review: I loved this book! I'm an adult and I don't have kids, so I can't address whether or not it's child-appropriate, but I thought it was great. It was charming, funny, different, fast-moving.

The fact that the hero was a criminal is what drew me to buy the book...to me, that made it interesting. I couldn't wait to see which side was going to win.

It seems likely that this will be a new series. If so, I look forward to reading the rest of the books. This one was a blast!

Summary: Artemis Fowl Rocks!
Review: I think Artemis Fowl is one of the best books I have ever read in my life, and I have read a ton of books. My favorite character is Butler. He is an awesome bodyguard. It was very cool when he demolished the psycho troll who was terrorizing Fowl Manor.

Once I picked up this book it was almost impossible for me to put it down. I even read it at the beach instead of swimming! I would recommend the book for kids 8 and up. Eoin Colfer has created one of the coolest and deadliest masterminds in storybook history.

Summary: Fantastic Fowl
Review: Truly the best book I have read for entertainment value. It will appeal to adults even more than children because of its subtle writing. Artemis is a very complex little boy who is taking on adult responsibilities and doing very well. He uses his natural intelligence and hard, hard work studying the computer to regain the family fortunes. He wants us to think he is a tough, macho man, but his endearing childishness and true goodness and morality show through many times. He doesn't want to appear a wimp so he tries to disguise his goodness. If readers can't see through this, that's too bad for them. The actual writing is spare and appropriate. There is no horrible overwriting and reapeating and padding like in the last Harry Potter and I wouldn't compare it to that book at all. Read and enjoy for the wit, writing, excitement and excellent characters. This is from a high-school teacher who should know.

Summary: An interesting change from the classic fantasy hero quest
Review: I found this a refreshing change from the usual fantasy hero in science fiction/fantasy. Artemis, the title character of the story, is almost more villain than hero. I found myself rooting for both sides, wanting neither to completely fail at the end of the book. There is not a clear cut good or bad side in the book, taking it away from the classic good versus evil battle. Both Artemis and the People (the fairy folk) have their good and bad qualities.

I found it difficult to keep in mind that Artemis was a boy, though. He acts more like an adult, which is supposedly due to his great intellect. I also found the humor, word usage, and more for older children and up. Some of the ideas, such as comaprisons of bad history in the making to the Spanish-Inquisition or the Hindenburg disaster, will pass over the heads of a younger reader. However, an adult or an older child would probably enjoy, like me, the sarcastic wit. Also, the characters are very memorable, especially Foaly the centaur who is a faery rendition of James Bond's Q.

Overall, I found this a very interesting and enjoyable read.

Summary: Artemis Fowl Rules!
Review: I own Artemis Fowl and it's my favorite book. If you like it too, you should read Love Among The Walnuts. You can get it on Amazon.
